Is Ruin so disliked?

That survivors will have a stand off with the killer over it???

Ive now started trying to max out the trapper (just going down the line trying for them killers teachables). And my last 3 games the entirety of the match has been fighting over this totem?...

I never really cared much for Ruin. Its a gamble. I hate gambling. But i have absolutely nothing else on this trapper (I just unlocked the 4th perk slot) so every perk i have is pretty shummy. (damn you bloodweb RNG!) Also i suck badly. I just dont get this killer. Between trap placement and SWF. Its bad. So ive started trapping the hex knowing it'll get cleansed regardless but at least i can find one survivor by either them being silly and getting trapped (yeah no luck) or from me getting the disarm notification.

1st match standoff. My defence was destroyed, no good spots near the gens or hex. But i basically got a 4K because they wanted this damn totem gone and by the time it was cleansed. I had injured everyone and downed 1. They wouldnt let me hook but were still injured. So I ended (painfully) having to slug one after the other and when id try to hook someone some sneaky survivor would heal one back up. Ended with all 4 slugged and i was finally able to hook at end. (They had 1 gen left at end)

2nd game was another stand off. But not much to be said about this one. It was a very good survivor group who all brought tool boxes.

"Entity Displeased" (I rather not creep towards them high ranks honestly so I'll take it)

3rd match. Yet again another rodeo around the totem. So i made my bed there (traps around the closest hook by the totem and any place they kept running in and out) 4k but not as painful as the first game. (They only completed one Gen and 2 survivorss had brought the offering for 100% extra BP for everyone. It was basically wasted for them lol)

Yeah i always write long post sorry guys :'(

I just hate that mine always seems to go down instantly.

At lower ranks, Ruin can be pretty game-changing because no one can hit great skill checks reliably. And it can be very frustrating if you know where the totem is but can't get to it - the compulsion to cleanse it under those circumstances is stronger than if you just can't find it. Remember that cleansing hex totems rewards a decent amount of points for survivors, who don't get an enormous amount generally.

On top of that, if they have toolboxes, as you said one team did, they probably want to get good use out of them. It feels like a waste of the toolbox's limited power if the generator is regressing half the time, so those with toolboxes have even stronger motivation to find and cleanse Ruin so they can get the most out of their item.

Well there is a couple a killers that can defend the Hex quite good due to their powers / mobility. (Billy, Hag, Trapper)

Now some survivors will refuse to make gens while the hex is up because if they are not able to hit perfect skill check, it really slow down the gens progression and lets be honest, the ruin's are never really hard to find.

Some people just don't know when to back off tho. If the killer is protects hard the totems i just don't understand survivors risking hooks since you getting hook will waste alot more time then hitting actual good skill checks on a gen.

But yea, to answer your question, it's never fun to make gen's when Hex ruin is up.

    @Fibijean

I can understand that. I to this day dont play survivor so I often have to come here to find answers to things survivor related. Also makes sense as to why the group with toolboxes pretty much demolished the hex (and my traps!) Ruthlessly lol

    Thank you for the insight!

I don't know of a single person who enjoys having to hit great skill checks all the time.

Short answer. I expect ruin. It can be game changing for either side, but I don’t think it’s a problem. I don’t have a strong like or dislike for it. It’s just ruin to me.

    I do.

    it gives me satisfaction.

i think survivors should just do gens through ruin.

you might fail, but you’ll improve.

one day ruin will be nothing in your eyes

It is satisfying hitting those greats, I remember when I first started playing and thought ruin was just the scummiest thing a killer could use in their perk slot, now I’m relieved it’s ruin and not something else.

You’ll be surprised what people will do to get the totem... including but not limited to death.

I don't like ruin only because it is SO NECESSARY in red/purple ranks to have enough time to apply map pressure. i hate how i have to run it and give up a perk slot for ruin because of how poorly balanced this game is

It's not THAT big of a deal, but if you put a trap in front of it and tell people they can't have it, suddenly it becomes all they want.

Red ranks survivors love Ruin because they have no problem with great skill checks, but for everyone else it's awful.

Searching for Ruin is boring, having to hit great skill checks is frustrating, defending your ruin totem is boring, having to waste a slot on ruin to stand a fair chance of winning is annoying and limits variation, and then you often lose it after 30 seconds anyway. Unfortunately no other perk can replace Ruin effectively. That is why it is so popular.

If Survivors think Trapper is a bit naughty placing a trap near the hex totem, cast your minds back to Jason in F13 when he laid about half a dozen traps on top of each other around the phone box. Ouch.

I love when killers protect their Ruin all game as if they couldn't play without it. I've once had a match against a Hag that wanted to protect her totem so badly she only chased survivors away from it but never committed to any chase. A random and I somehow got to the agreement we'd take turns trying to get the totem, and while she tried to chase us away, the other two others seemed to have figured out what we were doing and just did gens. We never got to break the totem, even when there was only 1 gen left she still protected it and didn't commit to a chase. We all escaped and in the end game we got called "toxic gen rushers".

I honestly have no problem with the perk cause I can hit great skillchecks like 70% of the time. It just gets boring going against the same perk again and again, but I understand why people use it. I use it on my M1 killers as well on other killers with good map pressure I use Pop.

Also as someone said, the perk is a game changer on lower rank, where people can't hit skillcheck reliably. So most people are willing to go down trying to get the totem.

that's why you don't use ruin OMEGALUL

it goes down instantly for everyone, plus most high rank players are gods at hitting great skill checks.

seriously why don't you just want to accept that it's garbage? why do you just keep worshipping a perk that lost all of its viability because of how overused it is?

honestly i'd like to know why people are still using ruin over pop goes the weasel and corrupt intervention.

It's incredibly satisfying to cleanse a totem that a killer is obsessed with keeping up. And if the game doesn't seem to be going in the survivors' favor then I'll make it my sole mission to cleanse that totem at all costs. It's like a mini boss.

Two of my favorite perks are Inner Strength and Small Game and I always carry a map when I have one, so you could say I'm big on totems.

Btw I also occasionally like to play Hex Defense with Hag where I will do nothing but patrol my totem and the 2-3 closest gens. IDC if the survivors escape, they aren't getting my totem! 😁

I think Ruin should light up two totems- break either one and it's down.

But as is, I expect it every game. When it's not, it's either a confident and skilled killer or someone about to get steamrolled.

I get into "standoffs" against killers over everything. Doesn't have to be ruin.

I do it with Gens and with dull totems.

    I'm just stubborn that way.

I would love to see a potent alternative to Ruin, but there's just none. Ruin is a crutch, nobody likes it, everybody uses it.

  • ProfessorDunwich

It is such a necessity. Without it a killer loses 2-3 gens by the time they hook one survivor. It just goes downhill from there. Fixing the gen speed or adding a secondary objective would go a long way.

I hate that ruin is a gamble, I prefer not using it to be honest. So I usually don't. Except on the Clown - that poor joker needs all the help he can get.

    Ruin.

It either lasts for about 2 minutes or 10 seconds, no inbetween unless you fancy standing next to it all game.
