I'm Sorry
But this game just isn't my thing anymore.
Now I'm not here to tell them, the devs, what to do: It's doing more than fine in terms of community size, but arguably more important, the size is fairly consistent.
But the fun has faded so much I can barely see it, and I feel it still keeps fading.
And it might be unevitable it will fade completely, but it still is a shame: Trying this beta was a discovery I don't make often, it felt like a whole new thing and I was enjoying it a lot.
Perhaps too much as I played only this and burnt out rather hard after 1500 hours.
Anyway, this isn't a goodbye post, but moreso a see-ya' post.
There's enough games that I LOVE to revisit after a while, and some of them even become regular games of mine again.
Of course certain things I don't like won't ever go away, or go through a fundamental change, and that's fine, but the way that those things currently are keeps pushing me away.
And it's not like I can ignore it: Everyone does it and the devs support it greatly.
I assume some people will view this as if I'm overreacting, and hey, maybe I am.
But it's still not fun to me, and games should be fun to play.
Also probably doesn't help that I main Wraith, but he's just the most fun to me, which is ironic cause, y'know, not anymore.
I'll probably play it every now and then: Start it up once every 4 days or once a week to clear dailies, stuff like that.
Honestly, I thought I played Left 4 Dead 2 too much, which is just below 900 hours.
I definitely got my money out of this. 😆
Is the game just as much fun to you as when you started?
More?
Less?
Why?

Well see ya, hope you'll come back every now and then. To me the game is still fun, not as much as when I started, but still fun

The game isn't as fun as when I first started, I cannot play as much as I did due to levels of frustration and stress it causes, when playing video games should be a stress relief.
Its difficult to learn a new killer when the matchmaking is terrible.

I’m sure you have better things to do and I mean that in a positive way: get some sun by playing in a club sport or dust off that instrument you never really got around to. Either way I’m sure this game will still be here once you grow in life and as a person some more.

Always a good idea to put something aside once it stops being fun for you. I wish you luck in the gaming world dude!

@Boss For the majority part, I walked away from PvP-only games about two months ago. This went for Overwatch, Heroes of the Storm, Paladins, Realm Royale, and Dead by Daylight.
See, before Overwatch launched in 2016, I didn't play PvP outside of the occasional MMO PvP as a side thing. But I loved Overwatch and the characters, and next thing I knew I was also messing around in the previously mentioned titles by 2018.
Three years later of playing mostly PvP games, and I realized I was done. For one, none of them are balanced worth a damn, and honestly they never will be. For another, I realized they are titles that start out as a ton of fun, but as time marches on they inevitably degrade into stress-inducing activities where I start out playing relaxed on a given night, and end the night more tilted and ticked-off than I should be.
I went back and revisited Borderlands 2. I revisited City of Heroes again via CoH: Homecoming. Hell, I've even putzed around in Roblox with my 9-year-old. I might even go visit Azeroth again.
For me, I'm fairly sure I am finished with PvP-only games moving forward. I find myself visiting the DbD or Overwatch forums more out of nostalgia than for any true desire to play again.

Destiny was like this for me.
I stopped playing in early Year 3, which was when I moved on to SOD2, FT13, and Destiny 2.
The game is rather close to moving into it's 6th year, and still going strong. I started back early Year 5.

Glad to see understanding people here. 🙌

I think I've been like that with every game pretty much. I used to play so much Path of Exiles then I go through phases where I don't touch it for months. I think it's healthy to take a break from something for a while, especially if you are not enjoying it so much recently.
I hope you'll still check in with us on the forums though @Boss I like reading what you have to say.

I know what you mean. I also lost the special fun in dbd because the developer decide to design their game more and more into a soft game and do balance changes around it. Soft, slightly, decent, a lil bit of everything. More and more the devs know their game and its possibilities and because of that they did fixes and adjustments, not even for balance reasons which made the game more and more sterile and boring ^^
yea they add headon but yea..
im still playing it because i try to play how the GAME wants how to play. Back in the days I decide how I play and I won. Now there are so many rules and things and since I sold my dbd soul Im pretty successfull but thats all. Also this will be the first chapter I wont buy. I also stopped buying cosmetics (bought soooooo much, maybe 75% of all) and yea
i give this game maybe 2 dlcs and if major things doesnt change I quit. And Im not the person who needs to be pissed off or sth to quit a game. I dont see any hope of major changes to major problems I just leave because it doesnt make any sense. And dbd doesnt make any sense to me anymore. So I wait, drink some coffee, look whats happening and if the devs (and that's probably not a if, I guarantee it) doesnt change (things, their mind) Im outta here. :/
But have a great time enjoying other stuff. Many dbd members wished they had some alternate games to dbd. So enjoy your life and cya out there in the world of gaming o/

Well that's kind of you. 😭
I've always been here a lot, it's just that lately there wasn't really a conversation i wanted to join.
And, you know, because of this post's origins.

Less, because of balancing and me being at 1000+ hours

you list no reasons for why the fun faded. i have played over 2 years and had a blast. what has made it less fun is the inability to dodge. once a killer is in a certain proximity, you're screwed. unless you love running in circles in a show of "skill" (i don't), running is largely useless. also, being chased off the hook every game is the biggest buzzkill. even with borrowed time active and decisive strike, i'm still tunneled almost every game. i play a lot less these days. still love the game but just not much time for it anymore.
thankful for endgame collapse though as killer. best idea to date as most games as killer i had to quit because of game being held hostage.
i have not quit even one game as killer since egc was implimented. huge thank you to the devs.

I do care a lot.
I'd probably still care even if i completely quit.
Because this game has been growing a LOT, not just on our side, but on the devs' side too.
And i've been there since the game's infant days, i feel like i helped it grow. (Albeit i probably helped like 0.01% or smthn.)
The team is what, 3 times bigger now?
Plus there's a bunch of licenses on this now.
Feels weird to say it, but i guess i'm proud?
I mean, the team was extremely questionable at times (I'm looking at you, Howling Grounds), but the game's absolutely in a much better place balance-wise.

I avoided naming reasons for my growing dissatisfaction towards the game to in turn avoid talking about it.
I didn't want this to turn into a discussion on why i should like something i deem not fun, or at least accept something i deem not fun.
EDIT: One thing that would definitely help me have more fun again is to have more to do.
And i don't mean grinding for Perks, cause grinding is still grinding.
I mean that Daily Rituals just aren't enough, i want more goals than just 1 tiny challenge for 1 tiny reward per day.
I can make my own goals or challenges, but you run out of those more quickly than you'd think. (Plus i of course won't do goals or challenges that aren't fun to me.)
