DBD = PUBG
Okay so, we all remember what happened with PlayerUnknown's Battle Grounds, right? When they added a battle pass to the game, even though it's a paid game?
Battlepasses work well on free2play games, such as Fornite and Apex Legends.. But not paid ones. Yes, those games are shooters and work differently than DBD, but we aren't talking about gameplay here.
When PUBG added a battle pass to their game, outrage occurred. How dare you make me pay to play your game, AND pay to get anything cool? You feel left out if you don't buy the pass, because everyone has these really cool skins and weapons that you don't. The free version of passes has like 80% less stuff in it (1 thing every 5-10 levels, versus 1+ thing(s) every level)
I have already spent real money on cosmetics before, and on DLC's, AND on the game itself. Now you want me to spend even more money on a pass that basically everyone will have unless they're 12 years old?
Battlepasses/rifts are a money grab, CHANGE MY MIND.

you forgot black ops 4 a paid game with a free pass

You can spend 1000 auric cells on the pass, and if you complete it you get a total of 1000 auric cells by getting to the last level of the pass. If you managed to complete the pass then you basically got all the cool stuff FOR FREE!

You actually don't spend anything if you buy the premium pass, and it's even arguable that BHVR loses money.
Not only you make everything back, but you get cosmetics (and we all know how expensive they are). Therefore, since you make all your auric cells back (you basically didn't spend any money) and you get cosmetics for free — that's a huge win!
Typically I wouldn't recommend a season pass, but BHVR made their so generous that you don't lose money and you get cosmetics.
If you play DBD a lot, I definitely recommend buying their season pass. I know I'm a trusted member, but trusted or not, I would be saying the exact same thing here.

I mean, you already have to pay the price of the pass to get a single outfit. If you don’t care about cosmetics then why care about the pass? You can continue not to spend any money and the game will be no different. If you do care about cosmetics and buy them regularly then this is practically a steal.

The battle pass is actually the best value for cosmetics in the game.
$10 is 1 outfit. Once you get 3 pieces you've beaten the value of buying a cosmetic in the shop.
Plus you get your money back if you play enough to hit the max level.

at this stage we can only sumarize the devs are sabotaging their own game not fixing bugs but just monetizing this cash cow and making hair brain ideas like nerfing nurse because the survivors (4x the voice) cry that she can beat their swf. Its pretty much end times for this game right now most streamers are trying to jump ship and get their audience seeing other games before this one sinks.

Not free, time has worth and it takes roughly 80 hours to complete a Rift by playing both sides and completing all challenges according to the devs.
80 hours over 70 days looks about right. But it all depends on the challenges and how hard they can get. Level 1 stuff are bare bones basics such as working X gens, hooking Y people, just normal gameplay with only 4 challenges that have requirements. Level 2 and up are likely going to have more and more of those requirement based challenges, and some might also be locked behind paywalls.
This week it is just playing as Trapper or Claudette and using Brutal Strength or Plunderers Instinct. Next week (if it goes week by week and not every 2-3 weeks per level) though could require the use of Cannibal, Ash, Shape, Steve, any paid DLC Killer/Survivor and or their perks. Might just be limited to original Killers you can get through shards, but Im willing to bet that you will need the paid DLC to complete challenges sooner or later who adds even more to the costs.
There is a fine line the devs are walking. This could easily turn badly for them in having a paid game offering a paid reward system that also requires paid DLC. Triple dipping the wallets of your average customer, on top of the cash shop making it into a possible quadruple dip that is near infinite in costs if the customer thinks it has worth or not.
