Okay, I need to ask this" because I no longer understand the matchmaking system.

If I presume it's not broken (which it very likely is) I can only ask

Is it Rank based or Performance based? Because by now I can't tell.

It's neither. Matchmaking just puts you together with who is own. It tends to try a go in the same rank, but if no one of your rank is on then you get higher ranks. If you're unfortunate then you'll get a SWF that is a mix of red and purple ranks and generally have a terrible time. The game doesn't have the capability to separate out ranks well. We'll have to wait for dedicated servers to roll out for that.

It's based on whoever waits the longest.

Noticing this a lot now, I have been against rank 13-18 killers and with up to rank 4 survivors. Ironically, we all always die. I guess I do suck at solo surviving :(

I've also been getting results that say "Brutal Killer" but I either pip or depip. Like, huh?

I was duoing today with my buddy and we are r5 and r14 and we got r20 killer multiple times with less that 10 hours played.

    Matchmaking is fine /s

I’ve seen some rank 17-20 killers while I’m yellow/green rank. I think it’s usually when the wait time is longer or nobody else is really playing killer at the time maybe.

Funny this, a friend and I tried survivor on the weekend and it was mostly okay rank 13 being our highest killer difference (we're both around rank 12 as first time playing post reset) but then out of the blue we got a rank 4 killer and 2 rank 4 survivors...what is this? Also it's not like rank matters too much though, that rank 4 killer was no more difficult than some of the rank 13s ( I actually escaped and won chases against the red rank killer and one of the red rank survivors got destroyed)

I've also had purple rank survivors in my team against a rank 13 doctor with one perk and they both died easily/couldn't last a chase for 5s, he wasn't hard tunneling either and we had the strong macmillan coal tower loop...and in the few killer matches I played I could get demolished by a rank 13 squad (rank 15 killer because again reset) but then the next match get some purple and green ranks who were complete potatoes. It makes no sense at all...

Also, since I know a lot of killer tricks, I like to down survivors but bring them to gens of other survivors until they get the notion that I am sparing them with just hitting them. And this one game, I could tell who was high rank and who was from the free weekend. (Hint: They blow up gens every 5 seconds) The rank 16 Ash became mysteriously afk, so he got sacrificed by the Entity right next to the closed hatch. I finally got a rank point in killer after 3 months of playing! :D

Since the devs removed a lot of players from the higher ranks, this needs to happen in order for them to be able to find matches.

It is because of how they match make. I believe now the new system is in place.

So it basically takes people in buckets of whatever size...

Then it matches a survivor bucket to killer bucket.

That way everyone will eventually get matched up, but not necessarily correctly. Probably depends on the criteria used in creating the buckets.

They removed the edge cases in that everyone will get matched up eventually.
