The Sleepwalker - Killer concept

Hello everyone!

In contrary to the most of the killer concepts and ideas, this one is still heavily under construction since I've started with the character's appearance and fully working power is kinda difficult to think of for him. Probably a mistake but what the heck, why not! Introducing Philip, the Sleepwalker!

Short story:

Philip was a grown up child still living with his parents who weren't too keen on watching their son wasting his life and family funds on a leisure activities. One day, on the way back home Philip fell into yet another rough argument with his father, which this time resulted in a tragic car accident that the parent did not survive. Boy, on the other hand, landed in the hospital bed in a state of coma with almost no chances given to wake up; while his mother sitting beside is wishing him the worst. However conscious now, Philip walks between the planes of life and death seeking for those who cursed his name.

Power:

Concepts for the power for The Sleepwalker were meandering between:

  • changing killer's visibility depending on the distance between him and the survivor
  • reducing the field of view for survivors
  • time depanding effects; the longer it lasts the worse it gets (Game time)

Obviously gonna add more sooner or later.

Comments and ideas how to make this killer work are more than welcomed!

I appreciate the drawings and the interesting concept.

The abilities so far seem very passive, not putting the killer in control.

A ‘lag’ killer could be interesting. His special ability allows him to ‘hold his breath’ for 3-5 seconds. During this activation time his actual position goes completely invisible and he astral-projects a mirror husk of his body 3-5 meters in front, or behind his actual position.

This is a mind game mechanic were survivors potentially waste sprint burst, miss a skill check, or 360 the killer at the wrong time because they aren’t sure where the killer is.

If the astral-projection touches the survivor perhaps they scream, and have a .5 second delay in any action. The killer can only hit the survivor as the projection begins to fade and they reappear.

I love that idea! Can imagine Sleepwalker approaching survivors with the projection, causing them to waste the perk or simply freak out but it's hard to tell how navigation would work at this point. Mirrored body bumping and getting stuck in the objects could either make it obvious that it is an astral projection OR literally it creates the effect of a lagging killer, as you said at the beginning~ ..and hence the difficulty of playing that character. That's really well thought @Holijay

Also, a perk idea - When survivor misses a skillcheck on a generator, that generator is being blocked for 5 seconds. Perk activates once at a time and has a cooldown of 20 seconds.

Good point. So maybe its a power similair to Tracer in Overwatch, reversing small moments of time.

A missed attack while the skill is active reverses time by 3-5 seconds. A hit deactivates the skill for some time.

The time reversal, like Tracer only affects the killers position, not survivors.

I like the perk idea you have...but paired with hex ruin it could be a killer.

Not necessarily because hex ruin still counts as a good skill check but with a regression penalty and hexes in general usually don't last for too long. On the other hand combining it with such perks like Unnerving Presence or Overcharge that tremendously decrease the success zone - that would be a serious delay in gens progression. Would force survivors to work on the different gens instead of focusing only at the one which possibly could be blocked by missing a skill check.

About the power again.. Tracer's power from Overwatch allows her to go back in time to the spot where she was 3-5 seconds ago. However, what if this killer had an option to leave his actual body behind which creates the point of return. And those 3-5 seconds are the time period in which player may decide to either cancel the power and teleport back to the point A. or continue the chase and let that body disappear.

Or maybe since he is sleep walking, the duration gauge of the power depends on the distance traversed throughout the map without the power being turned on. In other words: The more you walk, the longer you can use your power.

Nice visualization. I like the sleepwalking mechanic no matter the final iteration.
