Why Steve Harrington is the male survivor in DBD and not Jonathan Bryers?

I'm currently watching Stranger Things, I'm in Season 1 Ep. 7/8 and, at the moment Steve haven't faced the Demogorgon or seen it, and as long as I know the Demogorgon die in Season 1, so for me the presence of Steve in DBD have no sense and Jonathan make more sense for me. Jonathan is the brother of the kidnapped boy, know the existence of the Demogorgon and tried to face it.

@IamFran I agree with you, I think Jonathan is a more focal character but people seem to be fanboying over Steve's hair so they overlook how mediocre his role is in Stranger Things.

Sure, Steve does grow into the show but so does Jonathan and it was the louder fans who wanted Steve who made it Steve and not Jonathan, Joyce or Hopper.

Personally I don't mind Steve, he has a fun outfit but Nancy just feels like an empty shell, there's no personality about her, she has bland outfits and it just feels more like generic girl from the 80s than a determined woman who is trying to solve a case.

Why are you asking this question?

No, seriously. Dont you think there could be a reason, why they went with Steve? You know, a reason (or many reasons in that case) you have not discovered so far?

Watch all 3 Seasons, and come back later ;)

    SPOILER: ITS AWESOME! :P

It's true you just put your fanboying ahead of logic.

Steve's role grew on par with Jonathan and maybe towards the last episode was more involved but before that it was Jonathan doing the bigger role and I don't see why he won't continue to do so.

I noticed you're using one of Steve's 10 quotes to prove your point, it just shows how insignificant Steve is as of yet.

You might get annoyed with what I say is my opinion and it just happens that people share my opinion so we shouldn't be told we are wrong because people who like Steve would do anything to give Steve a good image. Steve is meh, Jonathan is slightly better.

    "Mild spoiler warning"

Steve's character actually grows over the seasons especially late season 2 and throughout season 3 where he is more part of the overall storyline.

Johnathan was great in season 1 but imo his character starts to taper off as it goes on especially in the last season where he just seems there to prop up Nancy's story line.

Plus we needed a scoops ahoy cosmetic which you will realise as you continue to watch the show 😉.

Ok maybe I should have watched the entire season before starting this thread, but after a nule interaction between the Demogorgon and Steve in 7 episodes I didn't expect to see a plot twist in the last episode making more sense for his presence in DBD. xD

I think Hopper and Joyce are without a doubt the most important characters and I think that is undisputable. You've got to be mad to disagree.

I think the problem with Hopper (and tons of other potential future characters from other IPs), is that we already have a police officer. So many horror films have a police character...

Joyce would need to be tripping balls. Maybe a permanent effect from the Clown's afterpiece tonic?

Not really... I do these "yeah...no" because of michael kyle from "my wife and kids" or something like that, not sure of the shows name in english.

Also, keep watching. See if jonathan is really more involved than steve later on

As I've tried to explain multiple times to you, Steve has an arc that grows throughout ALL three season. Seriously, tell me, what did Jonathan do in Season 3 that was notable?

    SPOILERS

He was just there to be Nancy's boyfriend and to fight with her in a scene and then make up the next. Steve, however, was the leader of the Scoops Troop and was responsible for saving the town from the Commies and saved the gang from Billy.

Jonathan is more supportive in Nancy’s plot line than all else. Not to mention, Nancy did save Johnathan’s life. Fire Hydrants for the win!

Jonathan was more important than Steve in season 1, but in Season 2 and up Steve was the more important character. By Season 3 Jonathan is just an annoying brat and Steve is the real star. Jonathan basically just became a prop for Nancy. Who herself is an annoying brat.

And even in Season 1 Jonathan was always an annoying character with no charisma or appeal. Steve was always the more interesting character.

Why would you say something so controversial yet so brave?

You said the truth and sometimes the truth hurts.

Just calling it like I see it, hahah.

Will is the more interesting sibling of the Byers Bros.

I hate to see how badly Jonathan and Nancy fell in Season 3. Their lover's quarrel is not something interesting to watch and to make it worse the two have zero chemistry.

Jonathan was great in Season 1. He came out as a kind of creep with zero charisma, but he was endearing in how he was so dedicated to saving his brother. That made him admirable. But after season 2 started that character arc of his was done and his lack of screen presence and charisma wears on you. It then gets traded in for being the insecure boyfriend who doesn't have it together and just vents his problems out on his girlfriend. Nancy herself and her season 3 girl power arc was just annoying to watch and when coupled with Jonathan's worthlessness made the two of them 100% yuck. Actually made me hate both of them.
