Perks that have been nerfed to the ground
This is a post where ppl can honor their old favorite perks (or atleast show how some perks were once good but nerfed so much they are not seen much anymore).
Controversial but I'd say PWYF being nerfed from 5/6/7 to 3/4/5 haste is overkill for the nerf

PWYF is still an amazing perk
Aside from that old STBFL was super broken and fun to use especially on my favorite killers at the time. (Demo and PP Head)

dead hard for distance

Distortion. That was the final death blow for stealth. BHVR trying to force the chase meta is honestly one of the worst things to happen to the game.

I miss 150% WGLF.
you know what I despise most as killer? uninteractive games where people refuse to engage with the killer and pre run the whole game, protecting themselves with comms/auras, and 2 layers of Exhaustion(exhaustion+ Finesse) they'll camp comp corners and unplayable tiles until they get the all clear
this is so utterly boring and is sadly my common experience. if you play to this level you have to be a ruthless jerk who ruins peoples day in order to have a chance for a 2k. at this level , killers like Pinhead are actually terrible, useless killers.
but there was a brief period where WGLF was overbuffed and suddenly survivors started feeling invincible and started disrespecting me by making bold moves in front of my face. and you know what, I miss it. Interactions are moments that could cause mistakes. That, and these matches proves bloody with lots of BP going around. Everyone wins, I think. it was genuinely fun to run as survivor, too.
I don't ask for much as killer I just wanna stab everybody a couple times, chase everybody once etc. if a match vibe is good I don't care if I let everyone go or they all escape.

though not a perk - map offerings were ofc heavily nerfed. This makes me both happy and sad, I mean yeah it sucked a TON for hill billy players that would get sent to an indoor map every single game, but also it sucked for survivors who would get stuck on the most killer-sided maps in the game

I miss OG Call of Brine so much. Such a shame that it was caught during the kick-meta all because of Eruption
3 -
wasnt there a COB meta once>
-2 -
Dead Hard that works on anything short of perfect ping.
7 -
so my 568 ping doesnt work?

COB got gutted with limited gen kicks even if its at the previous value it will no longer be as strong as it used to
4 -
Ahhh i see ok

Now that diminishing returns are a thing they really should go through and buff some of those haste perks again.
5 -
oh for sure

Obviously its rework was super unhealthy for the game, but it's funny that Fast Track might be worse now than it was originally.
Like it might be better in super ideal conditions, but otherwise I'd rather take 27 passive charges over 5 permanent ones per unhook I do. Even with a build for it, getting more than 3 or 4 unhooks seems unrealistic in solo queue.

not exactly a perk but i really miss pre 9.3.0 syringes. i loved the little mini game during the chase where both killer and survivor had to lock-in during that 24 second time period to either prevent the syringe or pulling off the syringe. nowadays it’s just very dull to use. like “wow i stood still and immediately got my SB back so now i can hold w to the next filler” is nowhere near as fun and enjoying as the old heal-over-time syringe.
for an actual perk, i’d have to say spine chill. that perk was amazing for all skill levels. it helped newer and intermediate players be aware of a killer approaching them while also giving the more experienced players a nice vault speed in chase. the perk has been dead since that rework 4 years ago and it’s sad that it doesn’t seem like the devs are planning to bring it back into the light anytime soon.

Hex Undying

I was to mention Spine Chill as well.
A perk that was frequently used back in the old days of DBD, that got absolutely destroyed by 6.1.0, and nerfed into non-existense.
Another good contender is Boon: Circle of Healing. Though it still sees use to this day, the removal of self-healing really gutted this perk into irrelevance.2 -
Yep and I miss it dearly. Was one of the few reasons that I was able to enjoy killer back then
1 -
Monitor and Abuse
This one got triple nerfed, first by the change from static meters to percentages, which only benefits the select few 40 meter TR killers (and would you look at that, all A+ tiers), then by reducing the TR increase (even though it also was useful), and finishing it off with diminishing returns, so there is no chance to make it better if any new perks like it release.
7 -
i still love it lol

Sloppy butcher was once my go to perk for every hit and run killer. The timer made it pointless
6 -
I think Spine Chill had the biggest downfall of all the perks.
6 -
- WGLF because they removed what made it the most healthy and enticing.
- Calm Spirit because it was harmless and now has an unnecessary penalty to "balance" an unnecessary buff.
- Distortion because you will never convince it was nerfed because of Survivors running it.
- Wake Up for the same reason.
- Blast Mine because there was nothing wrong with it. It isn't gutted, but the perk used to be a lot more fun pre-Wire Tap.
3 -
Distortion
A Perk nerfed because of "rat behavior", except that this was not really an issue with Distortion. Rat behavior is rare and even without Distortion it happens, most likely even worse. The real reason was that Killers did not find Survivors, even tho I really question how Killers manage to do it then when they dont run any Aura Perks at all…. The Perk was not a problem to begin with and became useless.
Calm Spirit
Not sure if that counts, since Calm Spirit was always a bad Perk. But for some reason they decided to buff it and thought that this buff of opening chests and cleansing Totems while being silent would justify its nerf. Pre-"Buff" Calm Spirit was better than the current version. IMO if they REALLY want to keep the action speed penalty, it should only apply inside the Killers Terror Radius and you just dont have the silent effect when outside of the TR (because there would be no need to be more quiet if the Killer is far away). Would also be a neat little Buff for Stealth Killers.
(At least they corrected their error of "buffing" a Perk with Pharmacy…)
Boon: Circle of Healing
I guess I will farm a few Downvotes with that one, but the Perk is just way too bad now. And with that, all Boon-Perks are way too bad. Circle of Healing was perfect in the version right before the current one. Increasing Heal Speeds by 50% and allowing to heal yourself with Self Care-Speed. This made the Perk more useful while still having the time investment to not make it too strong. The current version just has too big of a time investment (setting up the Boon AND going into the Boon Area to heal). If you want to heal quickly, just equip WWM or Botany Knowledge.
Balanced Landing
Probably not "nerfed to the ground", but IMO made so worse that it is just not worth running aside from personal preference. I cannot understand why an Exhaustion Perk which is only useable in very specific locations, sometimes not useable due to Map RNG AND on some maps not useable at all because they dont spawn any structures to use it on should be so weak. It should either get its Stagger Reduction back or an increase in Haste, because a Perk like Lithe or Sprint Burst have the same Haste values while being able to be used everywhere.
And the worst part is that Balanced Landing was only nerfed because of Haddonfield back then which then was still not enjoyable to play for Killer. The BL Nerf was just laziness, the Perk can get its Stagger Reduction back with minimal changes to the Maps.
Monitor & Abuse
Simply because the change from flat values to percent completely missed the point of M&A. M&A was used and good on Killers with low Terror Radius to make it even lower. Meanwhile, it was bad on Killers with big Terror Radius, since it would not really help them that much. The change to percentage made it way less useful for Killers which actually want to use M&A and still irrelevant for Killers who dont care about the Perk.
Reassurance
Did not make it out of PTB due to concerns because of Killer Mains for Survivors (and TOTALLY NOT because it would have made camping extremely useless against someone with Reassurance /s). PTB-Reassurance would only have one usecase, but it would basically eliminate camping so that the Killer would need to go after other Survivors instead of (proxy)camping. Being a one time use per Hook Stage is just not enough.
An obvious answer would be Mettle of Man, but I wont include that since it was a pure cashgrab perk to begin with.

I miss old distortion.
It probably was a little too strong before. Dropping the number of tokens was fine. But the recharging only by being in chase has gutted it.
4 -
The sad thing is that it made it completely unuseable for people who just dont enjoy chases or are not good at them. And I dont think this should be an issue, since you can be stealthy and still be productive. But offering another way of playing the game instead of just becoming a looping god was great.
But having to become good at chases to earn Tokens for a Perk which lets you avoid chases is just very strange design.
4 -
That's ultimately the issue. These days you have to be good at everything or else you fail. And even then it's no guarantee.
4 -
How do you figure that?
COB specifically requires a gen to be regressing for an extended period of time to gain value. You're not burning through the gen kick limit if you're getting COB value.
0 -
Yeah it is very backwards. I mean I'm not all for hiding all game and doing nothing. But stealth is a very valid playstyle, especially for newer players. A new player who can stealth avoid the killer and work gens isuchore useful than a new player who gets caught goes down quick and then gets hard tunneled put because they are the easy target
6 -
CoH I actually think was fine in it's last iteration before what we have now, setting up a boon + running to boon + 50% heal speed reduction I think is a reasonable trade off for being able to heal without a medkit and was the glue that held boon builds together. Now it's just an irrelevant mechanic BHVR made and they're too scared to make one stronger than illumination, a perk everyone thinks is a joke.
The funniest thing about CoH getting shot is that we now have a better version in Strength in Shadows where you don't have to look for a totem and it's faster, so fast in fact that when paired with botany it's faster than someone else healing you. People go "oh going to basement is so dangerous that perk is so bad" but I have around 600 heals in basement and I promise you the killer has a million things better to do than randomly check basement. The amount of times I've been able to take protection hits for teammates, heal up and have time to take another protection hit for the same chase has been incredible. Or even better let teammates get doors while I heal so I can guarantee my escape has also been life saving. So I miss old CoH and would use it if it came back but at least I have a replacement.
7 -
And the worst part is BHVR is afraid to make strong new perks in place of the nerfed perks. Crazy that the top 5 used perks for survivors are basically the ones that were there when the game was released. Deja Vu, Windows, SB, Lithe, Breaks. Like dang the meta hasn't changed in almost 10 years.
0 -
Back in the ye olden days Self Care was so fast at self healing. If I remember correctly We'll Make It used to make that self heal also faster. While it was 100% fun to use. I don't miss it 😂
1 -
Typically with cob I myself would kick it then wait for someone to get back on it kick it again for it to continue to regress then start chase with nowhere to hide or smth. So I would run out of kicks relatively fast if survivors were good.
-2 -
Well we just got cross examination added to the list. Didn't even make it into main but somehow Jason did.
1 -
Adrenaline, my beloved.
As a solo queue survivor, those rare but epic moments where Adrenaline came in at just the right time to save the day are some of my favorite DBD memories. But of course, coordinated SWFs were 'abusing' it, so it certainly had to be nerfed… so that only those highly coordinated teams could get away with running it at all.
8 -
Adrenaline is a good example for it, the Pickrate also dropped massively with the tripple nerf.
On that note, Hope can also be mentioned. Again, maybe not nerfed into the ground, but enough that it is not really played anymore. And both are Perks which only trigger in Endgame, meaning that the Survivor must be alive at this point and all Gens need to be done.
7 -
100%. And OG Ruin.
-1 -
call of brine at least has a permanent home with Nemesis at least :( nobody thinks of Nemmy as a chess killer but at 1 gen left CoB can make those zombies force survivors into a war of attrition
0 -
Calm Spirit buffs made me so happy; silent bone tickling is so cool! But I'm genuinely baffled because I feel like bhvr genuinely feared a Calm Spirit meta if they just gave it a flat buff with no compensation nerf....they gave Calm Spirit of all things the killer addon treatment.
1 -
i miss self care a lot, i dont see why it cant be at 50% instead of 35% since 80 was obviously too high
7 -
Monitor and Abuse.
God i miss the straight 8 meter reduction, now that we got diminishing returns, I'd love to see that terror radius reduction get good again.
Maybe even suppress the red stain for extra sneakyness..2 -
Well, that's still four uses of that tactic, which specifically runs counter to CoB, per gen. How's that not enough?
2 -
Atp ruin + surveillance gives you way more value which is why I was suggesting at the fact it could be buffed.
0 -
STBFL my beloved
I miss you on Slinger3 -
But you said CoB got 'gutted' with limited gen kicks, and that doesn't quite follow, IMO.
1 -
Wake up of course, my escape rate used to be so high with this perk... nothing better then ratting at gates while last survivor dies on last hook.
2 -
Pretty much any perk that made stealth gameplay viable, especially with all the aura reading perks. 😆 also, COB and eruption.
-1 -
I know it's already been mentioned a lot but Spine Chill was a decent perk and for killer I miss old Ruin
1 -
Deja Vu only became meta in 2022 and Windows in 2021. Deja Vu's original effect was quite literally the worst perk in the entire games history, and Windows was no where near as strong since it had a much shorter range and a cooldown
6 -
Discordance
The constant gen alerts was great
