Red Stain Shouldn't Show Thru Walls
Can we make it so the red stain doesn't pierce walls please? That includes wooden 'walls'/fences with the slits.

Been this way for so long now and brought up so many times to not be addressed, I've given up hope on this ever being fixed to be completely honest.

Agree. I think it only shows throughwalls on low settings though so this has to be a bug.
Mindgames and moonwalking are kinda useless if you can see the red stain through walls.

@Claudette_Baguette it always shows through walls on console.

@Bongbingbing Dang, I only started 2 months ago. This problem has been around awhile, devs know of it, and have done nothing?

Uhhh no? I'm on Xbox and you can't see the red stain through most walls. Some walls you can but not to the extent it happens on PC.
And OP I agree, walls should block the red stain even on the lowest settings.
2 -
I agree as well.
I honestly care about fairness and for this reason I have tried medium settings (you can't see the red light through walls if you are using medium or higher) but unfortunately I start having FPS issues.
They should fix low setting red stain issue.

@thesuicidefox on PS4 at most pallet loops I can see it.

it affects killers so dont expect a fix anytime soon

Honestly with survivors already having the third person advantage the red stain shouldn't even exist.

U can hide it tho, but takes more skill. They need to fix sound, more important than red glow imo

Agreed

We have a general agreed upon consensus, what do we do now? @Peanits @not_Queen
1 -
Basically yes. It's disappointing to see it go on for so long but on the bright side, It took 2 years to get the coldwind walls fixed so It might happen eventually.

Use beast of pray. Dont complain for everything
3 -
@Bongbingbing And nobody even complained, not even survivor mains.
This is something that I don't understand. There are things that they can fix without getting anybody angry and they don't even do that.
One of the things was hiding killers' loadout until the match ended, and the other thing was this coldwind wall adjustment. Sure there were a couple of threads but for the most part, everybody was okay with these changes.
They are pissing people for no reason by not fixing obvious flaws. I don't understand it.

Completely agree, It seems like they either don't have enough staff to tackle the issues or they are afraid to make some fixes in case there is backlash because no way should DS and the coldwind walls have taken 2 whole years to be fixed.
Either way something needs to change.
2 -
Yeah , in my opinion it shouldn't but I don't know what the devs think.
If it wasn't going through walls a lot of looping could be fixed.

I think an important question to ask is "Just how important is the Red Stain at all?"
If it were removed, how would it affect overall gameplay and how much of an impact would it have on survivors? How difficult would it be to adapt to the change?
I always thought it would make a match more tense by not knowing or not being able to see a killer clearly in the distance due to the red stain.
"Was that a Claudette or a Hag?"
"Did it see me?"

@SpaceCoconut it would be interesting to see it tested, but what would beast of prey be changed to?
0 -
That's up to the devs ;)
The focus of Beast of Prey seems to be the chase, so perhaps it could give a bonus to movement during a chase... or maybe outside of a chase to be more fair.
Maybe it would create the feeling of hunting for prey when it's quiet and then toying with them during a chase.

The red stain exists to give Survivors time to react to a Killer. Look at the Killer shack for an example and assume the stain didn't bleed through its walls.
With the stain the Killer needs to play smart to hide it or else a Survivor can see where he is going a moment before he gets there. "Is he going left or right?" That small moment of notice helps a LOT in giving someone time to react and helps with lag as well.
Without the stain a Survivor simply wont be able to react at all to the Killer without having direct line of sight. Making their reaction times worse as the Killer can get that much closer before a Survivor knows anything. When it comes to lag, having no time to react beforehand just makes what lag you have that much worse.
Removing the red stain will have an effect on gameplay. 100% certain of that and the forums will be filled with complaints of people being unable to see the Killer coming. It would be like Launch all over again when the Wraith of all powerful. No one could (or bothered to) see him coming so common thought was the Wraith was THE strongest Killer back then. But if that's a bad thing or not, I can't really say. Odds tell me the red stain isn't needed.
Personally, Id love to get a PTB that removed the red stain in the least. The devs think it is needed. But I want to see what the community thinks about gameplay without the red stain.

I play both on PC and Console and it always shows through walls.

I think it's because the red stain isn't actually a lighting effect, like it looks like. It's a single primitive skinned to look like a red lighting effect. It doesn't have collision, so it pierces through walls.
However, I'm in the school of people that don't think the survivors actually need the red stain. Since good survivors are watching the killer and don't rely much on the red stain, except to see what corner the killer is coming around.
So the red stain is more of a crutch for bad survivors. A bad crutch since it can and often is, used against them.

So how do we get it to stop going through walls?
0 -
You can't. Unless the devs fix it which is unlikely.

How do we get the devs to fix it? We are their customers, we are playing the game ... shouldn't they cater to us?

We've done all we can, the best we can do is post here in hopes that the right people see it or the community team pass on the message.

How would survivors adapt? They wouldn't. They would whine the house down just like every time they received the smallest paper-nerf or the smallest alteration to their toxic meta.

agreed. It can really ruin some mindgames

Moonwalking and Red stain management is a thing for a reason. Those two are the things that put the difference between a good killer and a bad one to a certain extent.
"Survivors would never adapt, they would cry to the devs." Oh, really? What about the pallet vacuum adaptation? Or the exhaustion nerf adaptation? Or the self-care nerf adaptation? Or the DS nerf adaptation? Or the flashlight nerf adaptation? Or the pick-up animation buff adaptation? Or the pallet decrease adaptation? Hmm. Yup. Survivors know only how to cry.
The Red Stain is there for a big reason. It's supposed to let you know where the killer is no matter what. Survivors need that information because the Killers are faster than them. Some good killers have managed to adapt to this, but some haven't. So, who can't adapt again?

@FeelsVeryBadMan How do I adapt to a giant red light shining through walls? Just never look at the survivor until I am about to hit them? How does that work?

Nope, kiddo, survivors never adapted to anything, because they never had to. Every time survivors received even the smallest paper-nerf, they review-bombed the game, and the devs subsequentially gave them substantial buffs and/or substantial nerfs to killers in the following patches to keep them happy and quiet. Exhaustion "nerf"? Compensated by status effects being discarded upon hooking. Pallet vacuum? Compensated in the Spirit patch with the pallet hitbox being widened to the point where killers can get stunned through walls and round corners. DS "nerf" (which was actually a buff, but let's pretend it was a nerf just to let your post retain some shred of dignity)? Compensated the next patch with the introduction of Mettle of man.
On the other hand, killers did adapt, but got nerfed every single time they did. Survivors abused the max-boldness-upon-killer-stun bug, killers complained, got told to just adapt and so we did by playing the hokey cokey at pallets to avoid stuns and thus negating boldness points to survivors. Survivors whined, and the devs took our ability to avoid stuns by increasing both the time-window and the range of pallet stuns, creating the game-breaking pallet-looping we have today. Survivors broke all the hooks, making it literally impossible for the killer to win unless we got lucky with the basement's placement, we complained, got told to "just adapt", so we did. Then we got A Nurse's calling and Deerstalker nerfed because survivors cried about bleeding out on the floor because of a situation they created. Regenerating hooks would be introduced only several months after the fact, almost a whole year after they were needed. Survivors swarmed the hooks for rescues whilst complaining about killers "camping" when we never even had a chance to leave the bloody thing, and, as no survivors were doing generators, we didn't even have a reson to. We complained, got told to just adapt, so we combined the perks Unrelenting and Save the best for last to reduce the M1 attack cooldown and prevent hook-swarming. Survivors screamed and cried like never before. How dare we prevent them to get away with constant in-game trolling, farming, exploiting and abusiveness? So the devs nerfed both perks, harder than what survivors even asked for, to the point of making them completely useless, and without giving any kind of valid explanation for why they made those changes. Seeing as survivors refused to do gens anyway and were constantly trying to kite us near their hooked teammates, we started to phisically block the space for unhooking. Survivors went ballistic. "Why do killers keep adapting after we dismiss each and every one of their complaints by telling them to JuSt AdApT!?1!1!?1?1?!" So they got killers nerfed again and gained some nice buffs in the process: the Trapper had his only valid defense ability of placing traps under hooks taken away (with the devs disingenuosly listing this as a bug-fix), and survivors are now able to unhook from every angle.
Do I need to go on with the list or do you think this is enough to prove how different the killers' mindset is compared to the survivors'?
