add more chests on the map

with perks like Apocalyptic Ingenuity and Moment of Glory getting buffed next update, now would be the best time to increase the amount of chests on the map. currently by default there’s only 3. maybe we could see an increase to 6 or if you want to go the extra mile, put 10 on the map.

this would directly buff the niche chest perks we have in the game and also buff dracula’s perk. while also giving survivors a “side objective” since everyone complains that survivors pump out gens too fast (and also increase perk variety).

if chest increase is not on the table, at the very least add rummage as a basekit feature (once per chest per survivor obviously) and change Appraisal to have a higher chance at finding better items when rummaging.

What are your thoughts on chests? do they need buffs? more of them on the map? or flat out reworked? Let the devs know what you think!

Apocalyptic Ingenuity is getting buffed? That's cool, I still kinda wish it's activation wasn't directly tied to chests though. I think having it on a 120 second cooldown or something while opening/rummaging chests cuts it's cooldown in half would be a way better idea. Those temporary pallets really aren't worth being tied to such a limited resource like chests considering that currently running the perk on the own can maybe net you…one pallet which is nuts.

my knowledge may be outdated, its hard to keep up with dbd but do chests still interfere with killer powers? I remember the meta against Xenomorph was to put up chest coins to further weaken their power.

I want more chests for survivors I just don't want it impacting killers or even ruining loops for either side

should be max 4 for me because Draculas perk will be even more stronger and I don't wanna constant wallhacks on me it's kinda cheesy and low skill

I did a lot of testing with Apocalyptic Ingenuity and Moment of Glory like a month or so ago. The biggest issue I had outside of it was a big sidequest getting 2 chest searches was outside of finding the chest finding one that wasn't searched already. I feel both being reduced to one chest search is fine although I 100% agree the amount of chest should be increased. Unless you run appraisal (Prior) you'd maybe get 2 uses out of the perks unless you just waste the entire game looking through chest.

I have a lot more criticisms for Apocalyptic Ingenuity but since this is about chest I will say yes I'd agree with increasing base chest count even if it meant retiring one of the chest offerings. If there were more chest it would give more opportunities for both survivor and killer for their related perks. Even without perks it would be good to have more items available in the trial.

The alternative I'd say is after searching a chest they would possibly reset after a certain time period. That way the amount of stations doesn't need to change.

That got patched awhile ago I believe so killer props take priority in the event of a conflict.

Actually you can counter that perk by just opening up the chest if I recall correctly.

yeah the issue is that 1. it affects you through walls and floors 2. the killer at the very least guaranteed sees you get on the chest and 3. the killer can close it again. if there are a large enough number of chests on the map, you might find yourself constantly getting aura read through walls or especially on 2 story maps through ceilings where you have no idea where the chest in question is, and even if you find it the killer could close it again. Not saying adding 1 or 2 chests would be a bad thing or make this overpowered, but once you start adding 3 or 4 it could be.

That said though I do think that there should be 1 or 2 more chests per match, and personally i think Ace in the Hole should become basekit (or maybe with just one addon, or weaker odds). I think that would make killer perks that effect chests actually worth using and actually incentivize survivors to open chests.

It is a good aura read for a few seconds, but there is no sound notification, so if you are not looking in that direction you don't see the aura.

The survivor sees the debuff icon so they can be aware the perk is in play, and the range is 8 meters so the chest is in the same tile or you just walked past it.

And yes the killer can close the chest, but once it's opened they can't see the aura of the opened chest. So unless it's the basement you can't keep track of where the chests are during the match so easily.

More chests means more side objectives for the survivors to interact with too, it's a win win!

And killer chest perks also get a buff!

Chests and totems please. As a survivor it can be a battle against teammates for totem perks

I think they should change the chest offering and just increase the base number of chests in the game. As BHVR has been recently on a 'make things easier to balance' with diminishing returns, another way they could handle this is making chests static amounts. That would make it easier to balance chest perks on both the survivor and killer side.

Sure but I don't really mind this? I don't think it'd be too strong and we should generally be encouraging more niche builds. If it gets to be too strong we can readjust the perk itself. Still I don't really mind killers having aura reading like that.

It could honestly be fine, I just don't want another Franklin's + Weave situation from when Vecna 1.0 first came out. That was just super annoying, and especially with the new killer being so good at capitalizing off of aura reading the idea of having something like that is scary

Trust me I get it. That crap was so broken. But at the same time I do think killers should have some good builds and encourage something other than pain res. If it becomes broken then the perk can change but ultimately chests and their related perks are in dire need of a buff.

Change coins to "increases chance of greater item rarity," or something to that effect

  • Archangel2O

Yeah maybe, although I think if we wanted to see less Pain Res, Pop, Corrupt, etc., killers would probably have to also have some kind of basekit regression buff and the perks would have to be nerfed

  • esarraf
    esarraf Member Posts: 458

They already got that. Generators used to not have a basekit 5% regression when you kicked them.

  • Archangel2O
    Archangel2O Member Posts: 552

Yeah, but 5% regression on a generator and .25 charges a second regression is not nearly enough when killers need a perk that on hook regresses 20% instantly 4 times in a match, and maybe another perk to increase gen kick regression after every hook to a total 20% in order to consistently do alright in normal lobbies. It could be small, like increasing basekit to 7% regression and 0.35 c/s, but it should be changed. And I'm a survivor main

I dunno about extra basekit chests, but perhaps any chest activation perks automatically spawn an extra?

  • dangersmymidd1ename

It's already fine as it is, also needing 5 charges progress to stop the regression. Pop was buffed significantly. The new perk Lay Waste, as well as Call of Brine buff will be more than enough regression power…

  • Archangel2O
    Archangel2O Member Posts: 552

What I'm saying is that regression power should be made partially basekit and the perks in question should be nerfed. On the killer side, most of the most used and most powerful perks are gen slowdown, and killers often feel obligated to use them otherwise they could get stomped. I'm saying buff basekit gen kicks, or add a tiny basekit Pain Res as some people have said (although I'd be concerned about DMS then) and nerf Pop, Pain Res, etc.

  • esarraf
    esarraf Member Posts: 458

Yeah pain res is too strong of a perk and should be nerfed I know.
