Idea for new survivor mechanic-Blessings

In a nutshell, this would be a hex totem equivalent for survivors, but with some differences. A blessing would look like a candle, surrounded by 3 smaller candles (each candle represents a survivor, the main candle representing the owner of the perk/blessing). Lore-wise I thought this would make sense since the bonfire is associated with survivors and the flame of the candles would represent a fragment of power from the bonfire.

Blessings would essentially be buffs for the group. Unlike totems, survivors can chose where to place the blessing (takes 16 seconds to do so). The effect of the perk will not activate until the blessing has been placed and can only be placed once per trial. Also, unlike hex totems, the buff does not apply to the whole map, but a set radius around it so survivors must place them strategically. Survivors can increase the area of effect by playing altruistically.

Killers are able to destroy these (takes 4 seconds total). Every second, the killer snuffs out a flame, starting with the smaller ones and the large one last. For each flame snuffed out by the killer, a survivor loses the effect of the perk, and once the fourth flame is extinguished, the blessing is completely destroyed. However, if the killer is interrupted and doesn't destroy it completely, the owner of the perk can re-light the candles and restore the buffs to the other survivors.

Here's a few examples:

Blessing: Serenity - Your presence brings calm and tranquility to others. Survivors within a 48m range of your blessing have a 11/22/33% reduced chance of triggering a skill check. Each time you heal another survivor a full health state, the range of effect from this perk is increased by 8m.

Blessing: Hope - Healing rate is increased by 30/40/50% for all survivors when within 24m of your blessing. Each time a survivor is saved from a hook, the effective range of this perk is increased by 8m.

Blessing: Divine Sight - Whenever an aura is revealed to a survivor (either through a map or another perk), and the survivor is within 48m of the blessing, any other survivors also within 48m of the blessing will also be shown the aura (for example is the survivor sees the killer's aura with Alert and that survivor is within the blessing's area of effect, all survivors within the area of effect will also see the killer's aura). Every time you take a protection hit, the area of effect is increased by 16m.

Any thoughts?

Killers have enough problems to deal with.

Gens are repaired too fast to give the Killers a second objective at the moment.

I've seen matches by people like Ohmwrecker where the fifth gen is popped just outside of 3 minutes. Like, 3 minutes, 10 seconds or so.

Until this is changed, Killers need to use every second for finding Survivors, and giving the Survivors a buff that ALSO takes the Killer time to remove just makes it more likely the Killer will not get more than 1 or 2 HOOKS, never mind a Kill, before the gates are opening.

While I do not think such a perk has a place in the game as of right now (simply too much time pressure on killers when facing decent survivors) I do really like the idea in general. I could see this as a feature down the line once game balance has more stable legs.

    Interesting idea, keep at it.

I am gonna have to echo the sentiments of people saying this isn't the right time to implement something like this. I do like the idea on paper, though, and I wouldn't mind seeing it re-visited in the future.

As the others have already answered it quite well enough imo I'm going to go a bit off-tangent:

Blessing: Divine Sight - Whenever an aura is revealed to a survivor (either through a map or another perk), and the survivor is within 48m of the blessing, any other survivors also within 48m of the blessing will also be shown the aura (for example is the survivor sees the killer's aura with Alert and that survivor is within the blessing's area of effect, all survivors within the area of effect will also see the killer's aura). Every time you take a protection hit, the area of effect is increased by 16m.

This could honestly be a neat thing to buff solo players with a bit of tweaking. Say for any survivor within an x meter distance - say 8ish, they share their aura readings with each other...Excluding maybe an object of obsession since that'd require A having no downside for sharing or B giveaway the fact there's 2 people in one spot now.

Imagine object of obsession with divine sight...

Agreed with the others, killers do not have the time right now for a second objective.

However it is a nice idea to give depth to the game, although the effects, %s and effective range you're suggesting as examples are absolutely ludicrous lol

Thanks for the feedback. I was just throwing out random numbers for the three examples, it's difficult to come up with ranges and %'s without any data or testing. I do get killers are pressed for time (I play killer about 30-40% of the time). Maybe instead of 4 seconds, have it take 2 seconds so its about the same speed or slightly longer than breaking a pallet or kicking a gen. Also, keep in mind survivors have to find a good hiding place, then spend the 16 seconds setting it up. During that time they're not working on gens. Also once the killer destroys it the survivor is then only playing with 3 perks. Taking a few seconds to eliminate a survivor perk doesn't seem like that bad of a trade off. Again, it's hard to judge since there's no way to test it but I just thought the concept was interesting.

The animation would have to be the killer kicking over the candles. lol.

It's an interesting concept, the big problem that I see is that survivors are able to decide where to place these candles - which makes them inherently stronger than hex totems.

While it's true that a killer can defend hex totems by either patrolling or trapping around them, while a survivor couldn't do something similar, there are also 4 survivors in a game - imagine a swf group, what could it accomplish with something so strong, if survivors are able to smartly place them.

Remember that a killer once gens are popping is on borrowed time as far as map pressure / patrolling.

Either nerf (a lot) the radius of effect, or you have to think of something else to balance it in those worst case scenarios.

This is cute and all but what are you proposing to give killers. You want to buff survivors but I don’t see any sort of balance for the killer side.

there needs to be more objectives for survivors of killers are running around breaking hex equivalents. Not saying the idea is bad. But in the current state killers would just be curb stomped even more
