"The Spirit" is so badly designed.
To get straight into this here I'm not talking about her power, I think its very unique and high skill cap. However I am talking about the fact every half a second she turns invisible and doesn't even have a damn vaulting animation.
Its pretty ridiculous when you're in a chase and can't even tell where shes moving as for a couple steps she is invisible. To add on to that who thought it was a good idea to give her no vaulting animation, she could be vaulting/phasing or just seeing where you're going and I find that so stupid.
Simply make it so these don't happen. I play Spirit and survivor at rank 1 and its insane how bad her design is.

She is just a spirit after all.
5 -
I don't why they gave her that advantage over every other killer, but the lack of a vault animation is a really cheap "passive" bonus.
3 -
Nope.
0 -
Does that mean we should go through every killer and give them wacky little passives?
Oh here lets give the clown a clown car and a red nose, because as you put it "He is just a clown after all".
1 -
I feel like either they really wanted to give her that buff but I go more likely to the option of its DBD, devs probably were just too lazy to do it.
But in all seriousness I think it would be cool if they added passives for killers and survivors however it feels bizarre that she gets that while they pretend every killer has the same advantage.
1 -
Any reasons behind this or just nope?
0 -
I'm down for wacky passives, tbh. I think that would make things much more interesting.
8 -
Her power is too weak to warrant for all the stupid downsides the devs slapped on it, so I agree. She is poorly designed.
0 -
That's the spirits whole thing though, she phases in and out of existence.
Her passive phasing and no vault animation give her that little bit extra she needs so you have to keep on your toes guessing if she's about to use her power.
The spirits weakest point is Vault spots, I think it's fair she has no vault animation to compensate.
5 -
You've convinced me that this is a good idea. I want wacky little passives for all Killers now.
5 -
This is called Mindgame.
Do you even play DbD?
14 -
It's to mind-game and play with the survivors heads. It's fine plus it's bugged right now. Spirit makes so much noise, it's painfully bad as a passive ability.
@Science_Guy It's pretty obvious. They wanted to 'wow' everyone with her. That's why she is the only killer to be buffed so quickly to top tier. They wanted another top tier since the Nurse, Hag and Billy order was boring and they wanted more viable killers due to the community crying about lack of variety.
So they released Spirit, she was terrible at release, and they corrected her fast. She's one of the most popular killers because of the way she was executed and made. Everyone likes her animations, mind-games and her power.
Plus she's by far the most fun killer because of her mindgames. So @ImSpray she's not badly designed, in fact, she's the best killer in terms of designs. No point in complaining, since she, like Nurse is a killer too loved to be nerfed so hard.
5 -
But thats my point though it seems like they just got lazy when designing her. No other killers have to have "passives" to be viable. Sure some killers are just crap but you can't fix that by adding special little passives without giving other killers their own passives.

Its not a mindgame where its a straight 50/50 chance or in this case 33/33/33. Mindgames are when you outwit an opponent by for example facing the wrong direction hiding your red glare or pretending you are going around the loop the other way.
However it is not getting an advantage because you don't have a vaulting animation...
2 -
(I actually think it would be cool for passives to be a thing, it would also help bring more uniqueness to survivors)
When did devs ever listen to us though :(
1 -
What exactly makes this "lazy"?
0 -
To me it seems like they didn't want to figure out a way to make her equal to the higher end killers so they added a "passive" which aids in making her better.
However no other killers have that passive so I used "lazy" as its as if they added a new feature to killers (passives) that have not been implemented because they didn't want to put effort in.
It's like saying I need to win this foot race where I must out run my opponent, I guess I'll just get in my car. It wasn't ever seen in foot racing before but its still allowed because why not.

You do know there's ######### items specifically to increase the amount of phasing she does, right?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-HLfNwIg4Q&ab_channel=Zaner
It's an intentional gameplay mechanic

No vaulting animation = mindgames
Spirit is mindgame.
Thats the complete design.
2 -
Maybe lazy isn't the right word, what I'm trying to say is that to buff her to top tier they used methods that no other killer gets which is passive buffs to make her better. Off the top of my head the only other "passive" I can think off is Myers faster vaulting but my point is why doesn't other killers get this attention.
0 -
She's a high skill cap killer whose strength is in mindgaming survivors with her movement or at times lack thereof. I think she's fine considering what could have happened to her. She started off extremely weak.
1 -
I'm down for more passives.

Spirit’s entire character design is supposed to be unpredictable. She’s not supposed to be able to be tracked that easily. Are you gonna complain that you can’t see her while phasing?
Nurse can blink through solid objects. Can any other killer do that?
Myers has the fastest vaulting speed in the game (not including Wraith’s vaulting speed while cloaked).
All killers have abilities that gives them a different playstyle and makes them unique.
Spirit is fine the way she is. I swear I hope the devs don’t listen to cries about Spirit being OP because I’ll be hurt if she is ever nerfed.
8 -
Glad I'm not the only one who thought this. While it leaves potential for The Spirit to have great mindgames, it so cheesy being on the other end of it.
0 -
That phasing is actually part of her power.....
0 -
I actually like the passive phasing. It does look really weird seeing it through Kindred, but it really fits her.
I will agree that not having a vaulting animation is stupid, but it still fits with the whole mindgame theme of Rin. Though, if she isn't over within about two seconds, it's obvious she is either a) waiting for you or b) phasing.
1 -
The vault animation can be a major tool in mind games for a good spirit. The passive phasing is only a visual effect that only noobs fall for. (Not saying you're one) She is honestly the BEST designed killer in the game both mechanically and visually.

LOL

Absolutely, it would be great. Give them to both survivors and killers. It's one of the things that makes Identity V feel so much more dynamic than this game.

I do find her to be the most annoying killer to verse for that exact reason, prayer beads being a close second.
I'm fine with it being this way tho, but i just find her annoying.
2 -
I find every thing about Spirit fine except the times I get pulled of a generator because of Prayer Beads... Which happens quite a lot
0 -
The noob bit's not true; it has a random chance of allowing the Spirit player to ch\ange direction and gain some distance on the survivor without them even being able to tell that it's happened.
0 -
Did you jump over the vault, thinking she was coming around for you? Then there you have it, you got mindgamed...
Stop being so salty and adapt...oops I said the word no survivor player ever wants to hear...
1 -
I'm a survivor main and I love going against the spirit because it forces me to think on my loops and jukes. Same with the nurse. If I got got, kudos to the killer for being a great mofo.
Other killers that give me thrill during chase are hillbilly and huntress, but those chases are more instinctive and adrenaline rush causing. Any other killer bores me.
1 -
legion is designed greatly for people like you
0 -
Sounds like somebody got mindgamed
2 -
Nah, more like getting penetrated by her katana
2 -
On the killer end spirit does have a vaulting animation. Though, Onryo type monsters tend not to much other have walk or phase through objects so it is in line with the archetype.
0 -
Next up to ride the nerf train because she's 'unfun' (i.e. able to win consistently against Survivors): the Spirit.
0 -
*downvote clicking intensifies*
1 -
Nah she ain't anywhere near being in line for a nerf; she's perfectly balanced, albeit RNG with her passive.
(Then again I may be a bit biased as a Spirit main)
0 -
sounds like a whiny entitled survivor
0 -
Passive phasing is meant to do that. Any ground a spirit gains on you with passive phasing is so small because she is 110%, getting hits with it is rare.
0 -
If spirit becomes a big problem for you then use spine chill and iron will.
0 -
I don't know why they removed the directional sound on phasing. As a survivor you felt like you could use that sound, apply some of your own skill and try to counterplay. Im sure they could have buffed her walking speed to 115 like ezmode billy.
Now its just like, oh she went invisible. I'll just walk and hope. Oh she appeared and downed me from nowhere.. zzzzz.
The spirit is the most boring killer for me to vs as a survivor, Next to freddy/old legion.
1 -
Nerf Spirit and you get more Nurses and Billies.
Choose wisely.
2 -
Does she even gain any distance AT ALL? Because I’ve never noticed it. The Spirit herself gets no indication of when she passive phases, she walks like any normal killer on her screen. It may seem like it on the survivor side but it’s an illusion.
I may be wrong but I don’t see how that makes sense because she isn’t passive phasing on her screen.
0 -
She wasn’t that great on the PTB, she’s fine as it is now. Just because she’s strong doesn’t mean there is no counterplay. Iron Will and Spine Chill are great counterplay options.
If we wanna talk boring then Billy is easily the most boring. Rev your chainsaw and insta-down survivors. I’m falling asleep just thinking about it.
