Autodidact Underrated?
Alright, as dumb as this may sound, I don't think this perk is as useless as people say it is. I've used it in a couple matches and it has been useful. Its a hard counter to sloppy butcher which has been getting more popular of a perk choice for slowing healing. I use it in combo with aftercare to see others that I have to heal to get quick stats. Also I feel like the skill checks are not as rare as people say they are. Not saying this perk is amazing, I just don't see it as bad as others say it is

100% I've been using it recently and it has actually done some serious work.
One time I was playing on badham with freddy. He slugged one of my teammates and my teammate crawled to that area in the preschool where the hatch spawns like 90% of the time. I went down there to heal him ( he was at 90% ) and got two 50% didact skill checks right after each other so I healed him full in about 3 seconds, which allowed us to escape freddy when he came down the stairs because of nurses.

It's not useless, but it's not exactly a great perk. The problem is that you are at the mercy of RNG. And it requires a suitable investment before you even reap any benefits from it.
Trust me, I run Autodidact every now and then for variety and fun.
You need to heal about two survivors before you can even get to 3 stacks. A lot of the time I don't even get to hit 3 stacks the entire match. Sometimes you get lucky and get 3 stacks with just one survivor.
The perk also pretty much needs Empathy or at least Bond, without it the perk will likely go unused and wasted.
You are much better off running either Botany Knowledge or We'll Make It.

I want to like it so bad. There’s no debating it’s a good perk once you get to 5 stacks; it’s getting to 5 stacks that’s the problem. In red rank games the killers apply pressure too fast for the perk to be good. When the pressure isn’t overwhelming it feels like only 1 of every 3 games give enough skill checks during healing to really benefit from the perk.

Would pairing spinechill with it be worth it do you think?

It's one of those perks that's dependent upon another perk ancillary to its potential. It can't stand well on its own, just like Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Spine Chill helps up the frequency of the skill check, but the killer isn't exactly staring at you all the time. And if the killer is ever close enough to be starting at you your patient will probably be bolting away for safety.
Spine Chill doesn't really help Autodidact.
I speak from experience. I've run this combo countless times.

Clearly you guys don't have the autodidact gods on your side. Just today and yesterday I've gotten 5 different times where I got three skill checks off one heal and 2 times where I got 4 skill checks, without any other perks affecting it.

I use Autodidact regularly since my main build is my signature healer build. I’ll be honest, everyone who commented on this post, they are all right about the perk. It is primarily meant for certain builds and HEAVILY relies on RNG. Sometimes you could get all five stacks from one Survivor, or you’ll get none at all for the whole match after healing multiple times.
But, take my word for it, when it works, it is one of the best things to grace Dead By Daylight.

I know Autodidact in theory could be a really useful perk. The problem with it is that it's too unreliable. You're at the mercy of RNG, which means sometimes you can get loads of skillchecks when healing and other times you get zero. In average I get 3 stacks everytime I use the perk, which means that it was more of a hinderance cause it cost me more time to use it than it has saved me. I remember yesterday when I tried using it, I managed to get 5 stacks once and that's because I went all out on getting them. Even then I once did a full Sloppy Butcher heal and got 0 skillchecks. I'd put the perk in my main build if they increased the chance of getting skillchecks when using it.

Yea that makes sense, I use it in my build with Aftercare, and Second Wind. I wouldn't use it on its own for the same reasons others say, but like @TruthTheDeceiver said, when it works, it sure as hell works
