So why were the stairs widened instead of the killer hitbox simply shrunk to the size that would let survivors run past?

Or even just killer collision with survivors removed completely?

Why was there a decision made to just nerf killers with no compensation instead of give a more even handed balance to the presented problem of basement stairs or give killers any kind of even token buff to compensate?

    Pick one.

Either they nerfed the killer by making their hitbox smaller, or widened the stairs.

    A. They didn't nerf the killer, the hitbox remained the same.

    B. The stairs are widened, blame the jerk killers that take the game hostage for survivors.

I'm a killer main and I don't care for these changes, who the hell cares.

Reducing killer collision sizes would be a massive buff to killers and would require far more balancing than just changing the basement stairs.

Killers would actually benefit tremendously from a smaller hitbox. Cutting corners will be easier and faster, survivors wouldn't be able to body block hooks very well, and those stupid looking pallet stuns that touch your pinky toe won't happen.

Making the hitbox small enough to allow a survivor to pass through on the stairs would actually make looping nigh impossible. It also would make chunky killers look dumb when survivors phase right through them.

Why the ######### stop this very valid basement tactic.

Once hit, people can run through the killer, so at best, he gets one free hit, and you get out. Nevermind how long it took the killer to put someone in that basement (longer then your average hook, and every moment counts)

So now you just removed most of the reason killers basement people. Pretty much just trapper and Hag will basement now.

If you shrink killer hitbox looping wouldn't work anymore as it currently does. This means they had to completely change the maps against to balance everything out, add more pallets etc.

I've had soooooo many games with Wraiths who just block the stairs and hold the game hostage.

I haven't played the new changes but if it can stop the griefers who think it's "fun" to block players forever then I'm all for it 👍

Also, killers would just exploit this with the new end game. How could that be balanced without this change?

They don't care about balance, they literally want to be able to kill survivors by standing on the stairs for a few minutes.

just saying, there are ways to stop full on game hostage on the stairs, wihtout gutting valid killer tactics.

Something like "if killer remains at the entrance of the stairs for 15 seconds, they lose collision"

bam, easy fix. No more hostage, huntress still gets her basement game.

Because survivors complained. Nothing has been done about MoM tho!

    Basement?

Oh, you mean The Survivor Vacation Station - Comes with free complimentary item, and, more often than not, the best loop spot in the game, all with no additional danger :D

Breaking news: man can't play shack, gets whiny about it

Please, it's definitely been upgraded to "cozy cabin" at this point.

There's no need to debase it any further with your "shack" label.

Still one way in and one way out. If you think the basement is anything close to safe just cause you can't bodyblock there anymore than you're not very good at capitalizing on it.

I suggested something like this months ago too. They'd have to modify it a bit if they don't want EGC cheesing, but that wouldn't be so bad.

I'm just guessing that the current change was the easiest solution. Not the biggest fan and I hope they change it to something like that and to address survivors griefing survivors too.

I agree with the change being needed but it would be nice to have it so before egc happens it's still possible to run out BT Etc.
