Almost every change since year 3/a little before has upset the community
I know this is a bold statement, but take a look.
Legion- gross, you guys literally killed a bad killer rather than just yknow nerf 1 add on and fix an exploit. He became garbage. His power hurts more than helps.
MoM- rather than make it viable in another way, you made it terrible.
Nerfed Nurse- nobody understands why her base kit got nerfed except surv only players for the most part.
Just do much stuff that is bad and upsetting, we need changes faster. An update with no new content, just fixes. Something.

Some seriously depressing development choices 💔

mettle of man is just depressing now the nerf at first actually sounded completely fine because there was 2 ways to get it
4 -
The community would be upset either way to be fair.
3 -
Yeah, but I mean the majority it seems.

Game started going downhill when they released clown. I'm actually quite surprised at how much worse the game gets every patch and what they end up breaking and what they don't revert despite backlash from the majority of the community. Definitely the worst state this game has ever been in.
6 -
So many people rallied for them to take a different look at Nurse. What did they do?
Nerf her even more after the ptb (CD add ons)
6 -
They tend to take things too far. "Slight" for them is "Large / huge"

I wouldnt mind if the devs dont release a new chapter and therefore fix a majority of the bugs and get their eyes more on map, killer, surv balance.
2 -
Let’s be honest, some people would throw a fit at “1000 free auric cells for all” simply because people they don’t like would get some. Or they’d want more. Or whatever. People will choose to be upset at anything.
But back on topic, yes. Not discounting anything that’s been said on this thread so far. The changes mentioned, among others, have indeed been upsetting.

Whenever I see statement : 'Old Legion was weak and ... ' , I know for a fact that person either trolling or just bad at being killer .

The only people who thought old legion was good used mixtape and moonwalked

I didn't have too much of a problem without addons

The real truth is no matter what the balance change there will be people upset about it because they were accustomed to it.
Said upset people are more likely to head to the boards and complain.
I'm pretty happy with many of the changes such as the changes to DS, insta-heal, Freddy rework, and endgame event.
Heck, I think the dedicated servers are a step in the right direction since it gives a better overall experience for survivors. No more worrying about a killer that destroyed the whole team because they were lagging either intentionally or unintentionally.

Legion never should have been released in its initial iteration. I'm just not sure how it made it that far into development with the way its power worked.
MoM- Similar to Legion, never should have been released. A quick 30 second thought exercise with people who actually play the game would have led them to realize everyone on a team being able to tank a hit is a terrible idea.
Nurse- I'm still struggling to make sense of their stated logic behind the changes. The players these changes are meant to help aren't the ones taking advantage of them because they don't know what to do in the first place. It also massively, and I mean massively nerfed her ability to perform basic killer functions such as "find healthy survivors" and "move". My evidence is purely anecdotal, but I'm still ending chases against most purple and lower survivors in about 10 seconds, or one blink cycle after initial hit. The red ranks, however, hoo boy. What the changes did was give additional counterplay opportunities to survivors who already knew the original counterplay, and now you have juking monsters at red ranks, and little to no change everywhere else across ranks. I can't imagine that was the intent.
What I'm getting at is this: I'm not sure what the thought process is, but the conclusions have been baffling. Many of these decisions just sound silly when you say them out loud. "Legion is a killer that can repeatedly sprint at and hit survivors until they go down. The survivor has to stop and mend every time they get hit with Frenzy." "MoM will allow a survivor to ignore a basic attack. Every survivor in the trial can run this perk." "We're going to force the 96% ms killer to walk after survivors after using her power, but we're not going to revise our initial blink range math to compensate."

Nah, they came for instas m8. Also Freddy got a very good rework. They were afraid of things like "Legion" and "MoM", so they nerfed em into the ground to keep the people calm.
Simple fix for MoM btw. Two protection hits. No simple fix for legion tho.

I do kind of agree on Legion, but at the same time I don't see a way to fix this killer without completely changing them. They had to do what they had to do because of the inherent design of Deep Wounds being flawed.
As it stand I think Legion could use some QOL changes. Increase vault speed during Frenzy. Add some base effect if you double tap with Frenzy. Change button add-ons to work on the initial hit instead of a double tap. Missed Frenzy attacks drain the power bar instead of outright canceling the power (you should get something like 3 misses if you swing right when you activate Frenzy).

Let's be honest, MoM legitimately needed it. Free Endurance for getting hit is not balanced whatsoever. The people who got mad at it changing were those who jist wanted easy wins.
Everything else, yeah the community was split.
1 -
Then that's you, but they weren't a good killer. Low mid tier. They were trash without moonwalk/tape.
Hitting someone over and over to Frenzy down was so easy to genrush.

Yeah. Compare Nurse (a balanced but strong killer, who needed add on changes.) To insta heals (Syringe extremely broken and deserving of what it got) styptic was never an issue for me. It could've been the way it is now and syringe get a different kind of nerf.
The two simply don't make sense to compare to each other.
Edit- also yes, people are crying about Freddy. A lot of people are starting to really think he got overbuffed. Not including me.

This is why the devs are hesitant to make big changes. They have to walk on eggshells with the dbd community. Buff killers/survivors, nerf killers/survivors, add new mechanics, killers, perks and you can guarantee someone will be complaining on the forums/twitter/YouTube and so on.
1 -
Sometimes you didn't need to hit 4 times , people exaggerate about 1000000 stabs in order to down
0 -
You usually did, unless you exploited. Otherwise, a 110 chase.
0 -
Completely disagree. Legion and MoM was a mistake (which they fixed "relatively" fast for dbd standards), but year 3/clown-update was a turning point in this game. They finally did real killerbuffs. Bigger, meaningful changes to improve killers QoL.
Gotta cut the devs some slack. They did really bad in the first 1-2 years, but now they care about balance and do the right things. You forgot infinites, 2 years of DS, instaflashlights for 1 year, bugged scratchmarks for 2 years, killer audio not working for half a year and so on.
Then they removed palletvacuum, nerfed vaults, game slowdown perks, nerfed second chances. Buffed freddy and spirit. I think they're actually doing a pretty good job so far.

This is just showing the changes one dislikes. What about all the good changes which were done?
Freddy rework
End game collapse
Insta heal change
DS change
This is naming but a few.
Basically people who complain always shout loudest about the things they personally dislike and very rarely speak up about the good changes. It's true in all aspects of life. Doing 1000 good things will always be overshadowed by one they deem as bad as that's all some people will remember.

Hard to really make that assertion when it comes to game forums. Wouldn't be surprised if only 20% of the player base even has a forum account. Vocal minority is always going to be huge on forums because a few people raging over something can make it seem like a bigger problem than it is.(seen it a ton of times in WoW)
I've heard this before in the format of "survivors keep complaining about something that doesn't need to be fixed but the devs will listen cause of the crying". Just saying forums activity doesn't make a good metric.
*forgot to add I've been playing since june of 2016 and I have 49 posts. I play this game alot so forum activity can't be inductive of the majorities wishes.

The problem is that you can't do both at the same time. If there is urgency, the killer can take advantage of it. If there's not, we basically have current Legion. It can't be both, at least not when it comes to DW.
It's a tricky problem I think the devs did the best they could in the time they could. But they said Legion is getting looked at in the future so hopefully they come up with a better solution.

is this a literal joke...? do you play survivor? the server latency is THROUGH THE ROOF. youre hit through every pallet, when the killers even looking the wrong way and so on. huntress is a whole new mess with bugs and hits. vaults are worthless, dead hard doesnt work, the QOL for a survivor right now is at its lowest
0 -
Seems like they always overkill on nerfs from the ptb
0 -
i mean legion sucked before he was reworked they just made him suck in other areas that happened to be more important. as for MOM im glade that perk is dead since it ruined so many games in the short time it was out.

My survivor latency has been fine.
It's been far more consistent than previously when it all revolved around how the killers ping was relative to me.

This is why despite all of the bad changes being made the game is still improving.
From what I've seen BHVR is better at buffing things than nerfing it.
In that most nerfs/sidegrades end up harming the game or at least trashing the thing nerfed:
- Legion (not that much worse in terms of balance but far less fun)
- Nurse
- MoM
- Old Freddy
- Shred (compared to pre-PTB)
- ect
DS and Instant heals are good counter examples.
However the buffs they make tend to be healthy and fun (not to be confused with brand new additions)
- Dark Sense
- Undetectable
- New Freddy
- Base Killer action speed changes
- Detectives Hunch
- EGC
- ect

My personal solution is to embrace the lethality potential as is thus avoiding the balancing act entirely.
If your power is expected to down then it won't be a problem when it does.
