Trapper useless
No one goes into his traps, he can't stealth, he is as basic as killers get, even legion outclasses him, personally I'd but trapper as a F tier, as a killer he has no use that give him a edge to other killers, as a survivor he is laughable as a free win, the one time I got someone trapped, was at end game and they mocked me (back fired but it was in an obvious place cause I was getting fed up of his weak ass and got me a hook and I camped that, I was a salty boi) why is he even here anyways? Can't slow gen progress, setting up is time consuming in a game that gens are complete in 10 seconds, settings at windows is pointless cause they get disarmed almost the instant you're in a chase, when at higher ranks, if you lose to the trapper, you have some serious thinking on how you're playing cause it ain't the killer being too strong I promise you that, trapper weak, no help in chase, traps cause more distractions than anything, remove or buff please I don't care (I don't care to be honest I felt left out not moaning, but trapper is very useless compared to the other killers at high ranks, that's no joke)

So the upsides of Trapper are that if you have foresight you can snowball just as hard as Myers and if Survivors are paranoid enough they'll avoid windows. I love Trapper, I'm not a Trapper main nor am I an expert on him but I see his strengths and weaknesses since he is someone I definitely want to be good at but his shortcomings are crippling sometimes.
The problem with Trapper is that the game was not made around him, ironic since he is one of the original 3 and he was the only playable Killer in the Beta so you'd think the game and its mechanics would revolve around that.
Trapper does need buffs, probably more buffs than any other Killer since his power is so unique and vastly under equipped to how far the game has come. He is the only Killer who wastes HIS OWN TIME using his power, Huntress has to search lockers to refill her Hatchets but that is nowhere near as bad as Trapper. Trapper is a great Killer concept-wise but his mechanics and design is lacking and inherently flawed.
If Trapper started with all of his traps then he wouldn't be wasting as much time because he would focus solely on placing them and not half with searching. He would need to retrieve them eventually but that would be much later in the match and that would be ok.
Start with all traps and get rid of the bag add-ons so he is always able to carry all of his traps. Implement that then he saves so much time and doesn't actually increase in power but instead becomes more balanced.

You should check out Not Otzdarva on youtube. He has some plenty educational gameplay with Trapper that might teach you a few tips and tricks.
4 -
That is actually pretty much the issue summed up into a big fix, definitely have survivors a bit more cautious and much slower
2 -
He's not outright useless, but he's definitely archaic and in need of a reworking, both of his base kit and his addons.
Even just letting him carry & start with all of his traps would be a massive improvement (though still not enough to make him good).
5 -
It doesn't help, I play both sides and saw through all of it almost instantly, it would work if he started with alot more, but I've tried his method and I've had it used against me, it's laughable, and I think he needs to update it, survivors at high ranks don't fall for something so obvious, they know it all
1 -
It's basically blind luck for his traps to get anyone, watching all these help videos I'm convinced are fake, cause when applied, or seen applied in a real game, it's, see through, either that or I'm observant as hell

I don’t think trapper is bad at all. I think a vast majority of people play like classic trappers and survivors have adapted to it for the most part.
what do I mean by classic trapper?
i mean the basement stairs are trapped.
pallets trapped
windows trapped
along the sides of walls trapped
it’s pretty cut and dry
it’s not that it isn’t affective(Bc it used to be) it’s just that survivors have seen it a million times and it’s become washed out as far as an advantage play.
try some new out of the box trap placements.
also trapper should start with more traps in his base kit by default if not all.

I don't place too typically, the odd few cause you know, tried and true, but I put in places you often retreat quickly to hide when doing gens or just cause it's there, but don't work, trapper needs something for pallets, like Freddy can with the nightmare pallets, they work great for survivors in a rush, maybe not to injure but to slow down or on dropped pallets to slow them down, or place a hidden trap that only damages but works only once per pallet, idfk but he needs a buff cause he feels so....#########

Are you doing gen strategies for your set up?
0 -
Depends what you mean by that, if you mean they are dotted near the gen then lightly, very lightly, if you mean in places people 100% goes to for cover then yes that too
0 -
Wait, your survivors disarm them? I wish mine did
0 -
Yes, he is pretty useless, but I would say Clown and Legion are still worse.
0 -
No I mean picking a group of gens that are clustered together and then trapping loops(not pallets or walls) in the area.
its going to throw the first half of the match but most of the time they’ll three gen themselves giving closing to you.
Throw on pop and blood warden. The second half is all yours. They’d have to be a very very good team to over come that.
don’t chase them into already completed gen zones where you haven’t trapped you’ll destroy your momentum by doing this in the second half.
trapper is a strategy end game killer. The more people realize this the better results they’ll have with him.
1 -
Useless? No but he is definitely bad. Traps are buggy and too small, he wastes time setting up traps, making corrupt intervention a requirement against optimal survivors. Trapper should have tar bottle at base, so his traps are actually more hidden and harder to find (the point of a trap is that you don't see it coming).

Trapper is not nearly as bad as you’re making him out to be. He could definitely use some buffs, but he’s in no way an F tier killer.
If you’re placing traps all over the map in all the obvious places then yes, he’s fairly weak. The way to play him is by placing your traps in one section of the map and corralling the survivors into those traps like cattle. If you play survivor then you should know the places they will run to in a chase, the key is to exploit that knowledge.
If you are not using your traps wisely then he’s as basic of a killer as you can play, but that doesn’t mean he is garbage.
1 -
He's very bad, but he's still decent.
Imo he'd be way stronger if traps
A. Dealt damage, they currently don't and just make you injured. And injured surv should go down. (unless helped)
B. No RNG. A flat time of 10 secs to escape, more with add ons up to maybe 15-17 ish.

They aren't placed randomly, I've tried that method, it doesn't work, nor does the method you mentioned, by the time you've done that, a survivor has seen and the rest most likely knows afterwards, and will make every effort not to go there, trapper just doesn't have enough for him to be worthwhile, I hear all the advice but even when I try it, even when watching other do exactly what I did, it doesn't work for me, if it works for you, you got special survivors but all of mine never goes where I want them to go, I can copy exactly as they do, and since all of what these YouTube videos never work I had to do my own stuff and it actually works better, as in I actually win, trapper isn't one of them that wins, and I do better ignoring the guides, I'll stick with my killers that can actually win, I have them to do different roles anyways
0 -
Yes I've done this, they rekted my traps as soon as I entered a chase, until all was gone, I got a few hooked but at the cost of all my traps, then it was a standard 3 gen, it's then another game thinking it was a fluke cause I believed that would be the game changing strat, after 3 gens left, hatch, so setting up leads to that, then I did again cause they did hatch, fluke I thought, but nope, same as the first, someone took me for a ride in my own death pit avoiding each and every trap, and the rest took them out one by one, I will admit, I raged on that one, threw on Freddy and won a ton of games cause I got a bit annoyed lol

idk what to tell you Bc I’ve seen survivors in multitudes fall to this. Trap placement is very important.
rule of thumb though when I say trap loops I mean trap the places they’re running to Bc they aren’t running where you did place them. I avoid tall grass, windows , walls , pallets when going against trapper.
I can’t tell you how many times I can go matches without getting caught in traps Bc I specifically avoid those areas against him.
Do or don’t do what you will with that information, I’m not spelling it out on the forum to f up a good trapper strategy.

Maybe I just have bad luck with who I get as trapper
0 -
Have to agree. I really struggled doing the 'catch 2 survivors in traps in a single match'
First two games a few had small game and just kept undoing my traps. Other games they would dodge them all together. 7 games as trapper was my personal hell!

I main Trapper and will admit he has issues, but is far from useless. You can't play him like you do other killers. You have to be willing to give up ground while setting up a portion of the map as your hellish playground.
Being creative with traps help as well. Sure, trap some of the usual spots just to keep the survivors honest, but toss in some surprise double traps, or a trap in an open area, then herd them towards it .
Most of my matches are snowball matches. Little pressure at first with the loss of 2 to 3 gens. Then it is like a wall comes up and they can't do anything but run.
Allowing Trapper to carry more traps as base kit, and to step over his traps might go a long way to help his viability.
0 -
Start with all traps- make them not glow like bloody fireflies- make brutal strength part of his base-kit.
0 -
Spoke like someone who doesn't use 900 IQ traps. XD
But seriously, are you expecting people to just walk into your traps? That can happen, sure. But people walk carefully when trapper is around.
You gotta herd them. Get into a chase and make them move towards your trap.
You are not defending the entire map, you pick an area to be your territory, that's where you put your traps. The survivors should be extremely paranoid when they go into your territory, if they aren't, make them.
0 -
Sadly though, you have to have decent trap spawns to make this work- horrific when trying to lay claim to an area when you get only maybe one or two traps dotted about- especially on the larger maps =c

Yeah.
Purple bag ftw... XD

Trapper is great. One of the few killers that rewards tactical decisions and foresight. If you're having as much trouble with him then those just aren't strengths of yours and that's fine: nonetheless he is NOT a bad killer. If you actually want to get better at him, learn where popular loops are and how survivors think when running them.
While a few tweaks would be appreciated, but there are killers who need to their entire kits looked at, so he's not a priority.
0 -
Im trapping where i run carelessly as a survivor. You can have a lot of luck in cornmaps
Also dull totems and chests plus the sharp edge on the basement stairs
Trapper is actually really brutal on Hawkins Lab if you're trapping the infinite and the balanced landing spots
But yeah he needs a little love
1 -
I think he's mid tier, but he has way too much counterplay with OoO/comms/maps/small game. Also, how in the world is he still starting with and carrying one trap after three years?
0 -
Here is how you effectively play Trapper:
Yellow bag, yellow or green setting speed (the grays work for both of these too)
-Corrupt Intervention
-Whispers
-Save the Best for Last
-Pop Goes the Weasle
Once you get more confident, you could swap Pop for, say, Sloppy Butcher or any other perk you like.
You want to trap heavily-grassed areas and places where you can't see a trap until it's too late. Check out Otzdarva for some great examples.

Trapper is weird.
Other weak Killers are weak because their powers have lame effects.
Pig can stealth but really really slowly
Wraith can "stealth"
Legion can injure you but can't down
Doctor can make you really loud
ect
But trapper's traps ARE strong. Instead his issue is that they have so many drawbacks that none of it matters. Such as needing to find them himself and being trapped by his own traps.
This makes him low tier despite being theoretically super strong.

?? you fell right into my trap. Unexpected places greater than expected places.
1 -
What do you play on?
0 -
Trapper is not useless. He‘s the God of denying god loops. Only Hag comes close in that regard. Also he‘s the only killer that makes you scared where you walk.
But he has major problems
- needs to collect traps
- can step into his own traps
- Survivors can pass placed traps with they smaller hitbox
- placing traps takes too long
- Survivors can escape traps on first try
He needs some serious buffs!

Ps4 :> helps that everyone (including me) is a baby :>

Hes only useless in bad killers hands.
0 -
I know exactly who you are then. You’re around purple?
0 -
Trapper needs some developer love.... but def. not useless.
There are a few trapper mains consistently getting to rank 1 every season.
0 -
Nope. I only get purple survivors when they're swf.
Who do you think i am? :D im curious
0 -
I get good results with him.
It's all about setting traps in places where there is a high likelihood of it being a survivor chase trail.
Vaults, windows, landing areas...it's very satisfying when it works.
He has good EGC security strength too.

I thought you were this purple rank trapper that I’ve ran into twice this month, who plays like this trapper style I’ve never seen before period within 2yrs of playing this game, or watching streams. He is hands down the king of strategic trap placements. Wrecked the whole damn team twice by unusual trap placements in just the most forehead places. Both times the entire match every time one person was getting out of a trap and hung up another was stepping in one across the way. It was borderline head spinning. None of his traps were at windows, none were at jungle gyms, none were at pallet entrance/exit just very well placed.

I dont wanna go against someone like me playing trapper. It is really frustrating. The thing is i dont place traps on points where i could chase them, i place them where i would run as a survivor which means the dumbest places ever. And then its just snowballing ?
Ouh i use always padded claws, bc i feel bad for all those trapped survivors
0 -
Maybe you didn't choose the right perks or add-ons? Also, trap placement plays a huge role in whether you succeed or not. I'm sure you already know this though.

You farmer jk jk

When im having a bad day i go in with padded claws+honing stone and third seal ??♀️
