Wiggling is Pointless
I've had killers carry me nearly half way around the map and I still can't wiggle out. The devs have made it so if you are about to wiggle out as soon as you're hooked the hooking goes through rather than wiggling out of the killers grasp. Today I managed to fill my wiggle bar BEFORE the killer hooks me and I still didn't get to escape. There is simply not enough space between hooks to make wiggling worth while even with Boil Over. Killers get the advantage every time unless they are blinded or stunned by a pallet.

the only time I have ever been able to wiggle out is if the killer suddenly got dementia and couldn't remember what hooks looked like and just wandered from one to the next... or if the entire team was there to force them to swipe about... but yea... wiggling is only there to prevent a hostage situation.

I could be wrong, but I don't think wriggling is meant to be reliable.
It really only works if your teammates risk hits distracting/bodyblocking the Killer. I think it's supposed to be this way, but I could be wrong.

You aren't really supposed to wiggle out. If you get caught, then you get caught. It's really there to provide a barrier against abuse by the killer. If there was no wiggle meter then killers would be keeping survivors as hostage all the time. It's also there to help make breaking hooks somewhat viable. But if the killer catches you and there aren't any broken hooks or multiple survivors willing to body block then you are supposed to get hooked.

Until hook sabotaging becomes meta again, yeah there’s not much point in wiggling, unless you’re relatively close to the basement.

Oh don't say that. As a Killer I find wiggling to be great fun. Picking up a dropped victim and running around with them on my shoulder until they wiggle free of my grip and I get to chase them down again. It's one of my favourite things.

If there was no wiggling, then Agitation would be severely buffed. Also basement hooks forever.

For the last time, Wiggling is supposed to save you from end up in basement. You cannot always wiggle out buddy.

I almost never wiggle out but there are perks that can help. My buddy used to main Ash before they nerfed MoM and he wiggled out more than anyone else. If you wanted to try to wiggle more for the laughs, you could use Boil Over, Flip Flop, Tenacity, and Unbreakable. I usually die on my first hook as a solo survivor so I've thought about running that build just to see if it would work, but it wouldn't be something I did more than once in a while for the laughs.

I mean if it was any easier for survivors to wiggle out, that wouldn't be fair. Killers lose so much time if a survivor is able to escape a killers grasp.

The game doesn't lie, he managed to press the button for the hook before you had your meter full.

Yes it seems like it’s meant to keep you out of the basement or just being carried by a agitation mad grit killer

Not by itself, but if fellow survivors can get the killer to swing once or twice?

Another!
It's fine, go ahead and stop wiggling since it's useless. I'll just set you up in my nice little basement every time. :>

It used to happen all the time when I first started playing, like the first several months, but now it never happens unless I get like 3 body blocks

Wiggling out is designed to force the killer to put you near the closest hook. A hook which may or may not favor him as much as the hook and certainly the basement beyond it
It's not meant to be a escape unless your team stops him or the killer misjudges the distance. You shouldn't be expecting or hoping you can wiggle out of the killer's grasp by yourself. Same with a killer that expects he can eat through all the pallets in the map before the generators go. The game is designed to prevent this

This also give buffed for basement bubba

It'd be nice if our characters could auto wiggle once picked up. I'm tired of swinging my joystick around in circles.

You aren't meant to wiggle out without assistance, whether it be bodyblocking, blinds, saboutage or perks.
Wiggling is to ensure the killer can't; a. hook you in the basement every single time, and b. carry everyone into one area and hook them to camp them all at once.
In the same sense that you can run perks to help you wiggle off like Flip Flop and Boil over, killers can run things to assist them while carrying you like Iron Grasp and Agitation, so it's not as simple as "run perks, guarantee wiggle."
The base game is balanced around winning 12 chases for 12 hooks, not 20+ chases so you can wiggle off every other time.

Doesn’t even have to be a basement hook.
Yes we will all agree that the basement is the #1 choice. But it is situational.
Example, if I’m playing long range killer like Nurse, Billy, Spirit, Huntress, Hag (with Add-Ons); it will be much more strategic to place you on a hook in the open, away from strong loops, where visibly seeing a rescuer’s scratch marks from a distance can work to my advantage.
Another example: EGC. It is always in the best interests of the killer to hook someone as far from the exits as possible. This way if a save is made, the killer has the advantage of map space to down the rescuer or tunnel vision the original hooked survivor.
Saying wiggling is pointless is complete idiocy, it’s to force the killer to hook you where he can, and not where he wants to.

Wiggling isn't supposed to be a reliable out. It's supposed to limit the killer to hooking you to the first or second nearest hooks. Without wiggling, the killer could basement hook anyone. If wiggling was any more powerful, there could be safe areas on certain maps / all maps, ESPECIALLY if someone has been sacrificed (destroyed hook) in the area that survivors could run to before they were downed to essentially be unhookable.

In order to help myself get better chances of wiggling out I like to run a loadout of Flip-Flop, Boil Over, Tenacity and Unbreakable. It mostly only works if a killer decides to slug me, but if they leave me alone for just a few seconds, it greatly increases my chances of getting out.

It is called animation lock. I see, you don't have a deep understanding of videogames.
The killer pressed his space before you wiggled free and so started the booking animation (this also the snapping in place while hooking)
As a survivor you can take advantage of this during pickup animation and pallet breaking to blind the killer if you memorize the animation.
The same animation lock can issue hits, like at pallets. If your hitbox yet have to traverse a pallet or window, thus wanky hits (plus latency).
At least you can use your DS after the unhook.

Wiggling has saved me on a couple occasions. I had one match against a Hag who used all the hooks nearest the exit gate. She tried three times and couldn't reach a hook before I wiggled free, and I finally managed to make it out.
Wiggling isn't really supposed to free you, though. It's just supposed to prevent the killer from carrying you around indefinitely and always putting you in the basement. The map should not have a lot of safe areas from where it's impossible to get a survivor to a hook, because that is where survivors would always run to during the match. It would be unhealthy for the game. Playing killer, I've had survivors realize there was a spot on the map from which it was impossible to reach a hook, and they'd escape my grasp and immediately run back to that spot. I can't really blame them, but it's frustrating as hell from the killer's perspective, and it definitely isn't something that should happen with any frequency.

That is if the killer isn't reading you a bed time story while you're on the hook.

Awww such a nice killer, dropping everything to read you a bedtime story and make sure non of the other will come and taking advantage of your helpless situation by fondle you at the hook. What a great protector. And in the end, mama entity comes and embraces you in her clawy arms to send you to bed. She may accidentally poke you because of clumsiness and silly animation. But we all love you and wish you well.

Yeah and you wonder why killer lobbies take 15 minutes or more to find a game, psssst nobody likes being camped.

You're not supposed to be able to wiggle off on your own (not without flip flop at least). Wiggling is only there so the killer can't carry you to the basement every time you get downed.
1 -
To be fair, you are wiggling pretty slow. Also, use flip or flop, tenacity, and unbreakable if you want to piss off a lot of killers.

Without other survivors or team mates getting in the way, I am sure I have only wiggled out a handful of times in the year I have played, most of those happen against noonish killers or killers that catch me at a dead part of a map. The idea that wiggling is supposed to let you escape is silly, if anything it pressies the killer to get you to a hook as fast as possible, as opposed to putting you on a hook that is advantageous to his play.

You need to ask yourself why the killer has to carry you so far in the first place.
0 -
Does anyone know if there's a speed limit on wiggle? I've been tempted to butcher an old electric toothbrush to make a supersonic a+d masher for the lols

the wiggle feature was not implemented to let you escape from the kilelrs grasp, but to restrice the killers ability to choose a hook for you. without this feature, you would end up in the basement every single time. the killer won the chase and downed you, so he should get his reward : a hook to get his objective done.
if there was any spot on a map where the killer wouldnt be able to hook you, guess where 95% of the survivors would go down?
another thing is, if survivors are guaranteed to get off the shoulder, the killer wont even bother picking them up and rather slug them and let them bleed out, which is unfun for both sides.
with other words: it is not pointless at all and working perfectly fine.

Wiggling isn't meant to be a life saver every time. If you get caught and hit twice, you should be thankful the game even gives you the ability to wiggle. If you want wiggling to matter, bring an anti-slug build and go sabo with a group of friends.
1 -
If you think wiggling is pointless, then please, stop wiggling. Killers everywhere will thank you for it.
I stopped wiggling for a little over a second because I thought the killer would take the nearby hook. Instead I wound up in the basement, with a fraction of a second of wiggle time remaining.
Wiggling is supposed to prevent the killer dragging you to the basement every single time. It's not supposed to guarantee you escape.
