New idea for a hook mechanic that allows more diverse killers to be added.

This is my first post on the forum, and I figure this fits more under general discussion than a fan creation.

At the moment, all killers place the survivors on the hooks, and due to that all killers so far have been bipedal humanoids, obviously so as to carry survivors and place them on a hook.

The thing is, horror is a very broad and popular genre, and there is a vast plethora of horror characters and ideas that revolve around non humanoid or non bipedal sorts of killers and monsters.

If a mechanic was implemented that replaced hooks with something new to accommodate a vertically challenged killer it could open the door to new killer types including some cool licensed ones like chucky, cujo , gremlins etc.

My idea for a mechanic would be the 'drag' mechanic where the killer drags the survivor by the legs with them kicking and screaming to wiggle free.

From there could be one of two options. The killer drags the survivor where they put a chain hook through their ankle and they lie on the ground, where the hands of the entity come out of the ground like a spider to take them after 3 hooks, effectively making it just a reskin of the normal hook.

There could also be a new actual game changing mechanic where the killer can effectively "hook" the survivor where they down them by summoning the claws of the entity.

Just my thoughts on what could be done to implement characters like Chucky that are popular enough to warrant being in the game, but mechanic wise would have trouble fitting in.

What I've come to realize is that it's a height factor also speed and movement, these thing's combined on smaller character's are disorienting at most it's no way to really stabilize that if you spin around a corner like swiping at survivor's the camera and the bob be comes unfocused alone with animations the characters does is to encumbersome, dead by daylight is no place for smaller character's the shortest killer in the game is, The Hag and she's has so much trouble getting across maps and catching survivor's if you don't time your strikes well you want get a hit through a window or pallet vault which is key in matches.

A small character in dead by daylight probably work I mean move around and climb through a window but ultimately it would just slow you down and know one wants a killer that would be an aperture

I like the idea and it would totally take care of the hook problem, but there are many other factors that would still cause problems. Windows being one, and your line of sight would be severely hampered on most maps.

Maybe a future map could incorporate this mechanic in place of hooks, just to mix things up. Picture a dungeon that uses these instead of a basement with hooks.

I really like the idea and I think it's definitely something which could lead to diverse Killers coming to dbd. Some people will call your suggestion dumb but I think that's incredibly unfair because I know the Devs could make your idea work for a killer like Chucky.

There's a difference between not seeing it happening and something being a farfetched suggestion. I think yours is relatively simple to have implemented into the game. It's different and equally if not more devastating than ordinary hooks.

As long as the chain pulling into the ground is relevant to the killer it comes with then this would be a really top notch suggestion.

I think saying an idea wouldn't work is a polite way of insulting, just think creatively and you can come up with a way to slot things into place. The plague is a giant, the hag is tiny maybe if we had Chucky he would have a similar perspective to hag.

    @paintinghand

Hag is pretty short yes, but she’s also hunched over. If you’d remove the slouch, she’d stand decently tall; 5’10 at minimum. She’s short— yeah, but 4’4 is a blatant understatement.

Also for those in the thread, please consider that killers are supposed to be strong, taller, and larger than survivors. So adding killers like Chucky would be contradictory to this.

EDIT: Forgot a point! Added in.

the entity could just impale them and toss them on the hook when you reach a hook. And sorry if this was already suggested above, I didn't read everything.

I agree, and me being an absolute Chucky fanatic and I know you guys know this, but ultimately he doesn't fit in the game due to his size it would be cool and sound's cool but, Dead By Daylight is just know place for smaller killer's

If they could actually make it work then I'll be all for it but giving the current state of the game it would not make sense or be enjoyable and, at the end of the day that's what's it has to be about a balance for everyone to enjoy or at least tolerate
