Survivors cause camping? Fine. Killers cause gen rush.
The idea seems to be that killers camp because survivors are altruistic (duh, what else are they supposed to be) and it's a legit strategy to secure kills. Cool.
Survivors gen rush because killers tunnel and camp and it's a legit strategy to survive the match.
So if you're really going to complain about gen rushing as a strategy, put your money where your mouth is an complain about camping and tunneling because that's the only reason survivors "gen rush".
What I like to do as a survivor is do totems, open chest, sabo hooks, etc. I only focus gens when I see a killer being campy and tunneling people.

Survivors reward camping and are the reason it's as big of a problem as it is right now, but gen rush is a different issue altogether that stems from an imbalance in the time it takes for both sides to accomplish their objectives.
13 -
People do things for many reasons that includes camping too. If some people say I camp because x that doesn't mean everyone is the same.
2 -
I'm sure the majority doesn't complain about survivors doing their objective (=repairing gens) but about the current situation not being changed by the devs, for example by introducing a 2nd objective for survivors.
3 -
So if DBD devs were to add a secondary objective to the game (when survival rates are already below 50%), we're to believe that killers would just go easier and provide more time for survivors to do it? If on average, less than half the survivors make it out a match as the game stands now, what would happen if survivors were forced to do something extra?
6 -
Killers who are not good at finding survivors or don't feel like patrolling gens will proxy camp.
Survivors who don't feel like doing gens will camp the hooked survivor themselves and unhook as soon as the killer is slightly out of range.
It's different for every match and the real complaint should be that survivors and killers are either too lazy or bad to know when the correct strategy should be used. It's as simple as that.
Camping/Proxy/Altruism all have their place. Direct your frustration at the stupidity or inexperience of most to know when they are.

Or in other words, if there were a secondary objective, killers would stop tunneling and camping because they'd feel the game was more "fair" for them.
0 -
Stop altogether? No. Such a thing is not possible, so if you're hoping for that, you're gonna be disappointed. However, I can guarantee they'd start trying out more so-called "meme builds" and mess around with survivors more often as the game became less frustrating for them. Y'know, like how it used to be back when the game was first released.
1 -
I have had survivors run and hide by a hook as I'm trying to hook someone on it. Of course I'm going to camp a little.
1 -
Just by reading the title (sorry too busy):
You are not wrong. If genrush is possible it's because killers allow it. Period.
4 -
Currently gens are done too fast, killers need extra time. If a 2nd objective would take too long with the current gen repair time, the gen repair time could get decreased. (And hey, wouldn't that be nice? Doing gens is not exciting. I would like it if had to spend less time repairing gens.)
1 -
No they are not and no we don't
1 -
Not a false equivalency. You brought up you're situation and I'll bring up my own.
I've had plenty of games (not outliers) where killers will camp and tunnel someone with NO gens done at all. So no, I don't accept the idea that killers only camp because they feel pressured to. That may be the case for you or for some people, but it's not even close to always being the case. A lot of killers camp because they know it forces the survivors into a crappy position: Attempt a rescue and possibly end up getting slugged or hooked yourself OR attempt to rush gens which guarantees 2 kills for the killer because as soon as that first person is dead, they're probably going to catch and camp someone else.
5 -
Of course it wouldn't stop altogether because some people just like to watch the world burn, but yeah a decrease in camping and tunneling is what I believe MOST survivor mains would agree would make this game actually enjoyable.
So if a secondary objective would accomplish that, then I'm all for it. I just don't think it would and I think killers will just take the easier 4ks and tell survivor mains to stop complaining about it and git gud.
5 -
Camping only works on dumb survivors. You see a killer camping you should be able to get away 3 gens half way if not more.
1 -
I agree, both cause each other, but don't expect killers to play dumb and run away from the hook when all 5 gens are done.
1 -
That's grossly over simplifying what happens in reality.
You don't immediately KNOW a killer is hardcore camping until you go close and see it for yourself. They may just be proxy camping, breaking gens or pallets, reloading hatchets/bottles, etc. So you have to run over there and see "will this killer chase me so someone else can go for the save."
So then you have 1 person on hook, one trying to pull the killer, and one trying to sneak around for the save. It's only when the killer refuses to chase you that you can say 100%, "this killer is camping and has no plans on leaving hook".
So no, the rest of the survivors don't have all the time in the world. They have whatever remaining time that person on hook has.
Most killers know this and use this to their advantage. Is it a strategy? Yeah, but it's a pretty scummy one.
5 -
Of course not. If all 5 gens are done and gates are open/about to be opened, go ahead and camp.
I'm mostly directing this at early first hook camping with either no gens done or maybe 1 done.
4 -
Survivors aren't at fault for genrushing, though you can't compare genrush and camping really.
3 -
But yes. Killers depend on the survivors making severe mistakes to be able to win.
2 -
For sure, people who camp and tunnel now will continue to play that way even if survivors had an additional objective. That’s why they can’t add one unless they actually put measures in place to where camping and tunneling is no longer a “strategy” at all, because they won’t be able to do it. Whether that comes from giving the killer an additional objective as well, I don’t know. But they’d certainly have to do something. If survivors can’t genrush, killers can’t killrush....simple as that!
3 -
OP just seems to want to ignore the game mechanics, game-theory and how those dynamics lead to the outcomes. Sorry but no; gen-rushing doesn't happen because of tit-for-tat over camping and tunnelling. Gen-rush(a term I don't like but am using because everyone else is) happens because long-matches tend to benefit killers.
The one time you can be sure most of the time that survivors won't focus down the gens? When someone is on the hook, so why leave? It's not because of altruism or survivors hungry to farm rescues, but because most of the time they're just not doing the gens when someone is hooked. The cause of hook-camping presents its own solution and the more it is used, the less killers who are trying to win will camp a hook.
When no one is on the hook, but gens are being done, what is the killer to do? Survivors have lobbied successfully for chases to just get longer and longer, with this being masked by a chase-detection system that isn't fit for purpose, giving the devs the impression in their data that lots of short chases are happening.
Survivors have always had a counter which they refuse to use. Killers have never had a counter to gens being focused because they can't be in multiple places at once, yet what means we have to shorten chases(the other side of the coin in this debate that keeps getting over-looked) keep getting reduced all the time. Chases are designed to be fun for survivors, not killers.

As a solo survivor, I'm usually on a generator in the first 5 seconds of the game, while I watch other survivors (through Bond) opening chests, cleansing dull totems, crouching and hiding around for no reason, tea-bagging each other.
Want to know part of the reason why the average survival rate is low?
It's because people waste time in this time management game. Instead of threatening "gen-rush" on the forums, if players actually "gen-rush"ed like they are actually supposed to do, I guarantee you that the survival rate would sky rocket and show how unbalanced this game really is in favor of Survivors.
2 -
Why would it take 2 people for an unhook ?
1 -
If the game starts with four survivors, the Killer is at a sizable disadvantage. They tunnel to secure easy map pressure because gens go by so quickly. If I start a game, I assume that a gen will be done in roughly a minute and a half to a minute flat. I need to get at least one hook if not two in that time. Stop pressuring Killers to be ultra efficient and they might stop killing you so quickly. Regardless, this whole discussion is silly because both are part of the game. If you don't like it, oh well.

i just got face camped. All i did was juke the chainsaw
1 -
Can we please get a skin with this on a shirt
2 -
xD its like he got mad as if i'm supposed to let him hit me with it. So got face camped for all 4 gens and two others still got caught and sacrificed in the end.
0 -
Gen rushing exists because Killers are not equipped to cause enough map pressure. That is why chasing 1 Survivor can cause 1 or 2 Gens to go off, the other Survivors are not pressured at all so they have complete freedom to do their Objective.
This game needs something to help equip the Killer to cause more havoc in the match and slow Gens, this is why Ruin is favored by most Killers.
In theory, Legion, Doctor, and Pig can tackle these problems and slow down the game but they each have their own major faults that still make them mid to low tier Killers.
I still believe having 2 other ways to open the Exits is what this game needs. Each match can randomly switch between repairing Gens and the other two options. It will create variety and the constant change can possibly keep Survivors on their toes as their strategy and their coordination could be dimmed.
3 -
Then why do i never camp or tunnel, but i always get genrushed? 🤔
1 -
For the same reason i get camped and/or tunneled even when we don't genrush.

This is how children bring up arguements
