Is there a real reason why there is still so much grind in this game?

There are so many perks for both survivor and killer, yet nothing meaningful has really been done about the grind. I understand that they probably cannot remove perk tiers completely because the game may not work properly without them, but they could still make changes to reduce the grind.

For example:

  1. When you prestige a character once, all of that character’s perks should be unlocked at Tier 3 for every other character.
  2. All offerings should have their personal, survivor-only, or killer-only restrictions removed where possible.
  3. The Bloodpoint cap in a match should either be removed or changed. At the very least, once you reach the cap, you should still gain Bloodpoints, but maybe at a reduced rate, such as 25% of their normal value.

I think these changes would help new and returning players catch up with everyone else. It would also make the game feel less punishing for people who want to try different characters, builds, or playstyles.

What do you think?

Its a ten year old game so it has a dated system personally I am unable to comment on the actual grind for stuff as I have way too many hours so I don't know how it feels to be a new player

I mean it is a grind, but it absolutely pales in comparison to how bad it used to be (it was torturous). I feel like my perception of it is colored by that, and the fact that I already have everything else unlocked by the time something new comes out.

But for a new player coming in, the magnitude of it has to be completely overwhelming.

With the sheer volume of perks in the game now, perk tiers should absolutely be done away with, but people have been advocating that for years, and I doubt we'll see it happen. The game has long outgrown that mechanic, and the obstinance of the devs in making that obvious change is kind of baffling.

I don't really feel the BP cap is an issue any more, since they're easy to spend and you can go way over the cap when you get bonus BP and such. Back in the day when the cap was one million and you'd spend a third of your in-game time on the blood web it was much more of an issue.

But it also seems like in a lot of the events the BP/shard payouts and awards have gotten stingier, which is also pretty annoying.

Sooner or later they have to address this.

I think the grind will detract more and more new players who try this game when they realize how much you need to play to unlock everything now.

And as you can´t purchase BP with money i don´t really see their problem. Old players have everything - the only ones you punish are new players.

The perks from the originals Survs should be preunlocked and the general BP gains doubled or tripled imo.

Grind is still immense even with this.

I know this might sound a bit negative or harsh, but I have quite a few hours in DBD, and I think part of the problem is that people see all the survivors, killers, perks, and content and immediately think, "Wow, that's way too much."

Sometimes it feels like people don't want to spend 30 minutes looking up a beginner guide or checking which builds are commonly used. As a new or relatively new player, the best thing you can do is identify the perks you want, figure out which survivors or killers unlock them, and focus on those first.

You get 250,000 free Bloodpoints every week, which is roughly enough for a free Prestige every month on a character of your choice. On top of that, you earn Bloodpoints just by playing and ranking up. There are frequent events with double Bloodpoints, and Blood Moon even gives up to 5x rewards. Then you have 22 Tomes packed with challenges that reward millions of Bloodpoints in total just for playing the game.

The Anniversary event is also right around the corner, so it's a great time to invest Bloodpoints into your favorite characters when the anniversary starts and stock up on those delicious cakes that give everyone an extra 110% Bloodpoints.

And honestly, what are you going to do when everything is unlocked? The game can get pretty stale once you've obtained everything. Aside from chasing P100, there isn't much left to work toward. And is P100 really worth rushing for?

Just enjoy the grind. Focus on unlocking what you need, and the Bloodpoints will come naturally over time.

As someone who has unlocked everything and basically has no use for BP any more…

I miss the grind. I'm glad they give you stuff to unlock in these LTEs because the game would be (even more) boring without them.

I don't think perks should be gated behind it (and/or Tiers should go away obviously) but having something to unlock is part of what drives me to play at all.

    But maybe that's just me

I feel like the grind is fine. One prestige is achieved fast and thats all you need to unlook the perks of a character for eveyone else.

    Iridescent Shards are another story...

The thing is, there really isn't that much of a grind anymore, at least when it comes to BP/unlocking perks. Unlocking characters can be very grindy, but that's another conversation.

I think a big problem is that people don't focus on how much time/grind one prestige takes, which is the important metric, and instead zoom all the way out to how long it takes to get everything unlocked on every character. That's already a longterm grind, and be honest with yourself- you're never using half of those perks. I don't use half of those perks, and I'm a noted perk defender who likes using unpopular or off meta things.

I have to imagine most people don't even own every character. Again, I didn't for a long time and only purchased the survivors in particular that I was missing because I got a chunk of auric cells and figured I might as well.

You can get one prestige done in about four to five games in my experience, and that's assuming you're just going based off a BP offering, if you've got quests and the like to do it's even quicker. That means the pace of unlocking things in general is quite high, and the pace of unlocking the specific things you actually want is even higher.

It's a mistake to invoke new players here especially, new players definitely don't have every character or care about getting to the end point of everything being unlocked ASAP. I remember my brother getting into DBD around Springtrap's release and him being generally baffled people think this game has a grind problem because he was unlocking things very quickly.

TL;DR, getting everything unlocked is a grind, but that's a very specific goal that any given player might not even care about achieving. The actual unlock-to-unlock grind is very forgiving, especially compared to how it used to be.
