Better visuals need to come with better optimization / more user graphic settings.
Dbd already not as well optimized compared to other games of its quality and lacks user settings compared to other games, worried looking and the visual changes it would tank my frames with the current optimization without having proper access to setting adjustments to gain frames back.
Just a PSA to not bone low end pc users ❤️

The texture and animation updates looks amazing though

New changes are probably gonna make console lag 10x worse than it already is

Yeah but lower end systems need to be considered.
more advanced graphic settings would help with that as currently the graphic settings we get in game are so basic.
That way lower end users have more options to turn things down.0 -
I play DBD on a potato PC (a super old office PC with a low end graphics card from a decade ago). But even on such ancient hardware the game as it is currently runs just fine.
I personally don't care for fancy looking models or animations because DBD is not that kind of game to me, though I do understand that the game has to eventually move with the times to stay relevant and to attract new players. But there's no way in the Entity's realm that any of those gorgeous looking weather effects are going to run on my crappy PC or my OG Switch. Is this a sign that the end of DBD on Switch is maybe only a year or two in the future (I assume a Switch 2 version that can do all that jazz is in the works)?

I'm curious how the switch will handle it tbh 😂

Of course, I never said they shouldn't consider lower end systems, as well as consoles.
It LOOKS pretty, but they really need to prioritize optimizations, especially when we consider how demanding UE5 is to run3 -
Same here i get consistent 120 on low, some updates cause fps to chug but tends to rebound. I say its more poorly optimized Just compared to how well other games can be optimized I have played. (some updates had fps issues but where fix fairly quickly eg rework Freddy dream world)
worry these changes will tank FPS signifgently , and with current settings we get in the game no way to try to improve FPS leading to no good way to play the game anymore for me. 🙁0 -
Any major graphical overhaul to DbD NEEDS to come with the ability to individually toggle the quality of different elements: shadows, global illumination, effects, post processing, etc. It's the only way to improve the visual fidelity of the game without alienating large swathes of players on low end or previous gen hardware.
Games like the Outlast Trials are able to provide modern visuals while still running well thanks to their optimisation and scalability — DbD should be able to aswell.
One of the biggest — and most overlooked — contributors to DbD's success is its relatively low hardware requirements, and I really hope they recognise that with the upcoming visual updates. What they previewed looks incredible, don't get me wrong. But if the average DbD player cannot run it, then what is the point? I'm hoping with how long they'll be working on it, they'll be able to strike a good balance between visuals and performance.

Oh yeah I def think it looks good too, why I worry about performance 😂

inb4 "don't worry guys, you can enable MFG to get 60fps…"
I'm curious how they will get this running on older hardware. Unless they plan on simply sunsetting the old gen console versions.

Yeah outlast trails looks amazing and runs amazing on my pc. great game for low end pcs that still looks good.

I'm curious how they will get this running on older hardware.
If the previews are an accurate reflection of what the game will look like, I don't think it's possible.
They'd either have to support 2 versions of the game — akin to how mobile DbD and the core DbD used to work — or they'd have to cease support for old consoles and hardware entirely.

Dunno about the animations, that Kate closeup was not the greatest, I won't lie. Original animation is more basic but also more natural and smooth. The new faces also look more bland. Survivors keep losing their respective charm and identity after every of those facelift waves.

Im on PS5 and I never lag.

I'm honestly happy just chugging along at 60fps on the lowest settings (anything more than that and I get stuttering). I know I'm right at the edge of what is acceptable performance wise but then I play mostly older games and indie titles, so I don't need the latest and greatest. That's what DBD is to me, it's a slightly janky indie title at heart that became popular because of its unique game play and because it runs on pretty much everything.
If they go too far too quickly upgrading the graphics, they risk losing some of their player base. At least for a little while, anyway. At current prices, I'd need to sell a kidney to buy a decent gaming PC these days.

I understand that many people play on older Xbox One, PS4, or PCs, but it's necessary to evolve, guys. The game is 10 years old and can't stay stuck in time if it wants to continue expanding into the present day. Nowadays, graphics and physics are extremely important to attract attention. It's necessary to move forward.

I'm on Xbox series S and every couple of days I will experience major rubber banding when my internet is fine. I've heard it affects other people.

Could be an Xbox issue I guess then. I am thankful I don't have this issue on PS5. None of my friends that I play with do either. (For now)

Yes exactly, this upcoming graphics update has me very worried it might kill the game for me as updating my PC is just not something I can afford anytime soon.

Even capped at 60fps it sounds like my PS5 is taking off for flight when I play this game. My Steam Deck has to be at both 60fps and quality set to low just to not crash. This update looks great and all but if they couldn't even give 120fps to consoles how is this going to go?

Not just low end hardware users but also people who simply don't care about visual fluff and just want a game with as much visual clarity as possible. Most especially for a multiplayer game.
