Slaying DBD's biggest hindrance: Disconnects
-Introduction
-Current Ban System: How it works
-Current Ban System: Its flaws
-Solution: New Ban System
If you want a TL;DR, please skip the introduction, current ban system: how it works, and current ban system: its flaws.
Disconnects are terrible, it ruins everyone's fun while giving the finger to everyone else. It's getting to a point where disconnects are getting out of hand, so much that survivors disconnect on their first down and killers are rage quitting whenever they see a particular map. This is ridiculous, it's time that we, the community, end this epidemic.
The current system automatically flags certain fog travelers who disconnect more than X% of their games. However, let's assume Jimmy (a random person I made up) played 1000 games in his Dead by Daylight lifespan and the disconnect threshold is 10%, he'll have to disconnect 100 times within those 1000 games to receive a ban. Ban severity is dependent on the escalation, this will be covered later.
This is very bad because he still screwed over 400 other fog travelers, assuming no one disconnected before he disconnected. Also, since the system doesn't immediately ban you whenever you reach that 10% threshold, Jimmy could've disconnected way above that threshold. I know the system does that so it cannot be predicted or abused but it's allowing more disconnects because of that.
I'm not done, it gets worse because of this:
Oh yes, if Jimmy is on his first escalation then he'll get a temporary ban and can comeback later to rinse and repeat the process until he's permanently banned.
Remember, that's just ONE person and now add in everyone else with their different disconnect numbers.
A solution will be to remove the ban system altogether (bare with me) and replace it with a BETTER BAN SYSTEM
1 disconnect: No Punishment
2 disconnects: 15 minute queue penalty and your next game will give you 50% less BP.
3 disconnects: 30 minute queue penalty and your next 2 games will give you 50% less BP.
4 disconnects: 1 hour queue penalty and your next 3 games will give you 50% less BP.
5 disconnects: 2 hour queue penalty, your next 4 games will give you 50% less BP, and will receive a warning that anymore disconnects will result in disciplinary action.
6 disconnects: BAN
At the end of every week, your disconnects will reset and you'll start back at 0 disconnects.
Side Note: These values are just place holders, if they're too high or low then they can be changed to best suit the game. Also, disconnects due to bugs or crashes will not count as a disconnect since it was the games fault, not you.

I definitely like that idea of getting 50% less BP if you do DC, because honestly we pretty much just play for that these days.

B-but then if I get downed I CANT DC?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? THIS IS SIMPLY ABSURD!

Do you think my current values are fine or do you think there should be more disconnects before the ban?
I was also thinking about doing a shard penalty but I think it was too punishing. Wait, wouldn't a XP penalty work since you're getting the same amount of shards but at a slower rate?

I personally would like to see the bugs/issues ironed out of the game especially basement stair bodyblocking, 1,2,3 man games etc etc before a ban system is put in place.
Just forward thinking in case a toxic player wants to ruin your next queue by bodyblocking. Or you get a slew of buggy matches/infinite loading screens.

Great point, you could report the killer for holding the game as hostage and the ACMs could review your case. If your report is valid, they will reduce your DC count and provide you with 200,000 BP as compensation for your BP penalty. If you're banned, they will remove the ban and provide you with even more compensation.

You always have a good ideas as always 😍

@Nickenzie Unfortunately, I have to vote against this as long as we're operating on a peer-to-peer system, and also as long as this game is so damned bug ridden.
If Behavior could actually manage to iron out even half of the bugs, and if their dedicated servers and netcode don't turn out to be hot garbage, then I would agree with such DC ban changes.
As far as my dedicated server requirement above, having dedicated servers on its own isn't good enough. They need to be stable servers with good netcode, or it amounts to nothing. And trust me, I have played in enough online games that used dedicated servers that were unstable and basically garbage. Paladins from Hi-Rez comes to mind, as does Apex Legends from Respawn, just for two quick examples.
And given Behavior's track record so far, I'm not yet ready to place bets on the quality of their upcoming dedicate servers, and I'm especially not yet ready to place bets on the quality of their netcode.

This has been suggested 100 times in past 30 days. They already stated that no new system will be added regarding d/c until after dedicated servers.

Can you link me all 100 threads? I'm curious since I'll like to improve my idea while giving them credit, ya know?
Just kidding but ideally they can implement this until after dedicated servers are released and when they fix major bugs.

Someone has a crush here :))))

I'll do the job for @ShirtlessDwight :
Here is a thread where @Peanits stated the devs would like to implement such a feature once dedicated servers are live

I mean I like the idea and all, but the core problem is that if people can't DC and they really want to, they will just run to the killer, get hooked and suicide on their first hook instead.
And considering this is sometimes an actual tactically sound choice (to give someone else a shot at the hatch for example) it can't really be punished in any way I can think of.

@Nickenzie In theory, they could do it now. They know who dc's how often. But I can understand that they don't want to do the programming for the current system and another programming for dedicated servers.

@Jigmac Hook suicides will probably always be a thing. At least the killers get their BBQ stack and have to spend time on hooking the surv.

@sKetch If a player dc's, the other players should get a compensation. But that doesn't mean that those who abuse dc's shouldn't get punished.
You don't follow the rules, you get punished. It's like that everywhere because that is what works.

Good question, if I see a survivor AFK or run to the killer and kill themselves then I'll report the survivor for griefing since he or she was purposefully sabotaging my game. Even if I'm not sure, I'll still report the survivor because if other survivors reported him or her, the ACMs will take care of the griefer.

I feel like if a survivor DCs, all remaining players including the killer will gain 5,000 post-trial bloodpoints and the remaining survivors will get a 50% action speed bonus (repair, heal, cleanse). If the killer DCs, all survivors will get 10,000 post-trial bloodpoints and will safety pip if they haven't already.
Side Note: A survivor DC will award a stack of WGLF and BBQ to everyone.

@sKetch You have to punish players who don't follow the rules. Would you not punish cheaters and lag switchers as well?

I think it could be reduced a lot if devs eliminate the disconnect button.

@Detective_Jonathan Except they won't. CM's already stated that nothing more is being done about DCs, and no changes to the current threshold system, until after the dedicated servers go live.
So, we still have months of this bullshit yet to deal with, because aren't dedicated servers slated for late summer? That typically means an August or September time frame, unless they are redefining what late summer means into something earlier.

Not a bad idea, i like this, but of course BHVR and its mods probably don't even read these things, so this will probably get pushed back to somewhere else.
