Dull Totem

I'm sorry for the lack of capacity to understand what a Dull Totem is. I already looked around Internet and I still don't get what a Dull Totem does.

I'm pretty new at this game (it's been around a week I started playing). I main The Spirit and I always wondered what a "trapped Hex" is and overall I still don't get what "The remaining trapped Hex Totem immediately becomes a Dull Totem" means (description taken from Hex: Haunted Grounds Perk).

Is a Dull Totem like a Totem that stops working? Does this mean that Haunted Grounds is crap compared to some Perks?

Not situational, but with haunted grounds, if you're spirit, and they dont notice ruin is a thing, they likely won't touch those totems.

However if that's the case, when noed activates theyll have a shit time trying to fix the problem.

It puts pressure on them to deal with it early or ve screwed late game. And they dont know which until it's too late.

Now if they cleanse dulls and leave those two lit because of the reasons above, you may be SOL.

It doesn't do anything. They're just there. They activate if the killer runs any Hex Perks.

Haunted Grounds is great if you're running another Hex Perk.

If someone is looking for Ruin and they find a totem, it might be Haunted Grounds since it's 2 totems instead of 1.

An active totem is a totem with a hex perk assigned to it

A trapped totem is a special kind of active totem that's created by Haunted grounds, which when cleansed exposes every survivor

A dull totem is a totem with no perk assigned to it. It means nothing if it's broken (unless you're running NOED, which needs a dull totem)

In short, a dull totem is a totem with no perk assigned, so theres nothing special about them.

Easiest thing to remember is if you see ANY totem, lit or not, break it. No one escapes death doesn't activate until the gens are done, so you wouldnt know it exists until then. Be proactive and remove any chance of it before it happens and everyone gets salty about NOED.

    It's a totem that's not lit up.

Dull totems only useful to paranoid survivors that think the killers have NOED.

You're Haunted Grounds will light up 2 dull totems making some survivors think its a Hex perk. When one is cleansed, the survivors get an exposed effect that makes you as a killer one-shot them.

Thanks to everyone for the answers. So basically, I often use this build of Perks:

    Haunted Grounds

    NOED

    Whispers

    Thrills of the Hunt

I often like to use it to locate survivors who are repairing gens with Whispers or to get an idea of where they are.

And, if I understood well, is Haunted Grounds and NOED pretty much a situational combo? Because I don't think that anyone is going to cleanse my Hexes when you can escape unless the survivors are a sucidal group of premade friends trying to save their hooked friend.

First is Dull Totem (no effects) second is Hex Totem.

If you want haunted grounds to go off more, switch thrill out for ruin.

NOED is only situational if you as a killer don't let survivors finish their objective. There has to be a dull totem still up though, otherwise NOED won't work. Some survivors will cleanse your hexes because they give a lot of points or they think it might be another perk.

    Example: Devour Hope.

ATM I don't have Ruin. I'd like to replace NOED with that Perk (or replace it with Haunted Grounds) but you know I still don't have enough BP to reach lvl30 (or whatever level I need to reach) with the Hag.

    "######### Out of Luck"

If they dont see ruin, and leave the two lit haunted ground totems alone, but cleanse all dolls, noed wont activate.

    Actually this is wrong.

If you just want to stop NoEd, only cleanse dull totems.

Cleansing Lit Totems can be dangerous as they may be running Thrill of the Hunt or Haunted Grounds (or both). If you are okay with that though go and break lit totems. Often they will be running something nasty like Devour Hope or Huntress Lullaby or Ruin, so cleansing lit totems is often worth it.
