Challenge to people who live and die by hex: ruin, and for those who don't like it.
What is this challenge? It's a challenge to the notion that ruin is required at any rank, and the notion that ruin is a wasted perk slot since it will get cleansed in 30 sec. Pretty simple.
We can collectivelly do this, and get better results than doing it alone.
Here's how we do this.
Step 1 - Play normally like you always do. Using ruin.
Just 10 games, (100 would be better, but let's be real here, ain't nobody got time for that)
During those games, keep track of 3 things for me
1- was it cleansed?
2- when was it cleansed? the answer can be based on a flat timer, how many gens are left, how many hooks you got (all of the above would be better. XD) [if you're on ps4 you can use the share button to record the matches after you play them, so you can focus on the game and only care about these things later]
3- what was the end result of the game? (1k,4k, pip, double pip, how many gens were left)
Step 2 - play another 10 games. Without ruin.
Only keep track of the end result of the game.
Step 3 - post the data here, with your killer rank.
That's it.
If we do this, we'll see the numbers ourselves, and we will be able to use those to improve our gameplay. Instead of going "we need ruin" or "ruin is overrated", let's all put our "money" where our mouth is and show everyone that we really need, or don't need, ruin.
The more people join this, the more reliable the results will be
Ps: I said 10 games with and without ruin, but honestly, however many you get is great. 5, 3, 1... doesn't matter

I'm just going to answer this because 10 games takes 2 hours and... I'm not for it. Every time I run Ruin, it's cleaned in high ranks in a minute or so, if not, I'm guarding it really well.
Results normally? 3k-4k.
I've started playing killers like GhostFace without ruin, it's atrocious. You need time to end a chase, and ideally, a chase should and needs to be over and on the hook in no more than 25 seconds. Fortunately for survivors, they have walls, pallets so close to each other that make it a little harder to actually hit that 25 second mark. That's why Nurse is too good, she not only can avoid mechanics that are used to deal with killers, but she can consistently, no matter the circumstance, hit that 25 second mark and get on another survivor immediately.
Just like competent SWF's. They don't struggle to combat Ruin if they are working hard to all escape or at least one. Ruin isn't invincible for the entire game, and optimal survivors don't really find it much of a nuisance, more of an annoyance.

I believe you, but the way we remember things aren't necessarily how they actually happen.
When I crunch the numbers at the end(which is what I intend to do) I'll take what you said into account, and also compare, to see how it stacks with the numbers

No, I'm being dead serious. I don't 3k nearly ever without Ruin, and if I did, it was because the survivors threw the game and felt bad for me, or they just tryharded to oblivion and 1 or 2 made a mistake. Ruin on average saves me at least, 100 seconds. Normally for me, that's enough for 3 hooks, equivalent to a full kill (which 3 hooks on 3 different survivors).

Despite how bad ruin can be, and its downsides, it's still the better perk for slowing the game down. Since it's the only perk that can passively pressure on gens, even corrupt intervention is passive, but it doesn't apply to all gens (for obvious reasons) and only two killers can really benefit from it.

Again, I believe you. But we tend to remember the bad stuff more than the good stuff. And not even with very good accuracy.
For instance, last season I wrote down every killer I faced. I was certain that I saw a good amount of hags, but there was literally 0. I'm doing it again this season(with more stuff than just who I face) and still no hag. I could say Im finding demogorgon all the time since the dlc came out, but it's not even half the matches. I assumed bbq was everywhere, but it's barely in 1/3 of the matches

I agree, which is why I mentioned 100 games would be better. But that's a lot to ask.

I run Ruin because I'm addicted to it. I know it's nowhere near an optimal perk. IT's hit or miss. Sometimes it gets cleansed in 10 seconds, sometimes it slows the game down to a crawl. Or, like what just happened in my latest match, the survivors genrush you for 4 gens before they even cleanse it.

When ever I use Ruin it lasts pretty long, not sure what you guys are doing wrong.
Anyway I would do that challenge but dbd is updating for me.

Alright, so, que times have been kind to me and I have actually done 10 with Ruin and 10 without.

My Build: Spirit Fury, Enduring, Brutal Strength and Pop Goes the Weasel
My Rank: 2
Result with Ruin (Average Kills): 3.5K, I was usually able to get 3 hooks before Ruin was cleansed, this gave me a ton of pressure in the early game.
Result without Ruin: 2K, gens popped far too quickly very early in the match for me to come back from it. PGTW really saved my butt when it came to stalling it out further, however, too many pallets and loops for me to do much when I get my first down AFTER two gens pop.

no Other perk buys as much time as ruin. Period. Sometimes it’s cleansed in 5 seconds because they spawn on it, other times it lasts the entire game. Either way, it’s still mostly upside for the killer. SUrvivors have to waste time finding it, or they have to push through it and hit the skill checks perfectly, while actively being hunted.

If you ended a chase every 25 seconds, you’re looking at a bit more than 300 seconds if you 3 hook everyone.
This means your ideal Killer game is 5 minutes.
Why are you okay with a game ending in 5 minutes if you sacrifice everyone? Is it okay if the survivors finish all gens within 5 minutes and escape? I am very curious.

I'm afraid I don't. I saw this and was like, yeah, we can do it. So, I just kinda kept que'ing and ended matches as fast as I could. I can remember a few, if that helps but Xbox is bad at recording stuff.

Is there a dbd community that doesnt complain about rookie stuff like RUIN,NOED, cause yeah it sucks to have to see posts of Noobs complaining about Ruin! RUIN. RUIN, its a hit or miss perk, but I land my shots and i know many others do too. A sub for actually decent players.

Despite how inconsistent Ruin is, it's always doing its job when it's active even if you don't feel it. It's a powerful perk no matter what and there's a reason everyone in high rank runs it.

Nah, I'm just doing an equivalent to be able to keep pressure on the map and in comparison, an ideal. If the survivors are competent enough when you get back, that gen should be nearly done. Yes, I'm fine with a game lasting that long for either sides, if a game ends in 5 minutes, it means I played really poorly as a killer, and if I 4k as a killer, it means I did very well.
You should also take into account which killers can hit the 300 seconds mark. I'm not including the time that it takes to hit a gen and look for a survivor, which should be an extra 15-30 seconds. On average, games last 7 minutes for me.

It's really dependent on the map and how optimal the survivors are. As you found out if the team isn't optimal they get destroyed Ruin or not. Of course it also takes still from your part, but I'm talking about equal skill level on both parts, so please don't take it as me trying to take credit from ya. I think it's cool when people try different things and don't run meta builds.

There needs to be a limit on what perks can be taken. When the Killer is playing without Hex:Ruin, they should only take 1 anti-gen perk (Thanatophobia, PGTW, etc).
If a Killer takes 2 or more anti-gen perks, that would most likely produce results indicating Hex:Ruin is worse than it is.

The point is to show if it's needed or not.
Doesn't really matter how you succed without it, as long as you do.
After all, if ruin is necessary, no perk combo would solve that
