Unpopulair opinion: Rancor is worse than NOED.
You can cleanse the totems to counter it, you can still get unhooked or use deliverance, Borrowed time and DS help counter it.
Rancor gived you 3 advantages for being bad aswell and no disadvantage. You see the obsession, you one shot the obsession and you get moried with 0 hooks.
Rancor has no counter and ######### one guy, noed has little counters and ######### everyone. Why is Rancor still a thing?

Honestly the only real "counter" to rancor is to just go immersed and wait for somebody to open the exit gates

You can play stealthy and don't get found in the endgame. And if you get found, that doesn't mean that you have to go down.
But I understand that seeing the killer's aura everytime a gen gets done isn't a good compensation for being affected by Rancor.

it's the pity kill perk
17 -
...Is it unpopular?
5 -
I think this is well known.
2 -
No. Rancor's counter is stealth.
The Killer's aura is revealed to you throughout the game. Rancor is telegraphed from the beginning to the end of the game. The killer doesn't see the obsession, they indiscriminately see every survivor. Until end-game, it's literally a shittier version of Bitter Murmur.
The only time I'm ever killed by Rancor is when the killer literally goes out of their way to stalk me until all five gens are popped.
6 -
The game literally warns you 6 times if the killer has Rancor.
6 -
Rancor's true purpose:
find the obsession, farm with the obsession, kill them after the last gen pops, complete stupid "kill a survivor by your own hand" daily ritual.
I don't see Rancor used very often. I saw it more before the DS change, but now it's rare.

It's honestly not that good. You should be using rancor to your advantage honestly. you know she has it, you are told the very first time a generator is done. From there you can use the alerts to juke her. You're just mad. If you took the time to think it out, you'de see that it's a perk you can use against the killer, which is why most killers don't use it unless they are lvling that killer, and have no other tracking perks.

When I play Rancor, I usually make sure to find the obsession beofre the final gen pops. Hunt it and when the gen pops Bye Bye MUHAHAHAHAHA
2 -
The counter to rancor is for you to be sure you leave when the gate's open no matter what condition you're in. If you're injured, skip getting healed or healing up for points, just leave. Is someone on the hook and you're the BT bot? Not anymore, you need to leave. Most killers don't even go for the mori on Rancor they just want to force a single survivor out the gate without wasting time. If you're rancor obsession open the gate and leave or get in a locker and wait till the gate is open then leave.
Why are people so scared of having a bit of challenge in this game when it comes to killers actually being threatening?
2 -
I hate Rancor 😂 I never run obsession perks yet I always seem to get it when the perk is used. I normally hide in a locker when it's down to one gen though.
3 -
The only time I had died to Rancor was when the killer had gone out their way to hunt me down. Rancor doesn't automatically mean instant death, especially if someone else uses DS or Ghost Face's new perk. Meaning there is little chance you might die.
On top of that, it does not show survivor aura, just their last general location. It isn't accurate enough to actually help. If you find this perk worse then NoEd then you are the true reason why killer mains call survivor mains jokes.

Does jumping in a locker before the last gen is done stop the ping from Rancor?
0 -
Not that I know of. I think you just bait the ping and then sneak to a locker.
0 -
no, because it's not a scream or anything. It's just a location marker.
But since the OP is clearly upset about the perk, I will explain a bit better at how to defeat it during that crucial end game stage.
Alright, last gen pops, you are exposed. Now what?
The first thing to remember is that the killer does not know which location reveal is you. There's no special color or anything that says which of the remaining survivors is the exposed one. So the first thing to remember is that you should not be the one opening the gate. Hide nearby, and let someone else do it. When the killer shows up and chase them, do a standby, aka, finish opening the gate and leave.
If you are alone when the last gen pops, and you don't know which gate is being opened, play it safe. Find a place between both gates and hide. Wait for the EGC to start, creep to the exit, and poof.
You can also camp the hatch.
Alright, now that we got that bit of basics settled, what about using the perk against the killer?
This is also pretty simple, so once you start thinking about it, you should be able to pull it off easy. The best thing is, the higher the rank, the better this actually works. Because what the killers do tends to be more efficient, and less random.
When a gen pops you will see the killer, you;re solo survivng, what do you do? 1st i motion to myself, then point at the killer if another survivor is around. This tells even bad ranked survivors "Follow me, I see something that direction" Why do I do this? Is it to help keep my fellow survivors alive? Hell no. this is so when the killer comes to the 2 location reveals next to eachother, they have a target that isn't me. Safety in numbers.
From there, if the killer is going to pursue your reveal as their next victim, you can assume at green ranks they will bee-line to your location (go right to it) Purple and higher, they tend to go to the next closest generator to the one that just popped. Knowing that, you are going to go TOWARDS the killer. Why? Because you are going to ninja past them, and do a gen on the opposite side of the map then where they are searching.
Warning: Against Hag or Doctor, stick to the map edges to pass the killer.

Lmfao, that ritual actually is my primary use of Rancor.
1 -
I used it to deal with MoM before it was reworked recently.
Basically I go after targets that aren't hiding after the Rancor proc (95% of the time not the obsession) and then by the time the endgame starts I already have at least a 2k if not a 3k and just mori the obsession without having to deal with MoM cuz I never hit the obsession before.
0 -
Well, being honest I am sure you already know who the obsession is by the end of the match, because at least you should have followed three of four survs. The only thing that will confuse the killer is having the same survivor as another player (we can say four Claudettes for example). Actually I guess is an useless perk, just if you need to kill by your own hands and you haven't or don't want to risk a mori. Running it doesn't mean that you have an "easy kill" but is good if you run it and the survivor gets toxic, last gen pop ups and then you kill them.

I like running blood warden with Rancor, it's risky as they always want to leave immediately but if you activate blood warden and you see them trying to leave, they know they done goofed and are gonna die in most cases.
It's kinda fun and I would say unexpected except everyone knows you have it. It does need a tweak here and there to make it more devastating. Like if you Rancor obsession, the closest survivor is now Rancor and will be moriable, like a chain of order you have to follow to tear through at end game.

Lmao I interpreted the post wrong thinking, "Yeah, of course Rancor is a technically worse perk than NOED."
In all seriousness, I understand the frustration, but I'd say at least you get a warning with Rancor. NOED sometimes is a surprise or you have one totem left to cleanse, but have no idea where it is. That's a true blue ball to me. But in Rancor you can [insert aforementioned counters].
Hey, and Rancor guarantees my ass is not gonna suicide for a teammate, so there you go.
Good luck in your future games, though.

The only time I really use rancor is if I'm running a perk that requires me to leave the obsession alive.
Save The Best For Last: unless the other survivors are going to go out of their way with body blocking you usually are going to get your stacks back so I just typically get my full Stacks in and leave the Obsession to their own devices.
Furtive Chase: I've been using the perk quite a bit on the Legion and stealth doctor. Honestly it's still terrible and they really need to do way with the losing you're talking to The Obsession dies considering how conditional the perk is already but rancor helps

I've literally never been killed by rancor since Spirit's release.
Being exposed means jack ######### to good survivors.

What do you mean you See the obsession? I know the Obsession can see You (every time a gen is done), but that's about it for Aura Reading
