Should dbd be a little worried about Predator Hunting Grounds release on PS4 in 2020?

Wraiths cloak is all he really has besides the windstorm boost. If they made a cloaked hunter type of killer they'd need to have a significantly weaker cloak mechanic than Wraith

Lol I was a diehard F13 player that left to play DBD. Good point though lol.

If anything this might help DBD. It will attract new players to the genre.

Fox only owned the film license for X-men, nothing else. Marvel/Disney could've allowed Capcom to use the mutants in their game but Disney was being petty. When Disney bought Marvel they disallowed X-men games from being made in an effort to lower the value of the X-men brand for Fox. Disney wanted to see the X-men films fail so it'd make it easier and cheaper to buy the film rights back.

Of course they ended up buying the entirety of Fox. Now we see X-men characters appearing in that Nintendo Avengers game.

Its from the ssme studio that released Friday the 13th... so expect a Bikini pack, and that is likely the least mediocre thing in the game.

If DBD dies in 2020, it won't be because some new game came along it killed it. It'll die at Behaviour's own hands.

Dbd isn't going to 'die' anytime soon. Probably still be doing well in 8+ years when no more work is being done and bhvr are working on their next project.

Also Freddy can't hold a controller to play Predator HG anyways

I am really excited to see more from predator hunting grounds really happy as been feeling dbd has lost its horror and is slowly becoming a party game.

More so exciting is the possibility of licences like alien and terminator that could go into the predator hunting grounds game.

I am very excited as a huge fan and hopefully will be awesome control wise as dbd controls on console is a problem.

Once I see more I'm sure I will be buying this game

Interesting question, but I don't believe it poses a threat to DBD, they're 2 completely different types of games. But I do believe it will be a solid game, at least from what I've seen and heard. I have to say, DBD is one of the most enduring games I've ever seen. Games like F13, Hide or die, and Last year all tried to top it, but 3 years on, DBD has somehow outlasted all of them, and is still going strong, regardless of what the constant complainers say about the game .

@Orion F13 sold 2 million copies. That's hardly a flop. The failure of the dev team to fix long standing bugs, poor communication with the community, and balance issues caused it's decline. Also the lawsuit bringing new content to a hault didn't help. Even with all that it's still doing okay on console. PC is where it died off pretty quickly.

I think it might damage the player base on console for those that don't see this as a worry with the constant threads about long wait times on console already. If P. H offers a better control less buggy game. I defently see this pulling people away. Before you say no big deal losing people on consle will hurt they need the money coming in to fund dedicated servers and in sure the ps4 community does give them a decent money.

No business wants to loose people giving them funding.

Don't mean to nitpick, well actually yes I do, but playstation only accounts for roughly 60% of sony's profits, at least according to their 2018 Q4 report.

No one should worry since the developers who are making the game are illfonic... The game will die after two months.

    twistedmonkey Member Posts: 4,297

Having a lot of sales doesnt mean it didn't flop, the game lost players really quickly due to bugs.

The whole lawsuit was known bwfore they released the game and was subject to a halt in content, even the mobile game came under that but they started making more content again as Miller was quoted saying he didn't care about the games.

It looks more like the devs used the lawsuit as an excuse to hault production as they no longer wanted to work on the game, this was shown even more when they posted how even if the lawsuit was sorted out quickly they would still not add any more content.

Don't know why you have so many vote downs. It definitely will draw players away from this game because it'll be polished and balanced unlike Dbd. The devs need to learn how to fix the problems in the game to stand a chance at competing. I'm Level 83 Devotion 1, Rank 3 Killer currently (was 1 yesterday), have the PS4 Platinum trophy, and have unlocked all killer perks and I am so fed up with Dbd.

@thrawn3054 How long did it take them to sell 2 million copies? DbD did that in a few months, IIRC.

Do you have data regarding consoles? I don't think the data is publicly available.

  • LCGaster

I personally think it doesn't stand a chance. And it's made by the same people who made F13 the game, so they might mess everything up again

  • thrawn3054
    thrawn3054 Member Posts: 5,897

@OrionThey sold the majority of there copies within the first few months I believe. I'm not aware of specific data existing for console numbers. I do know getting a game was ne or hard. It was also relatively rare to encounter the same person again. I don't know the current state of F13's player base though.

Well this brings good things for both sides, If P:HG is anything like AvP then i'll be on this ######### at launch.

Im actually excited for this because we were just talking about Aliens and Predators in DBD(Remember how i said DBD wouldnt serve these iconic monsters justice? This is the way to do it, give them their own game.)

*What this will do for me though is*

-Give me a break from DBD , Ive got over 2000hrs and all achs and i just play now to collect bloodpoints(I want to be able to unlock cosmetics but sadly theres nothing)

-Be able to screw around in Predator with DBD knowledge(No second chances this time , pepega)

-I have to wait for it to come to PC , screw capped console games

Why does everyone think something will kill dbd and 'we need to do something'?

We're not going to sabotage games (At least I won't) and there's no point making a thread about it.

I stated numourous times that Predator HG will not kill dbd. If you want to create an argument over a lie you make then I wouldn't trust your opinion in this thread.

Dbd has lacked variety from day 1, the only additions are killers survivor reskins, maps cosmetics and balance changes. More needs to be done.

And just to defeat your point. If Predator HG is decent I will play dbd less as would many others unless there is incentive to continue playing dbd all the time.

Seems like you don't acknowledge what desperately needs to be done.

    Predator what?

  • AshleyWB
    AshleyWB Member Posts: 4,061

Predator Hunting Grounds is a asymmetric style game coming to PS4. It might have a lot of similarities with dbd, unknown as if yet. We know it's a shooter.

  • AshleyWB
    AshleyWB Member Posts: 4,061

You say that yet we have a game that's been the same since release. Do 5 gens escape. That's it. Predator can't really be much dryer than what dbd has been gameplay wise.

Illfonic if they were smart will focus on exciting game modes to have that variety that dbd has been missing.

I didn't know it was the Friday people making Predator :( damn

I don't think the Jason rights lawsuit ruined the game, it was glitchy trash way before that happened and the community was badly neglected. As much as I love those horseshoe crab faced trophy hunting UGLY M********ERS I'm going to wait and see how it goes for a year or so before buying it.

  • AshleyWB
    AshleyWB Member Posts: 4,061

A big part of Fridays success was how broken and buggy it was. I had a blast spinning off the map when Jason smashed the car, floating in the air driving a boat and abusing glitches to bully Jason with friends.

Plus role playing was fun too.

  • malloymk
    malloymk Member Posts: 1,555

Illfonic was a major part of that failure. I'm sure Bhvr is really losing sleep over losing some players for a couple of weeks until players find and abuse game breaking glitches.

You do know that people still abuse the roof glitch in F13 THAT EXISTED AT LAUNCH.

  • AshleyWB
    AshleyWB Member Posts: 4,061

I've not seen any abuse of glitches recently. In fact F13 has addressed a lot if not all bugs and glitches known.

Most of the issues you see being fixed are from the new devs gun media brought into patch the game, black tower studios.

Illfonic are no longer working on the game since September last year.

If the game releases in a working condition that has a lot of content and a well balanced and fun gamemode/gamemodes, DvD should be scared since the only thing that can save this game at this point is some fresh new base content. Not another Garbo killer with Garbo perks on each side with a map everyone will complain about.

DbD needs a new gamemode badly.

  • AshleyWB
    AshleyWB Member Posts: 4,061

I agree but dbd still put some good stuff out in chapters and updates. Just need to focus on game modes badly as you say.

The only thing that will kill DBD is DBD.

Healthy competition is good for the community and the game. Right now DBD has none.. so we are left with piles of bugs that go untouched for what seems like forever - and we allow it because there is nothing on the market like this worthwhile playing. Competition would force them to rectify the bugs before the community moves on to its competitor.

  • AshleyWB
    AshleyWB Member Posts: 4,061

I would agree but everything else thats been up being compared is also very buggy. Some variety goes a long way. Add a dbd battle royale mode, it would be the best thing in years because we've been craving another game mode since near release.

I'm sure there's better ideas better than battle royale, it's just an example before anyone gets triggered

I do have to agree... the potential is there... like you stated it has a big budget and a well known character right out of the gate... and with the potential of having Arnold Schwarzenegger in the game??... DBD is still the king and is building but this predator game could give a little push
