How do you play Spirit?

No add-ons. Base Spirit only.

So far i've been struggling a lot so i'm looking for advice. It seems like a lot of guessing is involved even with headphones turned up super loud because the sounds aren't very consistent.

I never feel in control it feels like every time i use the power its a mind game coin flip, will the survivor fall for what i'm doing or will i fall for what they're about to do?

If i use my power to catch up and they double back knowing i am using their scratch marks am i losing more time relocating them than if i just chased normally at 4.4 ms?

I could use cheese add-ons (Beads,Saya, Amulet, Brooch,Katana Tsuba) and do really well but i like to avoid relying on a limited set of items to have a chance.

practice. by base spirit do you mean no perks too? if not, then i like to run bbq, devour hope, and make your choice/stridor. but these are all teachables :/

@Tydie Perks are fine i have all of them and can use them every match.

My issue with add-ons is you can run out of them.

The build i usually use is BBQ, Whispers, Enduring and Ruin.

Bloody Brooch and Dirty Ubawakis are good for learning spirit.

Gives you an activation speed along with increase phase walking speed.

Yakokuke Amulet with Bloody Brooch is a good combo.

As for perks...man, BBQ, Nurses, Ruin and an optional 4th perk, I Love Infectious Fright on her but hey...up to you.

Put practice into her, you'll dominate. She's the 2nd best killer in the game.

It's currently very hard to track survivors using sound. It used to be easier. Stridor helps if you can get it, but I've twice gone from level 1 to 50 with her without seeing it.

That aside, Spirit benefits greatly not just from your experience but the survivors' as well. Ironically she tends to suffer against less experienced survivors because their mistakes make them unpredictable. Remember that you still have collision when phasing, which can sometimes help find survivors if you suspect they're crouching in a corner or sitting under a pallet.

Scratch marks will get you in the general area but the majority of your reads are from sound and predicting survivor movements. IE if I'm phase walk chasing them to a pallet I will just immediately go around to the other side because they are expecting you to be coming straight at them. Use standing still to your advantage. They can't tell if you are phasing right towards them or just faking it. A lot of times this will cause them to slow walk away from the pallet which is just enough distance to hit them before they can get back to it after you were fake phasing.

If you see the scratch marks abruptly end when you are chasing them in phase you can usually assume they are doubling back on you while walking.

If you're having trouble hearing them well enough still you can run Stridor to get a better feel for it.

You also should use good headphones.

you should try out swapping ruin with devour. you'd be surprised how often the totem doesn't get cleansed because survivors think its haunted ground.

One more point to take note of. Don't get too discouraged if you can't hear them well as the sounds are currently still messed up so normally you'd be able to hear the survivors a lot better than you can right now. The devs noted it in the last stream but it's still being worked on.
