Deerstalker dead.
I came back to DBD after a long break and they needed my deerstalker. Why? This hurts my Oni load out and just makes slugging last long so I can't hook quickly. This is a really rough change does anyone know why and when they did this?

I actually still use deerstalker. I get a lot of value with it. ❤️

I was just thinking about making a deerstalker appreciation post lol. I was away for a bit and didn't realize it got made into a killer Object.
it's been pretty good at finding people trying to go for my Lament Configuration.

It is not better. It is a different perk and kills the quick pick up and hook that Oni used to do. Now I have to slug players out of i can't find them and I don't like that playstyle. I have had to play very toxic today. 8 different games with a bleed out. I really don't like that syste.

oooooo I should try that.

I also learned it works with Vecnas Magic Items! (except for Fly weirdly enough)

First of all i have plenty of game experience dear. I don't need "pointer" videos. I have ear damage and can't hear them crying as easily as other players so I used deer stalker to help make up for my hearing loss

I wouldn't say it's better. All it does is promote going for a random survivor across the map which isn't good for a majority of the killers. You unironically have a more niche perk than old deer stalker.
1 -
So tell me what happens when you run this on the half of the roster that can't do anything with said aura reading? You actively have a perk that could nerf you mid chase by revealing your aura as a survivor having aura reading on the killer is actively more powerful than the killer having aura reading on the survivor especially mid chase.
Like cool you can find someone every 30 seconds but like I said if they're across the map its NOT worth going for them as a majority of killers. Also why do you think promoting slugging is bad? Its quite literally the same as hooking but it takes LONGER to die and you can move around. Always found that double standard weird when both essentially do the same but hooking is a faster more check pointy system to killing a survivor thanks to stages.-1 -
you don't need to chase the person it reveals it can just be useful info.

Info on the opposite side of the map as a low-mid tier killer isn't going to accomplish much unless you so happen to line up the timing within hooking a survivor which at that point… bbq is better. Infectious would be better in some cases even. It's just TOO niche compared to hovering around a slug. when someone else want's to stay nearby. Especially on indoor maps where they can just disappear off to narnia.

So you intentionally misinterpreted my point about aura reading and thought I was saying that certain killers just can't see auras. A majority can't do anything with it because the time investment to walk across the map simply isn't worth it. Of course if you run current Deer Stalker on Blight it CAN be good but never the best choice.
As for object, with both parties seeing their auras it's literally impossible to get mind gamed through tall walls/objects because of that unless you are legit not paying attention which is why I call it a potential nerf, why do you think Original Object of Obsession didn't work inside of terror radius? It's the reason why a lot of aura reading perks that reveal the killer are tied behind conditions like being within X radius of a gen or being forced to crouch or the killer standing around hook. And SWF comms is already calling out where the killer is all the times aura reading or not.
And we just ignoring that certain killers are just built for slugging like Oni, Twins and Singularity? All three of which have decent counterplay with only Singularity being the worst offender, but I rarely see people do the counterplay in general so.
Also the small tid bit that Deer Stalker soft counter Plot Twist but I guess people didn't like that.-2 -
This is because unlike Object of Obsession, Deerstalker has an additional (albeit unmentioned in the game) restriction in that it only applies to auras which have a set time duration (similar to Lethal Pursuer) so it works against Scene Partner aura reading for example but not Kindred.
Applying this to Vecna's magic items, it works against the ones for dispelling sphere, mage hand, and flight of the damned because each of them reveal Vecna's aura for 2 seconds. But the Fly item reveals his aura while flying and not for a set amount of time so it doesn't work with that one.

The goal of auras in this situation isn't to get you into a chase, it's to improve your macro knowledge. It's the same reason that Gearhead is a good perk- it lets you know what generators are being worked on, and where the survivor's attentions are generally directed.
The best use of auras is to get you into a chase, but that doesn't mean it's the only use. Knowing what's going on is also very useful.

Exactly. I use aura add-ons on a lot of my killers, like Dredge's Lavalier Mic and Henry's Black Widow and I don't necessarily pursue whoever shows up, it's just let's me know who is where so i can monitor activites.

Yeah, true but then it becomes a perk that gets less and less value the better you are as a player. Because you know what gens they're most likely working on you wouldn't need a 3 second aura read every 30 seconds. You could run an infinitely better information perk vs the consistent aura reading on a slug. Like I said earlier got turned into a super niche perk.

On average these 3 seconds are so short time window so when you are in chase you have almost no value or doing some animation action like breaking so this perk is kinda meh perk and there are way better options like spyes from shadows is perk that is 100% more valuable in info and works very well compare to dear stalker.
Only good things deer stalker does are showing some auras of survivors that have aura reveal on you but this doesnt work with perks like kindread I believe and many more perks or effects of addons and powers like some vecnas items which makes it more meh and second is finding survivors when you have no clue but counter productive part of this perk is that it shows the least chased survivor which is motly the guy who wasnt been even hooked so no solid preasure point for tied or though games.
There are better options in my oppinion for aura or general info perks than deer stalker.

This is a really rough change does anyone know why and when they did this? Not sure this got answered
The when was 9.2 when there was the attempt at what they called Quality of Life but was a pretty radical game overhaul.
The why - as a guess, a lot of perks were up for changes given how much they were considering overhauling the game. There were a few perks that they seemingly forgot to change back.
That's a guess though, I don't remember them specifically addressing the why with this perk.

Have you seen Franklin's Demise yet. It no longer removes charges from items 😊😊😊

What is that "argument"? If you play a Killer who cannot make use of a Perk, then dont play the Perk on that Killer? You act as if you are forced to run Deerstalker on a Killer who cannot really use it.
2 -
Ok so you just weren't following the argument then. Come back later.
-2 -
No, your "argument" was just extremely bad.

I've mentioned it already, but I've been doing more tests on Cenobite and I'm really liking Deerstalker. I've been finding my chain hunt pressure to be a little more consistent. this killer requires AI level computer processing power I'm glad to have an ok option to help offload some of that mental burden in regards to macro decision making. I say this because Pinhead requires me to know where all 5 actors could be at a given time. it's no Hoarder but it's something. Small example, but I just came out of a match where Deerstalker ratted out every single box grabber which helped me contest every box and I almost had chain hunt the whole match but the survivors resolved one hunt due to my own user error.
This isn't saying much since this perk is outdated, but deerstalker at the bare minimum is a flat out upgrade of Whispers. 1v1 or 2v1 is a flat out death sentence. win more application but still worth mentioning. I purposefully haven't mentioned the aura reflection component, but it is appreciated as an m1 killer.

And you decided that based on what? My points that made logical sense on how compared to its previous iteration it's just worse? Given you popped in and said "just don't run the perk on this killer" makes it very clear you don't understand my issue with it.

The Perk is better than before, even tho I would not say that it is good. If your argument is that a Perk is better when every Killer is using it, then every Perk aside from 4 Slowdown-Perks will ever be worse, since those are basically the only Perks where all Killers get roughly the same kind of value.

Im fine with that. I don't know why it removed charges anyway.

Don't tell anyone gearhead is good. They will give it a unnecessary nerf too
