A Game Changing Idea for Totems that is Fair (and easy to implement)
With dull totems now contributing toward emblem power it got me thinking: If totems are tied to light bringer, then why don't the points go towards objective category? I think the answer is because they are not an objective, but rather something the killer can view as an optional strategy in order to keep an advantage against the survivors. Survivors of course are trying to get an advantage against the killer by nullifying some of their best perks.
Some killers patrol their totems along with generators, but of course have no good way of tracking the progress of these totems except with thrill of the hunt. Now many killers who like running heavy totem builds like running thrill of the hunt as it makes patrolling their hexes easier. This gave me an idea for changing the game up that I think could address some killer and survivor problems when it comes to totems.
The problem for survivors is NOED. This perk has been the subject of countless debates on these forums. Is it too strong? Is the counter to NOED practical? Is it in need of a rework? Does it mean the killer is bad if they run it? The answers to these questions respectively are: No, No, No, and Maybe. Running NOED as part of a late game build is an obvious choice, but if you run a build that slows the game down and just throw NOED on there for insurance its at best a low rank strategy if not niche in high ranks. Survivors counter to NOED is incredibly inconsistent unless its SWF on coms. If a killer wanted to guarantee the usage of NOED they could take Thrill of the Hunt to ensure that at least one totem is up by endgame, but they would have to know where their last totem is which means finding it of course. Solo survivors would also be looking for totems that are potentially already cleansed which needlessly waists time. Maps are really the only good solution for this problem.
Thrill of the Hunt as a perk is a niche solution or a staple in Totem protecting builds, however it encourages survivors to cleanse all totems in which a killer has no excellent way of protecting totems as it can easily bait them away from survivors or prevent them from Gen patrol entirely. Killers also have Ruins being lost within seconds of the game starting and it hurts unless running the Haunted Grounds with Ruin combo. However I would like to make a suggestion that I think would fix alot of the gameplay problems that we currently have with totems.
SOLUTION:
1) Give a global totem counter for survivors and the killer.
2) Have hex totems currently active notify the killer when they are being cleansed (even without TotH)
3) Have TotH highlight locations of all dull totems (in a different color), notify upon their cleansing, and have the current increasing totem cleansing time.
4) Move all Boldness points that relate to totems in survivor scoring to Objective to match Light-bringer emblem.
5) Have a new scoring event for killer that rewards protecting totems (of all kinds) and gives progress towards Gatekeeper emblem
I think that this would make Thrill of the Hunt the ultimate perk for totem protection, and it would give survivors a more efficient way to cleanse totems, while making totem patrolling for killers easier as well as giving the killer a guaranteed option to deal with pesky survivors cleansing their totems. Making it a real emblem achieving objective for survivors who like totem hunting (because they are contributing and should be rewarded for it).
Another idea I had was making the notification sound different when a survivor is cleansing a hex totem would heighten the killers focus too.
That's it so, what do people think?

This would make Nurse, Spirit, and Hillbilly far more powerful than they already are. Notifying killer of hex cleansing is significantly more game changing than you might be thinking.

If you're talking about Thrill of the Hunt, you can reduce the cleanse rate by cleansing dull totems. Cleansing dull totems against TotH doesn't give the killer a notification of where you are. Or was that second part added with the intention of making dull totems give a notification in part 1?

I like this a lot. Make it so ruin has a much better chance to last more than 5 ######### seconds
