I don't understand why devs have such a terrible time making a decent matchmaking system?
I just don't get it. Talk about balancing all you want, I'd say matchmaking takes the cake. And yet, for whatever reasons, devs just cannot get a handle on it. Why? What makes it so difficult to get a halfway decent matchmaking system in place? I know SWF throws a monkey wrench in it, when you can drag low/high ranks into things and screw over killers/solo survivors, but at it's core, why is it broken? Why do red ranks appear often in low rank killer queues? Or low rank survivors against a high rank killer? As it stands, why have a rank system at all when matchmaking apparently throws it out the window?

Pretty good job so far

I was with some friends, we were all lower ranks (some green, yellow, and brown but at least two of us had hit Rank 1 on survivor multiple times in the past)
and we matched up with a Rank 20 killer with 1.0 hours in the game..
Pretty good job so far.
I felt really bad when he hooked me and this brand new Trapper attempted to place traps everywhere around me for over a minute staring at me in the face and just losing emblem points without having any clear way for the game to tell them 'This is NOT what you should be doing right now'.

They need a better tutorial, something that teaches killers about pressuring gens. Something that suggests focusing on hooking more survivors is usually better than focusing on killing one survivor. Pressure gens, spread the pain, keep them all on their toes. But there's nothing in the game to teach that.
Not having a tutorial that teaches tactics for killers and survivors makes having matchmaking that keeps new players grouped with other new players a priority. No in-depth tutorial on top of broken matchmaking means new players are pretty much guaranteed to have a miserable time. It's not fair on them at all.

Yeah I have about 600 hours in the game and about half of the killers near max level and I still hate playing Killer most of the time. It's been so long since I've played killer that I'm back at rank 20.. so it will be easy for me but I still have anxiety trying to do it even though I know what to do and watch DBD gameplay on YT pretty much daily.

Bonus points if you can elaborate on how keeping themselves in low ranked play where they win more, farm more BP, and have much more fun is not what they should be doing as opposed to moving towards rank 1 and doing the opposite in all three of the aforementioned.
Survivors gain something by moving up ranks in so far as having better teammates. Killers gain absolutely nothing.
Don't just state "because" as that misses the point. There is nothing to gain but long queues and headaches from being a rank 1 killer. There isn't even bragging rights as it resets each month and no one cares what rank you are.

Entirely possible one of the people in my group has intentionally deranked but it's not something I like to do. I like to get to the higher ranks but usually I don't play the game enough every month to get that high anymore.
Usually I find it funner to watch the game being played on YT these days which maybe says something about the state of the game.
But I agree that Survivors USUALLY gain something with getting better teammates as they get higher in ranks. Sadly Killers just gain more stress and anxiety the higher up they play.
Why I'm kind of excited to go back to playing Killer now that I've reset back to Rank 20 after so many months because I know it will be fun and not a complete stress-fest.
