Killer main here trying to play survivor
It sucks. Since I rarely touch survivor i am in ranks 15ish and it's so damn dumb to pip. I do like half a gen, chased, hooked, rescued only to be tunneled, gens pop and still being chased and now im dead. Reward? A black pip. I had a 49 in the survival category and also barely didn't get a gold in chaser.
Next game? Legit camped for a whole health state on hook. My team? All around me doing nothing. I even had kindred on ffs. I'm not
I'm not even that good, i just know the jist of what to do at loops from all my time chasing survivors so these ranks just suck. I really wanna get to the green ranks at least and hope to have a good time.
TLDR This may sound like a rant, and it partly is, but i genuinely wanna know if its worth the struggle? If it is, are there any tips?

When you get around Rank 10, Survivor gameplay will become much more fun to play. Trust me.

Welcome to the solo survivor experience!
When you go up to higher ranks the amount of camping/tunneling is a lot lower and you will (mostly) get smarter teammates.
DS is basically a must have perk, especially at those ranks. You should get it as soon as possible if you can.

Survivor is not easy. But with a little practice it becomes a lot easier.
Pipping is actually very easy though if that's all you want to do. But you need to learn to play a certain way because one mistake can end really badly for you and get you killed.
Since you are familiar with killer you should already know how to run loops a little, and how to avoid the killer's attention. Build on that foundation.
Green ranks to be honest isn't really much better than yellow. If anything the killers are just stronger here so it's easier to get stomped. There are lots of potato survivors at all ranks, even in red ranks. I would actually like to play in Yellow ranks more, I just rank up too fast.
Some tips:
- Play it safe a little at the start if you're having trouble surviving. Don't rush to a gen and maybe go around and look for the Ruin Totem instead first.
- If you want to do gens instead, try using a perk like Spine Chill so you know when the killer is heading towards your gen, then scramble and leave before the killer sees you. You can do this stealthily (don't run and leave scratchmarks) or make a run for it -- killer usually won't chase if you leave early enough. Then move to a new gen.
- If you haven't gotten the hang of how scratchmarks work, get Fixated.
- Do not ever idle. Even when you're injured and scared, be productive. Idling means no pips and BP. Always keep yourself busy. If you want to pip focus on the three emblems: Objective, Evasion and Boldness. Survival isn't always in your grasp. But if you do 1 gen, have one decent chase (can end with you down, no biggie) and get one safe unhook that's usually enough to get a safety pip at least. You can also break dull totems instead of a chase, and heal survivors instead of getting unhooks. You can even sabo hooks instead of breaking totems. If you are scared to do gens because you're injured, do totems, break hooks, whatever. Just don't crouch in a corner and hide.

Play more survivor. It's good for your understanding of the game and it's problems.

Playing as a victim averaging 2-2.5 gens and a totem. Escape rarely. But I don't mind taking one for the team. It is just a game.

I'll help, do your math, just do 2-3 full gens + 1-2 totems and you now have a black pip, EVERY OTHER THING you do helps piping up.

Once you get better at survivor and get into the Green/purple ranks you'll have more fun. Your teammates will actually start to be useful too...sometimes

Ah I remember those ranks teammates DC every game every killer tunnelling and camping to the point you can't do anything no one has borrowed time

Solo Survivor is not fun.

it's not fun in any rank area lmao

I have no problem having fun as solo survivor though.

Honestly same. I enjoy dying to let someone escape, just sucks when I'm rewarded for it with a black pip

It helps to be fearless and constantly doing something that generates points.
Dying is part of the deal many times, but you can help your team a great deal by staying until sacrificed.

Survivor is only rough starting out and up to the yellow ranks
From green on you'll start to see how much easier it is.

This.
Don't be suicidal though unless you want to do those kind of YOLO plays. If you need to be careful to avoid detection, be careful.
Staying alive and undetected is still more valuable than being caught and hooked or killed. If you feel the danger is too great, don't do crazy risky plays unless you know you can handle it.
Also there is no shame in playing a little more cautiously when you are dead on hook and injured. But that is not a license to just cower in a corner and hide. I mean, you can do that, but please don't. Unless there's a strategy to it: like you have a key and left behind.
My current build is like that (Fish for keys and escape) but even then I don't take the scummy way and hide. You could, it's understandable, but even then try to be as productive as you possibly can, especially if you want to pip. Key escapes don't usually pip unless you were productive the entire match.

Solo isn't fun for a lot of people now. Potato teamates everywhere no matter what rank your in as well.

Getting to and through green ranks is pretty easy, as intended. Purple is a usual stop for most people, then a wall at red rank 3-4. That won't have any guarantee things get better though.
Is it worth the struggle? Only one person can answer that.

Things actually get worse at red ranks IMO. Killers tend to be ultra sweaty in these ranks. And survivors teammates tend to be dicks and will rag on you if you don't play optimally or run silly builds.
Also at this rank games tend to be shorter (around 5 mins each) and tend to be stomps one way or the other.
