The sad state of atmosphere
I've whined many times about this in the past but I just got a game of this again showing one of my biggest beefs with how BHVR has utterly destroyed the atmosphere and mood of this game. I took a screenshot for posterity.
This is what Suffocation Pit's Coal Mine looks like now. The mine! A dark corner of the map on the darkest map in the darkest territory of the entire game (MacMillan Estate). And it's lit like a birthday party!
Bravo BHVR, bravo.

Trust me. Survivors lighting is different than killer's lighting. That map and all McMillan maps are nearly pitch black for the killer.

It really does depend also on how you perceive it... cause 3rd person is a bit different than 1st person. And how Killers see the room is very different from how say... you or your teammates see it.
It's far better like this anyways, since i'd prefer we don't devolve back to when moonrise offerings were a thing on the darkest maps...

Hot d@mn. I remember those pieces of crap. FUDGE going back to that trash. They got so bad I would DC if one was burned on a McMillan map. The only times I ever DC'd.

If you were the Killer, facing a team of Claudette's on MacMillan Estate with a moonlight offering burnt, than the game would be over... it was kind of impossible to really chase anyone when everything is as dark as the void...

Are you playing on low settings? I'm pretty sure it doesn't look like that on other settings.

The game has become a lot brighter over time and engine changes. It’s a shame, it hurts stealth a lot.

I'm saying it's a lot different from back than when Macmillian was already dark enough, now add on top of that with offerings like the moonlight ones that made the game impossible to find anyone who was good at stealth...
Granted, in 2016 everyone was a noob so nobody really was... that great... Or so I heard. But fast forward to this current meta, with those offerings and dark maps and the forums would be stormed with complaints.
You can have a dark atmosphere to a map, regardless if the lighting is pitch black or not.

The game is much brighter now compared to the past after updates and engine changes.
It’s not a pro for Survivor. I wish the game didn’t feel so artificially lit.

Progress takes one step at a time... It took me a bit to get used to the new engine when it came out, everyone was a lot brighter. But after awhile I got used to it...
It really didn't make it easier to spot Survivors that knew how to hide, it just made the maps a lot brighter. Yes the maps seem kind of artificially lit, but tbh I like it a lot more since I can see the detail of the map rather than it being obscured by pure darkness.

Lol no. There were offerings called Moonlight Offerings that would make the maps super bright or super dark depending on the variant. Like the fog bottles.
Lol no. The game is not brighter. The McMillan maps are so dark for Killer that you can't see anything. Play Killer. Maps are darker than you think.

It depends, it can be hide and seek, but the main theme of this game is more akin to cat and mouse. People like chases, and they love the challenge it brings. People don't like the stealth aspect to be... insanely difficult to get past because of the map lighting and a offering that made it worse.

I’ve played the game since beta. I know what moonlight offerings are.
I primarily play survivor, but I have well over 1000 hours as Killer.
The game is much brighter now than it was in the past.

Yeah, because the escape rates were way too high in year one. Year one was awful (in hindsight) I never want to go back to pitch black, infinite windows, & sabo squads.

Okay.. In your last post you claim the game isn’t brighter now.. Then you retract and agree the game was much darker in the past. You feelin alright? The escape rate wasn’t higher because of how dark the maps were btw.

Oh god, the old Darkest Moonlight on any Mcmillan ... P3 Claudettes were a nightmare.
They literally could run in front of you and you ONLY would see red scratch marks appearing from thin air. It was literally impossible to play that, unless you used gamma settings in your gpu, as I did later on whenever offering was played.
This created another gap of weirdness, where some people were seeing pitch black, on the other hand, people who used gamma correction (drivers, 3rd party software, monitors) were gaining unfair advantage, as with said correction I could clearly see P3 claudette in the corner of satan's arse while darkest moonlight was being eclipsed by another P3 claudette.
But yes, game felt and actually looked better at the release, not due to graphics being sharper, more realistic and of higher quality, no, it just felt much grimmer, brutal and spooky at the same time, now it is... just less colorful fortnite.

I didn't know you meant year one. 99% of the playerbase came in well after year one. Year one was practically a beta. If you think not being able to see had NOTHING AT ALL to do with escape rates you are lying to yourself.
You clearly play very little killer, if any.

I mean I am not saying it had NO factor. But you could burn a brightest moonlight and still get rocked by Claudette’s tbagging you at Wretched Shop. A lot more factors played into it. I.e. actual infinite’s, double pallets everywhere, no gen regression Perks, inability to kick gens, jungle gyms with no holes, jungle gyms with double pallets, faster vault speeds, slower killer vault speeds, slower killer powers. Do.I need to go on? Or you gonna say I barely play Killer to try and make your claim seem legitimate LUL

I like the new lighting. There are dark and light spots and makes stealth not just walking around on a dark map instead you have to plan and use the right areas. The shadows are so much better and realistic now.
With a full moon it's amazing how bright it can get in some countries.

If you want the game to be darker for "atmosphere", you can always just adjust your own display settings.

THIS. If it really is just for atmosphere and not to blind the killers then adjust your own brightness. This is how you know when "atmosphere" is code for "poke out killers eyes"
