Help needed in countering Freddy

Hoping some experienced survivors can give me some tips about how to counter Freddy - every match I have against him ends up with me being sacrificed and while I'm managing to last longer in a match (I've only been playing for three weeks), I still struggle against him. Please note, I'm not complaining about him, I'm just trying to learn and gain other's perspectives.

Specifically, I'd like to know whether it's better to wake up or stay in the dream state (where I can see him coming) - if waking up is better, how do I do it (apart from being hooked).

Also, how close does Freddy have to be to put me in a dream state? I managed to dodge him a few times this morning by running as soon as I heard his song but it didn't solve it entirely. I haven't unlocked Freddy so I don't know how his perks work.

Any useful advice is welcome.

He can see you in the dream state when you are far away, but if he has Nurse's calling he'll see you when you are close so I would heal whever I was, hammering the skill check button to fail it and wake up as soon as it comes up.

I try to get a middle gen done first and then creep around the perimeter doing the other gens. When I hear his lullaby I leg as far as I can into a corner.

But I'm not a great survivor.

SelfCare is strong against him, he is easily loopable, when he get up close try to 360 him and that can make room between you and freddy

Some info about dreamworld: If you see a player with their head at a nodding angle they are asleep or going to sleep and Freddy is most likely near them. The 4 icons that tell you player status will have a cloud/fog around it when someone is asleep. If your entire team is asleep this is very bad. If you find someone who is not sleep they can snap their fingers and clap and wake you up. You can also do this for an asleep player when you are awake.

You are visible to Freddy at all times at a certain distance in the dream world. The closer you are to him, he has to find you like any other killer. When you put distance between you and him your aura turns red. If he slugs you while you are sleep he will always be able to find you.

A good counter to him besides learning to loop him is not staying asleep.

You can wake up 4 ways:

1.) fail a skillcheck while healing or have someone do it to you

2.) blow up a gen (fail a skillcheck)

3.)have someone who is NOT in dreamworld wake you up

4.) adrenaline will wake you up once you power the last generator

When you are being put to sleep try and put something between you and Freddy e.g. jump through a window, vault anything or circle a pallet. You can catch glimpses of Freddy while he is putting you to sleep unless he is using the pill bottle add on. If he knows what he is doing he is dogging your heels waiting for you to fall asleep so that he can get in a hit right away.

If you are injured try and heal if it is safe to do so and FAIL the skillcheck to wake up then resume healing. If you are not injured hop on a gen when you can and fail the first skillcheck that comes up then rotate to another gen in case he comes to check that gen.

If I repeat anything my apologies I didn't read everyone's response.

Since you are new I am assuming you prefer a "stealth" playstyle? Freddy is the one killer you cannot really sneak around since he is 100% invisible and his power has a very odd tracking hitbox. When going against Freddy its good to know how to loop/where to loop. Freddy is basically a standard M1/R1 killer with a power that won't really affect the game in a dramatic way. If you can gain experience with the maps and safe looping spots you can easily keep him occupied while things get done, or cause him to just outright leave you alone. Basically show no fear of being caught and always put pressure on the gens as Freddy cannot punish this boldness as much as other killers.

There are perks that are very strong against him too such as Self care allowing you to wake yourself up without a generator, or Adrenaline that gives you a free wake up once all the gens are done. You can even use the Syring add-on for a medkit to instantly wake up if need be.

He's easily looped, use gens and self care to wake yourself up, if you are unsure where he is, stay near pallets and windows otherwise you won't have time to react because of how short terror radius.

I think that's pretty much it.

Thanks for the advice; it has helped, I'm doing a lot better against him (not surviving yet but lasting more than a couple of minutes). Definitely need to practice the chases/looping as I suck at both.

Freddy is a beast against newcomers, especially against Solo survivor newcomers, you can try to loop him and using self-care to try to wake up, other than that until you get a solid grasp of the game and the mechanics Freddy is going to be difficult to deal with.

I dont see it on the rest of the comments but take on account that Freddy CANT hit you unless you are sleep so bear that in mind when doing actions, some times you can finish a generator, opening the gates or cleansing a Hex before he can attack you.

Spine Chill is also great for stealth, tells you when he finds you. Premonition also works. Lockers are also useless, because I tried to hide once as Meg, then got moried. :(

Freddy is quite strong at mindgaming because of his red glow seeming dim and his short height. To loop him, choose loops where you see him or safe loops.

Thank you again! Had a match against him today and lasted a while but was typically the first sacrificed. I was playing with friends, some a much higher level and they were struggling a bit too, so I don't feel too bad at my abilities. I am getting better though - the help on this forum is great!

Self Care and Adrenaline hard counter Freddy.

Spine Chill or Premonition can help you hide from him.

Freddy main here. Few extra things to know. He can see your aura while you're in his terror radius. And while you're asleep your action speed is slowed by 50%, so it's worth it to wake up asap. Make sure that the last gens aren't clumped together, I win matches where I don't need to walk far to get to all gens. Also, if you get found, get away from the gens. Either you'll get hit, but gens will get done, or he'll be smart and drop the chase to stay at the gens.

Step 1: Run around a piece of plywood if Freddy tries to chase you.

    Step 2: ???

    Step 3: Profit.

If you're asleep he can see you outside his terror radius. I've played a lot of survivors who sneak around when they are asleep and I'm thinking "Uh, you know I can see you right?" If you are asleep don't bother sneaking around. Run until you find something to wake you up. Freddy is actually one of the hardest killers to play as if you're goal is to kill everyone due to the fact that he can't hit a survivor without putting them to sleep first. Most times someone will survive. But If he decides to tunnel you, you're pretty screwed. Freddy is great at tunneling. Just hope he doesn't pick you as his "favorite." I got some pretty salty survivors when I did that. lol.

    Perks to counter Freddy:

Bond - Helps you find allies to wake you up.

Adrenaline - Wakes you up after last generator

Pharmacy - Increases odds of getting a skill check while healing.

Wake Up - Open Exits faster, counters Remember Me.

    Any I missed?

Yeah, I've been tunnelled by Freddy a few times. Don't last long when that happens.
