my most pedantic complaint about DBD

This is totally not a hill I'm willing to die on, but it's something that continuously bugs me, so I'm bringing it up here:

Clown and Legion don't match their themes.

I think everyone knew a clown character was coming eventually, and was looking forward to something along the lines of Pennywise or classic Joker, carrying a giant mallet, and probably incorporating balloons, or maybe forcing survivors to laugh a'la Doctor's screams. The actual clown being a tubercular fat man with a pocket knife who throws smoke bombs and collects fingers is a little confusing. I think in a perfect world this character would be renamed to something else, and the moniker "Clown" would be reused later for a more Clown-like killer (or literally Pennywise who's probably coming out in a month or two given DBD's stellar track record for licensed characters).

Legion was clearly a quick win to reuse assets from Deathgarden to make a new killer, but it seems half-baked. The entire theme is that Legion is a gang along the lines of "Them", but you only ever see one member at a time. Obviously it would be way too much work to try to have the killer player control multiple characters at once, but even having other gang members passively watching the match from the sidelines would help a lot thematically. Even better would be to let the killer "tag in" other gang members for some benefit, contributing to the conceit that they're a gang working together even though the player only controls one of them at a time.

Anyway, thanks for reading my most pedantic complaint about DBD.

I agree. Maybe have each individual legion member do something different. Also the way Legion was shown in the trailer makes no sense with their ability either, in the trailer it shows the legion running alongside a survivor. The legion was pretending to be a survivor in the trailer, but in game it's just pretending to be a killer.

    I can be more pedantic.

Some cosmetics hide charms behind it. That's not cool.

    See? Way more pedantic...XD

That's not pedantic, Thanataphobia is an irrational fear of death. In the game it is fear of bleeding which as we all know is haemophobia.

I can out pedantic anyone. I can out pedentasize anyone? I can out pedanticness anyone? I don't know. Feel free to correct me and win.

I do think clown's power could potentially be very fitting. If the gas made survivors laugh instead of scream, and perhaps distorted vision and movement with various add-ons. Legion's is very poorly characterized though. Their power and their character are totally mismatched. Maybe it fit them better when it was first introduced, and they just repeatedly stabbed the same person in a frenzy.

When Legion was announced, I literally and immediately assumed that it was going to be a person with multiple personalities, hence the name. I was thinking "interesting, we'll probably be able to switch between different personalities each with a different ability of some sort," but ithat wasn't really the case.

I think the Clown isn't too bad, but I do think that he needs to be reworked a tad bit at this point.

Legion, on the other hand, needs some serious changes to be more effective. Sure, Feral Frenzy is kind of neat and can be a pretty fun twist on the game's classic mechanics, but it's just not fun enough for me to really get into most of the time.

Laurie Strode's perk, Decisive Strike, involves the killer getting stabbed with a glass shard. But in the movie Halloween, she stabs Michael Myers with a knitting needle.

You don't find a heavy breathing clown who cuts off fingers and licks them clean to be creepy??? Keep in mind not all killer clowns are over the top and fanciful. Take real life serial killer John Wayne Gacy for example.

Oh man I would LOVE to have seen the other members sitting on the walls of the match watching you (and even taking a swipe at you when you get too close). I do feel legion had a LOT of missed opportunities. Even having all 4 involved in the mori would have been nice.

i think that would make maitenance/balance of legion extremely hard to keep up with, especially if they all had different addons. would be cool though

No, I mean being able to swap between them in a match. It would be more unique and would make more sense for them. Like the op said, they are a gang but you only see one of them at a time.

Ah yes, I remember when Thana actually counted dead survivors as injured. The perk's name made sense back then....

So now we're getting mad at the devs because they made an original character instead of Pennywise? Think about what message you're sending them.
