New matchmaking
So basically i can no longer play with friends.
Im rank 1 and they are brown rank potatoes so even when we got noob killers 1-2 dies.
But now if i play with them we get my kind of killers and they, and me dont stand a chance. after several games of 4K 4-5 gens i have been sent on a deranking spree until i can play with them again.
This is a major issue since they are getting really fedd up with constantly getting stomped and i can't even be there to guide them.
I must admit the killer main in me is a littlebit glad, but there needs to be a middle point or something if theres 3 red ranks and 1 brown rank fine give them a good killer, but if im running with 3 browns there's absolutely no way thats fair. give us the average rank of the group.

Welcome to the same discussion that been going on for days now.
Like EVERY OTHER competitive, you're friends aren't playing at your level, so you should play a different game if you want to play with them.
3 -
Dead by daylight is not a competativ game, its a casual party game that is played with friends. Saying i cant play with friends because i played more than them is not a good marketing strategy.
17 -
Oh, you must have found that game mode that doesn't put you against a killer, or a set of 4 survivors.
0 -
If you want it to be a casual party game, I suggest you and your friends play the Custom Mode.
2 -
You are antipathic.
Dbd is a casual game, even if there are "ranks" that are just an input to prove you play a lot.
9 -
Dead by daylight is to broken in survivors favour to ever be a competetive game, i mean of course you are competing against each other but it will never be E sports competetive.
But honestly people that is saying this new matchmaking is fine or in your case say i SHOULDN'T play with my friends have no friends...
6 -
You can chose try to play it casually, but IT IS a competitive game. Its one player VERSUS four other players. If thats not the idea of competition to you, then you need to look up the definition.
If he wants to play with his friends in a NOT COMPETITIVE game there are plenty on the market. Diablo, Borderlands, etc.
The minute you start going against other people, especially people you don't know (which is why I suggested they do custom games), its by definition competitive, and its not fair to your opponent or other random teammates to suggest otherwise.
2 -
A game doesn't need to be E-Sports level to be competitive. If this game wasn't competitive, we wouldn't have a forum where 90% of the posts are about this or that being OP, or broken, or unfair. You'd have a forum of people going, "I totally got DSed yesterday, and it was fun, because I just play casually and don't let this bother me." "I don't mind hex ruin, because doing generators is fun and the more I get to stand by one the better. Its so relaxing and casual."
1 -
If ranks were just an input to say you play a lot, this guy wouldn't be making his complaint. Obviously they mean something, or it wouldn't bother him that he and his friends are going against higher ranks.
0 -
You play a game to have an experience and have fun.
The old matchmaking was bad. But the new one is not better.
Bhvr should just add a debuff to higher ranks of a squad, just like in Dark souls.
4 -
Tell your friends to stop being potatoes or get better friends. Better yet, just drown all your relationships in a beautiful, purifying, fiery monsoon. You'll live longer ;)
0 -
Just like all of us "killer mains".
1 -
So i guess you think it is fair then that a severeal thousand hour player is faced up against 3 newcomers and 1 veteran because one of them has played the equal amount that the killer has...
3 -
I agree 100%, on all 3 accounts.
The new system makes it hard for SWFs of varying ranks to play together, but I stand by the fact that they get to CHOOSE to play in those ranks. They know what to expect. The killer did not get to make that choice.
Not sure how debuffing higher ranks would work - this game has such simple mechanics, tweaking any of them could have pretty drastic effects on the game.
And it still won't solve the deranking problem, which we're now seeing more of too. The problem is they just don't have a reason to stay at the higher ranks.
2 -
"E-sports worthy" and just "competitive" are two different bars. If players are playing against each other for the sake of climbing up the ranks, even if that rank is just for the sake of showing off a number and icon, that is enough to be "competitive" in my book.
1 -
Hey man, I have the exact same issue as you do. I created a thread about this earlier today, with the suggestion to introduce a new gamemode for "casual" play.
If there are no ways for me to play with my friends we will have to find another game to play. They are simply no having fun in the current version of SWF.
4 -
Based on queue times, I don't think this game has a large enough player base on each platform to support another mode. Be nice if PS4 and XBox (and Switch - I imagine different graphics capabilities would put them at a disadvantage) could play together. Maybe that is closer to working when dedicated servers come about.
Update: Its in top 10 of Steam though, so I could be wrong.
0 -
You can still play with your friends. It just they will most likely die faster against a rank equivalent to your own rank. I play swf with my friends way before they introduce this matchmaking. We usually just messed around and we still do after this matchmaking. There are various perks they can used I usually tell my friends to run a quiet build to avoid chases. For that matter it whatever fit their playstyles. If you're lucky you might get a killer that noticed them not doing any fancy looping.
0 -
Pretty sure the playerbase will drop and we'll see the old matchmaking back in less than 2 weeks.
Its not that hard honestly. Debuff based on a % for all actions calculated by the rank difference, and limit the perks to tier 1. That kind of stuff.
2 -
So who should get the short end of the stick? The single player or the team?
No more bullying new killer for you I guess
0 -
That kind of attitude is the reason this community is so toxic. I brought in three new friends to play the game with, and simply because im showing them the ropes that is bullying? Bullying is ussually 3 red ranks with flashlights and t-bagging and running the killer around for ages. I usually stay in the background and just come in when im really needed.
But hey guess im the toxic one.
3 -
Probably won't happen cause if they did that then low rank/new players will most likely get bullied by higher rank players again :(
0 -
From a company perspective, better keep the majority of cash making players aka survivors ;]
1 -
True but low ranked survivors will most likely leave:( But I do agree on what your saying:)
1 -
Lovely how these people suggesting...
“go play another game if you want to play with your friends” “tell your friends to get better”
Are the same ones claiming they were getting bullied in a video game.
So I guess it’s ok as long as it’s not happening to YOU. Right?
Double standard on the forums strikes again.
6 -
If you are redcrabk survivor you should NEVER play against new killers, that's it
1 -
There were certainly SWF groups that were bullying the lower rank players. But even if they weren't being toxic, going against a group thats highly coordinated, knows how to loop well, and is just playing to the best of their abilities but is WAY better than you, isn't much fun either. One can only take so many "learning experiences" before they decide to just move on.
Again, broken record here, but its about choice and expectation management. SWF groups CHOSE to SWF group. They know what to expect. Killers didn't get that benefit.
0 -
I seem to recall released stats about the game. If i'm remembering correctly...it showed that SWF was just a small percentage of matches...
Again, if I'm remembering correctly and not being senile...Why should matchmaking be skewed in favor of SWF?
1 -
I'm personally fine with this change. My friends and I always take breaks from the game so we'll be lower ranks when we get back into the game, and it's a struggle to verse killers at the ranks we should be at because we make mistakes of course, but we also get those clueless teammates that are no help the entire match, causing us to basically carry them. And since I play solo I rank up a bit, so now when I play with my friends we can have slightly better teammates and not feel bad for the killers.
1 -
From a company perspective, they already got dem moneys thanks to the Stranger Things DLC, and the whales will continue to be whales.
1 -
This is why the matchmaking was partly changed as it works both ways and was being abused.
If the game is not competative and is casual what difference then does it make for your friends to die more often?
Think about what you said about a 1k hour killer. A survivor could also have 1k hours and party with someone who had 20 hours so the killer may not have a fun match.
The main difference is choice. You or your friends can chose to party and learn versus the better killers or they can party up with the other 2 While they learn against lesser skilled ones until they reach a point they can play with yourself.
People need to stop purley thinking about their own fun in this scenario and realise a killer who has 50 hours at rank 12 paired with the 1000 hour survivor wasn't fun for them.
1 -
Play custom matches. You don't need a full group for it. You guys can have fun playing non-competitively in custom matches, or you can teach your less-skilled friends how to loop and what not.
1 -
@MisterCremaster I never once said that there aren’t survive a friend groups that are toxic, but I also believe that just because someone wants to play with their friend should not be punished to play against someone who is three times higher rank in more experienced than they are.
Because if bullying was the reason you had a problem with how it was before in the first place, You would have a problem with the low rank survivor playing against a higher rank killer too.
Personally as a killer I don’t want to be facing rank 17’s simply because they chose to play with their friends .

I like the way R6 has "ranked" and "casual" game modes. By myself I can play ranked and with friends I don't have to worry.
Why can't we have this in Dbd? To say go play "custom" isn't fair because you don't get the BP and if they did change it then folks would just manipulate the system to farm BP.
By separating the 2 modes like this we'll see what other games have already benefited from.
This is what the 2 game modes, I think will do for us, Ranked vs Casual:
1) you can still play with your friends and get points
2) deranking and getting OP players at Green/Purple ranks that stomp on killers won't be an issue or no where near as bad
3) Less DCing all around. Ranked get a map you don't like, well, now losing a pip means something
4) wait times - still allows killers to find lobbies and wait times won't be nearly as bad
5) you are playing kill vs skill or fun mode so there's a choice to play competitive without being called a sweaty try hard AND without sacrificing your rank or your friends
6) ranks will FINALLY mean something other than stomping one side or the other
7) if/when we get actual DC penalties it'll impact your rank as well as the added punishment so there's more of a reason not too
@kamisen I agree there's got to be a change and soon.

Excellent point! But as a killer on PS4 the wait time and DC's are abysmal rn. Annnnd I still get lopsided survivors 1 red 3 yellow grey... And they aren't popping in at once so I don't suspect SWF most times. They do dc though 😞

After Mr FlipFoneFace was released, I couldn't find matches with survivor so I just gave up on playing survivor until Steve and Nancy came out. I play after 10pm cst on the ps4 and as a killer I dnt have problems finding matches. I'm not red rank anymore though...my playtime in the past months had been meh from burnout...

not flip fone....90's camera face...it's the afternoon and my job has made my brain mush...

Seems like you think this is a 1 vs 1 game. When i bring in three newbies i expect that we wont face the best of the best at the beginning. I dont want to face rank 20 killers either, but a fair middle ground would go a long way for both parties. Now there is 1 person having fun opposed to the 4 we had before. And even then that one person had up to three people of equal skill.
This change has already gotten my friends thinking about quitting. And that is saying something.
If this game is going to live to see anniversary 4 this change needs to be reverted or atleast tweaked.
2 -
Can't you see an issue with how you are saying your fun should be priority over someone else's.
Killer players have had to put up with your scenario for years where they would be versing players too good for them due to the system.
Instead of thinking about only your circumstance put yourself in their shoes. Do you really think it was fair for them to not have fun in a match due to who you chose to play with?
Thats ok the game has been going to die numerous times with changes people didnt like since 2016 and here we still are.
2 -
Yes i have had to put up with the previously broken matchmaking as a killer main since 2016. And im not asking to have red ranks facing rank 20's again. I want a middle ground based on the amount of higher or lower leveled players to make it more fair. So if that is prioritizing MY fun over everybody else, then sure. I want this game to be able to keep its new players and not force them away.
The current situation with the complete opposite matchmaking is driving newcomers away in a really rapid succession.
And your statement is well contradictory... So since low level killers have been bullied for all these years its now time to let all new survivor players that have been brought in by a friend to be bullied? How about you put yourself in their shoes?
And saying this game will die by year 4 was a bit of a stretch i admit, but it will stop growing if all newcomers are driven away.
1 -
Even the middle ground has killers who can't compete with those in red ranks. That doesn't solve the issue and why it has been one of the most complained about situations.
The thing is survivors don't have to be bullied they have that choice. Having a choice and chosing it is on the person not the game. Most PvP games your friends won't be able to play with you in a ranked mode unless they learn the basics and start to rank up. Why should this be any different?
You are also not thinking about new killer players that come to the game gwtting bullied as getting to green ranks is easy for a killer as you cannot depip from 20 to 16. 15 to 10 is where most of the new players can end up and pretty quickly who have even a small knowledge of the game which is where the average game could pit them against those in your scenario.
New players should not be pitted against the best but at least new survivors have that choice now if they want to or not.
Your three new friends can easily play together for a while leaning the game. I don't really see why that is an issue if one person out of the four has to wait so its a fairer game for all.
0 -
To start with your last one. I guess you dont have any friends since you dont see the issue with me not playing with them. I introduced them to the game, they want to play with me and hear about all the different killers and what they do and so on.
And as for the so called "choice" we have, killers have an equally insufficent choice in the form of lobby dodging. The choice you have presented isn't good enough and if you think it did. Then yeah lobby dodging is a thing.
And lastly the new killers in the green ranks. They have learned the basics. If a new system was in place that would find the middle ground of the ranks. Then that killer can always avoid the best player like we ALL do in red ranks. This is the absolute basic of playing killer if you see someone clicking their flashlight at you with a legacy outfit you better wait chasing them until you have taken some of their friends.
1 -
There is never any need to lower oneself to petty insults. It's a game and friends will take the time to learn the game if they truly want to play with you. You can still advise them and play with them all you wish it's just they will have a great time initially that's is the choice you have to make.
Lobby dodging needs looked at and who knows it may be getting worked on just but two wrongs don't make a right.
Learning the basic takes very litle time but that alone will not make you good enough to verse the better players. Any competent gamer could hit rank 15 with around 10 hours of play. Rank 15 to 10 are still zones for newer players and why it would be helpful if the devs also worked on the deranking of some. What you have learned regarding not chasing a player is done with time played and doesn't help when you don't have the knowledge or skills to avoid flashlights and good players will take advantage of that with newer killers.
It is quite clear no amount of reason will change your mind. I hope you can see it from the other side and if not happy gaming.

@twistedmonkey While the game needed this change, I think you are overestimating casual players' threshold.
On the forum people chant: "Your friends need to get better!", "Play KYF instead", "They KNOW that they're meeting someone better, they can prepare", "Punish deranking players so they stay in their rank".
My casual friends are having none of that. They simply said: "Let's find a new game, then!". Not one word about KYF, getting better or preparing more.
If deranking by suicide really is bannable and I cannot make my friends revisit the game, I will probably be a much less frequent player as well.
2 -
Time will tell of course but I personally think the game will be fine and people that enjoy the game will adapt to the change quickly. It's now not any different from most other PvP games afterall.
After any change the devs make players come to the forum and complain but tbh this change hasn't had as many complaints compared to the Legion changes or the DS change for examples.
I don't think KYF is the answer for players out to learn playing the normal game. KYF while good for learning maps and the basic game mechanics doesn't reflect the normal game play and people will generally go easier and not use some of the less liked tactics.
I can't ever see deranking by suicide being bannable as it's an in game mechanic. I am.not a fan of bans anyway and prefer time out systems. What idea I have mentioned in the past is making rank brackets where you have 5 of them like broad, silver, gold, platinum and diamond once you reach a bracket you cant derank after just 5 matches as it takes a minimum of 50 games to set an mmr and you can then drop to the lower bracket.
Matchmaking can match you with 1 below or above. It means those in the top can only play with the top two bracket for example. This is just for the sake of the player numbers.
I have also spoken about being on the hook and suiciding in the past and due to people doing it for a number of reasons I put out the idea of you needing to be on the hook for at least 30s in each stage before it's possible.
0 -
@twistedmonkey I agree with you, the game will definitely be fine. We are probably talking about a very small percentage of the player base who (if at all) permanently leaves the game. TBH, I’ve never seen a game recieve as many death-threaths as this game does :-).
Deranking by suicide is, according to this 1-year-old thread, bannable: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/6598/bannable-offenses
Peanits says: ”Intentionally deranking: Yes, it is bannable (WITH A HUGE ASTERISK, READ ON). If your are intentionally dying in your games to lower your rank, you are hurting the other people in the game by ruining their experience and making it tougher on them. Though these days it's much easier to do something and still derank, so you could still do something to help the team and derank in the end if you really want.”
I guess they track it by using in-game reports.
Either way, I do hope that they figure something out that caters to casual SWFs as well. Without reverting the new changes.

Ugh. We all know you want easy matches and play with your potato friends. Just wait for rank reset or they get better or realistically the devs cave.
0 -
easy matches with potato friends? Do you know how hard it is to play with potatoes? But hey atleast my killer games are real easy with all the new players playing with their friends.
1 -
Will do! In the meantime i will enjoy my 10-15 minutes queue times as killer until they have gotten gud.
