What happened to the Clown's status?

The Clown used to considered a high/mid-tier killer, mid-tier at worst. I don't think they have changed him since then. Now he is ranked one of the worst killers.

I guess that's because when he was released everyone thought: OMG HE CAN SLOW DOWN SURVIVORS THIS IS THE ULTIMATE KILLER WHO CAN COUNTER LOOPING GG EZZZZZ

But then people learned how to play against him (just camp pallets).

Clown is not even that bad. The people who misuse his bottles say this kind of stuff all the time. Clown can't be a "strategic killer" if players just waste every bottle at once with poor aiming even before the survivor runs them to a loop.

I enjoy playing the clown and i cant say that hes really as bad as some people say he is. I think people just people assume hes meant to be played like the plague or a huntress because his power is ranged.

Hes a zone/area denial killer. When chasing in an open area. Either throw his bottle ahead of where the survivor is going or to where you dont want them to go. You gain alot more distance this way.

At loops throw the bottle not on the pallet but to the side the survivor is going to run to once a pallet has been dropped or before. That way they risk getting hit by going through the gas or trying to walke around the gas while staying at the loop and also risking a hit.

My clown matches have been alot better when i realized that throwing the bottles at the survivor was more often than not. A bad play on my part.

People realized they can just drop the pallet early against him. That's all you have to do. Unless he has a Flask Of Bleach, very few pallets are unsafe that weren't already unsafe. He's bottom tier because his upside against the best survivors is 1 or 2 kills. He has the worst kill rate on all platforms for a reason. Plus, you eventually run out of bottles, and the base reload time is a killer considering what the bottles actually do.

    I’ve said he isn’t mid-tier for awhile

Because people realised how buggy and garbage his bottles are.

Well, people love to overrate killers who have any sort of potential to end a chase faster.

"wOW HE HAS A SLOW, MUST BE A KILLER WHO ENDS CHASES INSTANTLY, OP."

And then people realized Clown suffers from a ton of flaws:

    • Literally no map pressure in his kit.
    • Doesn't end chases nearly as fast as desired.
    • Can't even counter some of the strongest loops in this game, as someone who is meant to counter looping.
    • Still has to deal with pallets unlike Huntress who can throw over them or hit people right after the animation.
    • Reload time takes forever without add-ons and you're forced to not reload in many situations because you lose too much pressure, turning you into an M1 killer with no power.
    • Exhaustion perks still just laugh at Clown and his power.

See I don't even understand why we have Clown when there's Huntress, who's basically a strictly better version of him because she suffers from bad map pressure as well yet she actually does her job of ending chases extremely well and it's why she's one of the best killers in the game.

Look at Freddy even, his snares are Clown's power except there's no penalty to using them, and on top of that he can teleport to generators, giving him some of the best map pressure in the game.

At this point Clown is just a failure in design to me. His power is nothing special and there's nothing to show for it either, it just slows people, that's it, nothing fun or really powerful.

I think for a rework his bottles are fine, they just need to do way more. Maybe make them flammable? Burn pallets down or windows. Or set people on fire? Literally blind people even where they can't see anything? Hell you could give him multiple bottles full of different stuff and you can just toss whichever one you feel like and get a different result for each one, that would be really fun.

He is considered the worst Killer of all by certain people. However, he is extremely underrated. That said, he isnt that good anymore for a couple of reasons which surged overtime:

    - More maps with more pallets. See Temple of Purgation, new Badham, Hawkins. Which means his power to cut down loops is less effective.

    - He hasnt been touched in a while. Not even for bug fixes which appeared over the updates. Just cosmetic-tier fixes for the most part.

    - Medium vault speed changes.

    - Balance problems which have been unaddressed for a while. Mainly the deal with reloading bottles.
