I somewhat understand the tunneling now
I havent played killer for years, but i was doing ok when i did.
I decided to try again tonight, and there are just pallets everywhere, so survivors just ran from pallet to pallet to pallet.
i did not tunnel, but if i wanted to kill people off, i might have needed to tunnel.

the pallets are worse now than before. They put too many in but "reverted". Now it's alot of medium rock/pallet/small rock. So overall you have easier to deal with pallets. From what I have seen.

the lower tier killer you play the more you need to tunnel if survivors are being efficient. i see tier lists less as how strong the killer is and more how "scummy" you have to play to beat competent players. i use scummy how a survivor main would use it. there's nothing actually wrong with tunneling or camping but you get what i mean.

I mean, you can't not play the role for years and expect to instantly do well. That's not the game's fault.

Tunneling is neither good nor bad—it’s a technique, a tool 😊
What makes the difference between a “understandable” case and a “not cool” one is the timing.
Sometimes survivors apply a lot of pressure in a match, and the killer realizes that between, say, a P2 survivor and a P0 survivor, the best way to apply pressure in return is to sacrifice the P2 😨
Especially if the killer has played very fairly throughout the match, tunneling then simply becomes a strategic choice.
If a killer focuses a survivor right from the start for no reason, then yes, it’s totally understandable that it feels unfair from the survivor’s perspective 😣
Of course, personally, if a survivor starts bodyblocking instead of hiding right after being unhooked, or gets greedy with a flashlight while injured… basically, if they play like an idiot… then no more mercy. They want my attention, they’ll get it, no problem. Sometimes with a little bonus slug to waste a minute and counter a potential Decisive Strike. I’m not about to be taken for a fool 😁

that was not what i said tho, but the maps have so many pallets now, swamp ect. have much more pallets than when i was a killer
-5 -
The Pallets are a lot more unsafe tho. You cannot just go after the pure numbers. When you had 3 Jungle Gyms back then (very safe Tiles, where the Killer needs to kick the Pallet), you might now have 4-5 weak Pallets, which dont require immediate kicking.
6 -
that was not what i experienced
-3 -
The pallets are mostly trash. A pallet between two rocks isn't even worth talking about.
3 -
Such pallets shouldn't be greeded but instead be pre-dropped so they create a loop that many killers can lose time on dealing with.
Tunneling becomes a mandatory if survivors can maintain a ratio of 1 for 1 and killer is still ''spreading hooks''. Once you see 2 generators left and only 3 hooks done on different survivors, that is the moment where there are two options - eliminate someone asap or lose. Some people are too entitled to understand that not every killer can afford being ''kind'' in such situations, hence why tunneling is required if one side does wish to win and not just ''entertain'' another.
7 -
but it gives survivors enough time to run for the next pallet
1 -
Where did I say anything about tunneling? But thank you for the lesson I've actually never played this game before.

so I play mostly survivor and when I play killer it’s like a lightbulb goes off. It seems to me the devs have actually built the game around tunneling and slugging. This only works when you have a synergy amongst survivors. Mostly SWFs. Now that being said soloq is all but diminished. You can instantly tell if a team is working together or not. Being a killer especially on console (there is is at least a 5 second delay too) it seems necessary to tunnel if you want to play hard. Now if you want to learn it’s best to take the loss and learn to chase and mind game. If you don’t tunnel gens tend to fly. Another problem is streamers. All these players think these streamers when every game but they don’t show the loses and that is a problem. They make mistakes too and it should be known. Also lot of players I encounter on soloq are those who just want to clear the tomb and basically screw around. Also the amount of subtle cheaters is wild and BHVR needs to actually put an effort to do something about it. I had at least three out of the four matches with the flash in there.
The game is about chasing, hide and seek. Now it’s about tunneling and slugging and that doesn’t really cater well to those who want to engage.

OP had the Borgos killer experience post pallet density.

I understand why killers DC
Why should you stay in a match where the survivors are doing everything to make your life as miserable as possible for 15minutes?
-5 -
You'd be surprised how many people with lot's of hours of play time haven't actually played this game.
-5 -
I KNEW IT

If you wouldnt have played killers for years, you would have gotten survivors that hardly even know how to loop whatever many pallets there are. Your story doesnt really work. Nobody needs tunneling at all. Killers just love to make this a self-fullfilling prophecy for them.
-1 -
I approach it from a purely hypothetical stance. It's a social experiment.
True my thousands of hours have just been sitting in the lobby changing my characters' cosmetics.
4 -
Its fact that this role is nowdays harder way more than it was years ago.
-4 -
Yeah its really hard to decide between shirtless David or anniversary suit.
4 -
Pallets being unsafe doesn't matter when there are 50 of the ######### things on maps, a pallet being unsafe only matters if you loop them and survivors have no need to loop pallets anymore because there is a pallet every god damn 5 meters from each other.
-1 -
I've been trying to decide for years now. One day I'll commit and try the game out.
4 -
For the first 5 - 10 matches, maybe. After that, things do change.
In case you don't know, the so-called MMR low cap still exists so no matter if you come after a year or a decade, if you have surpassed the cap, the game will still ''know'' that you are experienced player, just a bit rusty. It will conveniently ''feed'' you some beginners or other rusty players who are below your cap so you can ''warm up'' a bit, then you'll be thrown into the battlefield and fight like every game is your last.

I played some more games yesterday, and i won with no issues. So im starting to think that i ran into smurfs or cheaters.
-1 -
Can happen I got last night ddosed after long time by dwight from epicgames account because he didnt liked how I played so its possible to get cheaters often.
-2 -
Tunneling is a valid stragety btw, your doing your job faster. You dont own the survivors to have fun, but camping for example is boring for both sides but tunneling is fun for both in a way. Theres no such thing as tunneling and theres no such thing as Gen rush
-5 -
right its much harder now with hooks respawning with zero fear of creating a hook deadzone, better hook spawns, maps being reduced in size, faster animations, no true infinites like back in the day, no insta brand new parts, circle of healing being killed etc.
Despite what some people think killer is not the hardest it’s ever been, it’s just not as easy as it has been since post weskers release.
4 -
This heavily depends on the killer.

Hooks did respawn with perk later like second year of the game existance and tunneling had almost no counter or face camping plus less perks to counter this so no hooks was more doable than nowdays some perk combos and people werent that good.
Nowdays hook spawns are still bad especialy in bloodmoon event where blood pumps spawn in places of hooks but even in regular mode some places are 40 meters areas with no hook or the hook is in thatradius but its on second floor. Gens are dopne faster even when there are perks to slow them down more tna before and they take 30 seconds more than in first version of game or year of the game, people are more skilled and number of pallets isnt much smaller than back than and now they are even closer near each other so yes game for the killer is harder than in 2017 where survivors had op stuf but killers had it too like facecamping, no anticamp meter or any antitunnel protection and perks killers had perks too like og ruin, og pop or og dying light where one tunnel gave survivors 25% slowdown so it was easier back then.

hooks didn’t respawn if you sacrificed a survivor on one, back then it was easy to create an entire hook deadzones. 1hook in one section of the map and survivors would know that and take advantage. Remember original rpd and boilover? Hooks now respawn after sacrificing survivors.
Old deadhard
Old ds
Old infinite loops which most killers couldn’t counter
Old circle of healing
Faster gens times
Bigger maps
Slower animations/ longer cooldowns
Spinechill/resi vault speeds
Killer used to be way harder, any killer main from the pre wesker era knows that despite where the game sits right now balance wise killer is still easier than back then.
8 -
so u havent played killer for years and u expect to stomp people? hone ur skills and u will be fine.
6 -
Probably. I am just referring to the over abundance of pallets where one side is so small that its faster to just walk around. There are too many of those.

ooks didn’t respawn if you sacrificed a survivor on one, back then it was easy to create an entire hook deadzones. 1hook in one section of the map and survivors would know that and take advantage. Remember original rpd and boilover? Hooks now respawn after sacrificing survivors.Slugging was way stronger and when pig came they respawned and there was perk for that hang mans so no it wasnt that dark as today where you can more hook but you actualy loose faster.
Old deadhardOld dead hard was great but even with it you could tunnel or slug better so killer had more tools how to deal with it adn many people were bad even with og dead hard than they are now with current one which has stronger effect only thing that makes it worse is that you get it only two times.
Old dsTrue but you could dribble the survivor and make it to the hook which nowdays you cant and sabbo or ds are way more unconterable than back then.
Old infinite loops which most killers couldn’t counterThis is true but few killers could break them and when banboozle came many infinites were playable plus haste and window block.
Old circle of healingThis was truly more powerfull version thing than old sefl care but again I believe antitunnel protection wasnt a thing or it was less than 10 seconds and no haste so you could focus on one and win which isnt so easy nowdays.
Faster gens timesThey were faster but somehow games were longer and it wasnt so harsh as they are nowdays done people didmore than gens chases were wanted not to sit and pop gens asap as nowdays.
Bigger mapsTrue but nowdays maps are shorter (some) and pallets are shrinked to close to each other so it isnt that one sided change as you claim here.
Slower animations/ longer cooldownsThey were but it still was very playable with them and perks like brutal were actualy stronger than today in %.
Spinechill/resi vault speedsAnd nowdays you have finnes which isnt much weaker than this combo so not much changed only theres cooldown now for it bu its stronger.
Killer used to be way harder, any killer main from the pre wesker era knows that despite where the game sits right now balance wise killer is still easier than back then.I was killer since nurse came and I dont remember so hard games on average as nowdays atleast gens werent done so fast so you had some leverage and people more facecamped than tunneled so this made huge part too if you played pro efficient as nowdays comp killer with hard tunnel and slug you would have way easier especialy tunnel because there wasnt such thing as hook trade if killer didnt allow it it was just unhook in his face without borrowed time (that perk since bill came was must) it was another hook for unhooked guy and even borrowed time could be waited out it took bit longer but no bonus haste on other hand.
Everything had cons and pros but there wasnt any mmr and people were less skilled which made that mess bareable way more than todays meta rush to win.
I was killer in hardest years like 2017-2020 so dont tell me how bad some things were but nowdays its actualy harder due to not so loose match making and if I knew things I know today like some tricks and how to win efficiently with tunnel I would have way better results back than than today even with killer like hagerina or trapper whoc is totaly almost unplayable today without full meta build with good map and basement hooks.

only map i can say from experience is borgo ( knights map ) if you are a killer with jo anti loop say goodbye because that map has a bazillion pallets one next to another . I swear that map has about 25 pallets and i'm not kidding.

Hot take but I agree with the killer main in me will never forget the horror of old dead hard and infinite old haddon field windows

Pallet Density is back?

Safe ones the long walls where survivor can see you whole character and react plus the edges are crippled with invisiable trextures so hugging this as killer is nightmare too you get stuck and you arent even touching the wall.
But good for stealth killers kinda due to dark mist and hard for for range ones.
0 -
He can kinda, if he left before mmr was a thing than he will stomp hard.
I did and as mayers prereworked one with no addons and perks and the less experienced survivors running around like headless chickens without clue what to due because of panic attack when they are in killers presence was a thing but it faded in few tens of games where my mmr settled.
Less experienced survivors can be stomped but the ones with some experience cant unless you were top player when you left and remember quick.

that's but god dam Gideon meat plant need this sooo much play one yesterday that map particularly is so bad lmfao
0 -
"Need"? How is tunneling a "need"? Somehow many killers play the game fair and square. They still win, sometimes they don't. The fact that winning is a "need" is a much bigger problem.
0 -
I am a survivor main, obviously by my posts, but it was too much. Even Gideon, I agree, had too much. But as always, its either go 100% or -100% with design decisions. NO ONE is able to just tweak anything. Both sides see this.
