Why is the DBD community so obsessed with hours and "honor codes"

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share a situation that I think perfectly sums up the toxicity of this community. I’ve been playing DBD since 2018; I have about 2,100 hours on console and I recently moved to PC, where I have a bit over 500 hours. On my Steam bio, I simply wrote that I have previous experience on console—I did this so people wouldn't worry about having a "noob" teammate who doesn't know the basics.

I’m primarily a Survivor player (about 70% of my games), but lately, I’ve been chilling as Killer in the Blood Moon event. I’ve been using low-tier killers or troll builds, not even adapting them for the event mode, and playing without tunneling or being toxic at all.

After some chill matches with Clown and Knight, I switched to Deathslinger—one of my best killers. In the first match, I lost, but I didn't care because I was just playing for the chase. I had 8 hook stages, 0 kills, and I think I missed only one single shot the entire game. I was satisfied because I played well on a huge map, in a mode that is heavily survivor-sided, and with two perks that were basically useless because I hadn't updated my build for the event.

Then came the last match.

I was on Toba Landing (Singularity's map), which is definitely not a great map for Slinger. I won easily with 3 generators left. I played more carefully, hit almost every shot (including some really technical ones), and I specifically avoided tunneling. I spread the hooks to everyone, except for one Dwight who I found out of position, repairing a generator immediately after being unhooked.

In the post-game chat, they started insulting me (I'm pretty sure they were a SWF). This Dwight, who was the first to die, started attacking me based on my Steam bio: "You are so bad! Why do you lie about having 3,000 hours? You are pathetic!"

I told him: "I won easily without even sweating," and listed all the disadvantages I had. His genius response? "Lmao, the fact that you use NOED says it all!"

I asked him: "Let me guess, you're the type of guy who complains about killer builds but then you're a Blight or Nurse main where perks are optional?"His answer: "Yes, I’m a Blight main."

I’m speechless. A Blight main, playing a survivor-sided event mode, complaining about NOED (which didn't even activate since they only finished 2 gens) on a 4.4 killer with zero map control on a bad map. You have to be a special kind of toxic—and honestly, not very bright—to complain after losing that badly.

Look, if you criticize me when I play a killer I'm objectively bad at—like The Artist, I’d be the first to admit I can't use her—that's fine. But when I’m playing one of my mains and hitting every shot... just accept the loss.

Please, learn to enjoy the game and stop being so toxic. It’s exhausting.

I even had someone leave a comment saying: "I wouldn't be so proud of having 2,000 hours if I were you, playing like that."

It's honestly hilarious. I'm just saying "Hey, I'm not new," not claiming to be a god at the game. It's only 2,000 hours, not 10,000! I don't know why people perceive it as me being "proud" or "arrogant."

Its because ego and entitlement has spiraled out of control, and the devs have not done a thing to get the problem people under control.

Generally speaking, anyone going to leave rude comments on a steam account has either been humbled by you, or has such a fragile ego that they need to assert dominance on you. Quite frankly I just delete comments like these and move on.

People are just mad when they lose. That's it.
