I think it's about time we changed Keys
So that they can't open the hatch, but moreso, increase their aura reading power. I'd love to use a key to see where the killer is for a while but blood amber doesn't last long.
It would also be nice if we could use keys to instantly open chests
I say we buff the aura reading power of keys, let them open chests and give them a new function which allows the survivor to use a key to get a hook escape on their first hook...or something...I don't know l'm just throwing in ideas

i can see i never use keys and try to give them away, for me...i just don't find them useful, esp the broken key if i find one...but hope you do get suggestions for an idea....i rarely use maps for the same reason

Yeah dull keys are useless atm.
I'd like for those to get a buff.
If keys are nerfed too hard the only viable items will be medkits and toolboxes which I don't really want :(

Having a key give you a guaranteed self unhook on your first hook would be a little much. It's crucial for a killer to get that early hook to get the momentum going in their favour.
Hooks are one of the few ways killers can consistently apply pressure to survivors (so long as they are on the hook, they cannot work on generators and someone needs to save them or else they will die), while things like healing are optional. By making it too easy for a survivor to unhook themselves, the killer would lose their ability to apply pressure early in the game. The second the killer leaves, the hooked survivor would be able to hop right off while everyone else continues powering through generators. I would compare it to the old decisive strike where a DS after your first chase completely changes the entire match.
Increasing the charges on keys would be interesting, though. I have experimented with keys a couple times and they are pretty handy. If they lasted a little longer I would definitely considering using them more often.

@Peanits a simple QoL change to help that would be to have keys and maps stop consuming charges while you're getting ready to use them, and instead work like every other item. only while they're in use, they lose charges. always thought it was pretty silly they'd consume charges while not even getting any use out of them

I just don't want to find broken keys in chests without ace in the hole.

All I'd like to see is a basic aura-reading power on the Broken Key, even if it's weak, it would be better than absolutely nothing when you find that thing in a chest.

I agree, keys should get reworked and not open the hatch anymore. More charges for aura reading as an alternative could work.
The most important thing is that you can't make a free early escape anymore.

The hatch is a really irritating mechanic with how it currently works.
Unlocking the hatch early with keys is too extreme in my opinion. It just ruins any good momentum a killer may of had going.
The "stale-mates" at hatch really need a change somehow as well. They are so boring and it's just a stand-off on which person decides to take the loss. The game shouldn't come down to a killer sitting on a hatch, and a survivor wandering around them until one person gives in.

the Broken Key needs to be changed. it's the only useless item in the game. it feels really bad finding one in a box.
an item shouldn't need addons just to be able to do anything.
