Huntress and Map Design
I've been playing Huntress since Howling Grounds. She's always been one of my favorite killers to play as and against. However something's been happening lately since Clown update. It's a little something called bad map design is horribly affecting her.
It's been an issue for as long as a veteran DbD player can remember. Some killers don't need to worry about it as much as other killers. Some need to worry about it even more. Huntress is one of the killers that get severely affected by bad maps. Whenever they're large or there's so much junk and clutter in the maps, it hurts a lot of the mid/low tier killers.
Ever since the large and universally hated Yamoka Estate has been released, maps haven't improved by design at all. We have the awful Ormond Map. Another large Red Forest map. I'm not saying that they're ugly or bad asthetically, they're amazing in that category; they just suck to play on for one side, the other, or both.
Let's get back to how this affects Huntress. She's a ranged killer, capable of doing great things in a good player's hands. Sniping, mindgaming, pressure. Bad map design is holding her down sadly. There's so much clutter in certain maps that it's difficult to aim a good shot. Every poorly designed map is a nerf to her.
She has certain map pools she can do well in. Autohaven and MacMillan; however this patch added a mass amount of trees to these said map pools. I'm not saying she won't do well in these maps anymore; they're still her best ones. However it takes away alot from one of her skills, sniping. Sniping is one of the things that make Huntress the most rewarding killer to play and map design shouldn't take from that.
Her speed is an issue as well. A 4.4 movement speed killer is going to do a lot worse on a large map than a killer with a mobility ability or 4.6 movement speed.
TLDR: Huntress has been getting shafted and nerfed every patch by horrid map design for too long and we need a change. Mass amounts of trees, clutter and large maps take away a lot of her potential.

I have a sought of photo-negative version of this problem, where I keep getting Mother's Dwelling as anything but huntress, and with the gens so spread out its hard to patrol effectively.

That's what I'm saying! I go on survivor and get Autohaven, MacMillan, and Coldwind. But when I decide to play killer in general I get Swamp and worse.

Would be a higher rank but queue times are horrid. Although, I can say even without 'sniping' she still has plenty of potential. The main thing that kills are are sections where the loops are a certain length where bloodlust and following are nil. Essentially an infinite for lower than 115% killers. Which due to poor LOS detection there are many on a few of the coldwind maps and autohaven at times. However, this is again perkless and don't comment on the dc they pulled the ripcord once they couldn't complete a gen in front of me and got grabbed. Although, Yamoka Estate is by far the worst map to play as Huntress.

map design is sort of a universal problem right now, huntress is just disproportionately affected by it. BHVR seems to want to fill their maps with more "stuff" to increase their aesthetic value but this unfortunately undermines huntress's ability to do well on these maps (and hampers other killers too)

Yeah, it's really frustrating. What do you think about the new map (Loop Money) changes occuring? I personally see an issue with Bloodlust with the new changes.

A lot of parts of certain maps are infinites for 110 killers. It's best to ignore those parts because you would be chasing for nothing. I know that she has more potential without sniping, but it's something that makes her really fun to play.

it's definitely a problem regarding bloodlust. i understand wanting less safe loops but the problem with unsafe loops is that they aren't "mindgameable" because bloodlust exists, and currently every unsafe loop can be reliably bloodlusted to the point at which player skill stops being a factor. they've needed to take a look at bloodlust for a while now, i just hope this change makes it their focus

I'm thinking... I know that the devs probably won't do it but what if they slowly start disabling Bloodlust on reworked maps?

With maps filled with just abunch of unsafe pallets, I'm foreseeing a build using clown with Enduring to be QUITE affective. Can probably score a hit at damn near EVERY pallet.

Haddonfield is by far the worst map for Huntress, then Spirit, Legion and Freddy's maps
Even Shelter Woods and Coal Tower are becoming annoying to play with her, both scenarios has so many trees after the update (I know, Ghostface lol) but It's kinda hard to do some good shots

You might as well DC on Haddonfield when playing most killers. Trapper probably has more potential on it than others. But the fact that they changed some maps for the sake of a new killer and not considering how other killers will perform is really annoying.

I still think she is fun for the most part, but like I said, every patch with a new map or new map changes nerf her indirectly, which make more annoying to play. Just another vicious cycle of this game.

Dont forget that huntress also suffers from the bad collision boxes of most objects.
When theres an invisible box above every debris just so survivors cant jump on them but it hurts huntress even more.

As someone else said, map design is an issue for pretty much every killer. Huntress is just disproportionately impacted by it due to her reliance on having a clear shot with her axes.
It sucks. I hope the map reworks that they do help with it

I remember Autohaven trucks being broke for the longest time before they fixed them. That was a bad time.
I remember a lot of the boxes on Swamp with higher collision boxes than the box itself and the invisible walls on the corners of the Ormond lodge that have yet to be fixed. Sad times.

maps in general are just badly designed. I'll never understand why the devs keep pushing out huge maps that makes gen pressure almost impossible. It's crazy that they just don't improve in that area.
Let's hope the upcoming map reworks will help this problem.

They push them out probably because they want aesthetically pleasing map design, but the aesthetic parts of the map end up making the map unfun and unbalanced to play on; along with size of the past 3 maps.
It takes awhile for Bhvr to learn from these sort of things. They are learning somewhat with the map reworks that are happening. However, like a lot of people like myself fear about bloodlust being unnecessary on the reworked maps.

If they fix the maps than they definitely need to get rid of bloodlust as well.
And I get your point. I'm sure though that it's possible to create aesthetically pleasing maps and still not make them to huge.

They just need to stop relying on putting a lot of clutter in the maps and make them normal sized. Perhaps making pallets and lockers look different for each realm. Shoot, even make killer shack look different but don't change how shack is played by both sides.
I'm all right with adding different foilage as long as it doesn't make it impossible to find a Blendette. But adding different junk that negatively affects gameplay for both sides isn't a good way to add aesthetic.
