The optimization is pretty bad in DBD... especially for console players

trust me. Played on ps4 and pro since release on there and playing on pc was a big jump but still optimization not the best but i love the game anyway. Certainly much much better than before at least on ps4 pro. It is much smoother. Not too sure how pc struggles were.

The game is capped at 60 FPS. But you can uncap the frame rate.

Here's a simple guide for you:

I usually run between 80 and 120 FPS, depending on quality settings.

I use a 165Hz monitor on a 2080Ti and when I uncap or limit the FR (to match refresh) a few things happen... (vsync off, maxfps=165 or 999)

    1. Killers report me as being laggy and out of sync
    2. I get microstutters, even worse than the ones that happen during skillchecks and just looking around @60FPS. It takes me 3-4 matches for my eyes to get adjusted to this archaic framerate/engine programming after I play nearly any other properly designed game.
    3. Skill-checks are silky smooth though
    4. My machine will randomly hard reboot at the "initializing" screen or right after the offering screen
    5. DBD does a full file check which absolutely thrashes my SSD's (over 500MB/s read for 3-4 minutes, each time.

Just some things to keep in mind. DBD is not like games of old. It was built using a console game's model, even though it was intended for the PC. That is why there are exactly 0 options when it comes to the graphics, even though it's based off of one of the most user adjustable graphics engines to ever be created.

The hilarious part is, on the offering or loading screen, when framerate is uncapped, on a powerhouse of a system, the FPS hits about 90-100 rendering nothing but fog. just lol. Should give you some idea how lackluster the optimization is.

I've worked with DBD support and they haven the foggiest, nor do they really care from what I can tell. I just start ignoring them once the full circle of tech support hopelessness happens - aka: "please go run the userbench and reply with the results..." (even though my ticket was opened with them) At that point I know they are just replying to keep SLA down and move on to the next ticket.
