Unlocking FPS bannable or not? Easy Anti cheat says not from their side what do the devs say?
A while back i asked the Devs if unlocking your FPS via file changing is bannable or not this is what the Devs said:
Peanits answer and i quote:
"Editing any files risks triggering the anti-cheat, and if that happens, we wouldn't be able to help you. More than likely, it would just tell you that something was modified and refuse to start if anything. We would not actively hunt you down and ban you for doing so, though.
It's use at your own risk, unfortunately I can't give a more specific answer than that. Nobody has been banned for unlocking their framerate so far."
So i asked Easy anti cheat and they said this:
The problem with the Easy Anti Cheats and Peanits answer is they both point to the other for clarification. This is not an clear answer which i hope we can get.
So can we now get a clear answer from the devs if its bannable or not? @Patricia @not_Queen @Clyde @Peanits

I would blackout your email address tho, unless you don't mind to get spammed sooner or later.
Furthermore, it feels like both companies have big issues to communicate with each other and set up rules for the player community. I mean it's already silly enough that bhvr STILL has these barbaric settings for the consumer. U can't even turn off vsync ingame, so stupid.
However, editing stuff in GameUserSettings.ini should be absoluty safe, to many people are doing it since release and noone got ever banned. It would also hurt bhvr to much if anyone got banned for that. Streamers are one big source for new players which keeps this game alive. And all streamers unlocked fps. Imagine they all got banned. Would be gg for DbD.

I expect this response.
Atm they may not actively go after people who do this but that may change at anytime so if you end up with a ban they wont help you. These things are as always a use at your own risk.

The answer can't be definite as if it changes then either the devs or easy anti cheat have to change their stance on it.
If right now they havent it's the answer doesn't change but neither side knows if that may change in the future if they do decide it gives an unfair advantage. So the answer to modifiying any game file will always be to do it at your own risk.

Thats the problem no one wants to give a clear answer and just points to the other side. Also the option for unlocked FPS should be a game option it takes no time to program and there is no reason to not have it on the PC version.
I hope we can get a more clear answer this time but i am not exactly expecting it.
p.s. i edited my original post to make it more clear for future readers.

I mean, why is fps locked in the first place. It's not like dark souls when 30+ fps breaks the engine.

Better question is why there is almost no graphic option in game?
I need to edit GameUserSettings.ini to unlock fps
I need to chance my Windows resolution to match the desired in game
I need to run Nvidia filters to set gama and details
Welcome in 2019...

Yeah It's really insane. Even games like call of duty 1, a game many years old had so much more options.

Generally it's not liked if you fiddle around with files like that, but the short answer is: Use at your own risk.
The long answer: If EAC ever decides to change anything and you get banned, we can't help you out. In addition to that, if you tamper with the files in any other way for a advantage, you'll be punished accordingly.
So it's a very "use at your own risk" type of deal.

I don't think it's that they don't want too it's just there is no clear answer as right now it's fine but that can always change.
It all depends on the engine and how the game is coded.
Take some fps games where unlocking the fps can give a greater latency advantage the same could be said for this game.
As they have said right now they have no plans to go after people who do it but the default could be set to stop those who could run it at 200fps having some advantages.
I remember setting my cod to max out at 333fps as it enabled me to jump to spots others couldn't in maps for example.
The article at the bottom sums up how fps can give and advantage in say a battle royal game. If unlocking it in the future is deemed to give too much of an advantage the devs may change their stance and if not we'll you are safe but it will always be a use at your own risk as with engine updates, new dlcs and mechanics coming to the game who knows that may be affected by it in the future.
While DBD is not an fps game faster frames atm can still enable you to also see things better much like lowering the resolution which is why dbd has limited options to change compared to other games.
Modifying any game file will always be at your own risk, It's just how it is and will always be.

The picture fits perfectly.
We really need the devs to step up to give a clear answer. Or better just give us the option to uncap the fps in the game. It takes less then 5 min to implement. There is no excuse to not do it.
