Why was I the obsession?
I was running Spine Chill, Dark Sense, Resilience and Wake Up! against a Freddy who only had non obsession perks, like Fire Up. He also wasn't using any add ons at all.

Using an obsession perk doesn't guarantee you are the obsession, just makes it very likely. Someone else could have been running something like DS.

If there is only one decisive strike in game, owner is never the obsession, so killers know something is going on, but doesn't know what and on who. Good mechanic.

Its not a bug mate. Its mechanic to prevent killers countering ds to easly. If they want to do so they can, but they can never be sure who has it. @Andreyu44

The problem i have, is that if everyone is not running an obsession perk, there is no obsession, which means that the percentage of being obsession is zero.
If there is one player running an obsession perk in game, this instantly raises ALL players chance of becoming the obsession, but slightly more for the player running the perk.
Obsession perks should increase the percentage of who is obsession, but there needs to be an obsession without any obsession perk to influence it as well for it to make any sense, so there has to ALWAYS be an obsession. This is not the case however.
Therefore, I should have zero percentage of being an obsession without an obsession perk, regardless if another player is running an obsession perk, according to how the mechanic works when there is no obsession perk within game.

That means that if you're the only DS user in a match you should be the obsession.
Increasing the chance doesn't mean that you're not gonna be the obsession most of the time,it actually means the opposite.
Its a bug,end of the story.

As pointed out it increases the chance but its not guaranteed much like if you play a map offering there is still a random factor.
The reason for this again as pointed out is so the killer does not know who has an obsession perk like DS if they are not running any.
Its an intended feature.

No, it isn't. You simply don't understand what "increases the chance" means, it's not a guarantee to be the Obsession.
Even if DS has a multiplier of 9999 and the multiplier for the other Survivors stays at 1, there is still a tiny, but possible chance, that any of those other Survivors might end up being the Obsession.

I think its like map offerings.
They "increase the chance",but if there isn't another map offering it is a guarantee that the map offering you brought is gonna work.
Maybe its a different story for the obsession,Idk.

Because that is how the mechanic works.
And no, you also don't understand how the Map Offerings work, because they work the same as the Obsession mechanic.
Using any does NOT guarantee you that Realm. It vastly increases the chance, yes, but you can still end up in a different Realm. In my 2300 hours, I've had this happen at least half a dozen times.
You aren't being logical here, you just take your personal experience and project it as a given fact.

As Doc pointed out, you absolutely can get a totally different map if no other map offering is used. It's a small chance, but I've seen it happen many times. It's makes Mirror Myers very sad sometimes.

If only one survivor is running DS, the likelihood of that survivor being the obsession is slim. They implemented this mechanic so that if a killer decides to tunnel, they can't slug in the off chance of bypassing their perk. Now that isn't always the case, sometimes you will be the obsession with the perk.
I run it all the time, but I'm rarely the obsession. You become the obsession after successfully hitting the skillcheck though.

The chance of being the obsession for using an obsession perk is slim?
So Legion gets reworked to be nothing but CoUnTeRpLaY and DS gets reworked to make sure Killers have no CoUnTeRpLaY.

DS has a counter play don't tunnel off the hook or slug them.
It may not be perfect especially at end game but it is there and a choice you make.

So 60 seconds of immunity after getting taken off the hook for all four Survivors if someone is the Obsession? Seems fair.

How in any way is it immunity? They can still be downed again! it's a choice you eat it or wait the timer out.

That's stupid that's person not using a obsession perk can be the obsession. If you don't want the killer targeting you don't use obsession perks. Wasn't the whole point that you get a bonus with the perk at the expense of being a target.
