Why are people so extreme about getting their pips?
Just wondering why people can be so extreme about getting their pips? I've been threatened in post game chat because someone "almost didn't get their second pip." It seems like people complain so much about play at higher ranks yet they also act like their lives have been ruined if they don't pip or God forbid depip.

I do not care about pips, really. But I get so upset when I get a 2k/3k and then depip. Even a 4k as tombstone tuft Myers depip...

Its a competitive thing. Rank in this game is the only thing there is to some people. Its not a bad thing to want to rank up, since really what else is there to do in this game.
Some people though, myself included already hit that top rank and dont care anymore, or never cared to begin with, but there will always be people who want to be the best and thats okay
That aint okay is being an ass about it, berating people for "almost making them depip" because you where the one who did all the gens or rescued people

I don't want to go back to green ranks

But wouldn't you end up back at red ranks in a few matches anyway?

Well mate you gotta remember, everyone here is a red rank. Just like everyone on Rainbow Six Siege subreddit is a platinum or higher, everyone in the call of duty forums are top ranked in their state/ country and we are all plebs beneath them.
People put way too much stock in their rankings. I never really cared (even though you can always tell who is a true rank 20 vs someone who just messes around a lot). I'm just here to have fun and kill people who make dumb mistakes.

I dunno man - I stopped caring when the current iteration of the emblem system came out which heavily screws over the Plague.
I just play for points now, ######### the emblem system.

I dont really see any point of caring about ranks until there's a incentive

People think rank matters and is a true measure of their skill when it's really not so they in turn get salty about the fact they were beaten.
Removing rank from this game entirely imo would make it into a far more casual experience that people wouldn't be so salty and unnecessary towards one another about.
At least to a degree I believe.

So, the current rank system isn't based on your own personal skill, and is determined by other factors you have zero control over, which sucks. Does someone decide they want to DC? Oh, well you now depipped. GG's. ( <- And that goes for survivors and killer) People decide to let their teammates die on first hook? Well you lose out on those points as well. Etc. And lets not forget the killer... you kill everyone TOO quickly, you lose out... lol.
Yeaaaa.....
Players that been here longer care less than new players. In most games rank means something. And rank, generally, is supposed to be about your skill and to some people that means something, whether or not there are "Rewards"... which the dev's said they will implement. So, more people will probably start caring that currently don't. -- And also people still try to get Rank 1 for the steam achievements etc.
Regardless of why you want to rank.. this, the lack of control, creates a great deal of tension in people. I believe the real issue is how the emblems work currently, once they fix that to be more in line with actual "skill" of a player, I feel like the tension will decrease, and you won't see people blaming others.... as much.... lol

Not to that point, but im a very competitive person and i like to be at the top, so staying on red ranks is one "objective" i have on the game

♫Don't be fooled by the gens that I pop
♫I'm still - I'm still Genny from the Block
♫Used to pip a little, now I pip a lot
♫No matter where I go, I know who I escaped from!

Despite not caring about ranking up, I do care about whether I pip or not as I see that indication whether I won or not. For me escaping isn't important, I rather have a fun and die, then escape in a boring match.
I disagree that pipping is out of your control. Escaping is a team effort but pipping is on you, unless the killer was really bad that you couldn't earn any chase or altruism points. Even with a disconnect and bad team mates you can still pip.
For example I had a game where a spirit destroyed my team with four gens remaining, but the spirit couldn't down me and I got the hatch. I nearly doubled pipped at red ranks.

@Nutty_Professor To an extent pips are on you, but it is very much out of your control if everyone dc's and you don't even safety (aka lose a pip). I will never say that someone else aka Disconnecting, not participating in gameplay when you chose to, is in your control. It CAN be possible with a single disconnect to make pips work, but the point is that is not ALWAYS the case, and because it is not always the case, I view it as being a flawed system right now. Such as the times that If disconnecting forces the game to immediately end and you can't safety and therefore lose a pip, that does not seem right to me.
Basically, It should always be about you and your skill, and if its not always, then I view it as flawed. I think they very easily can fix certain things to make it more fair in those regards, but right now that is not the case. Like sure it works to an extent, I understand what you are saying. Just there are exceptions. And it's out of your hands nonetheless.

Because some ppl need to go outside a little more.

You'll get games like that, but even in games like Overwatch, you can lose SR because someone on your team rage quit or other stuff which is out of your control.
