the killer main crying about how the Survivor life is painful

In My Opinion there are 5 main problems why I cannot play survivors. Lets begin.

1) So many campers and tunnelers, which is the reason why Survivors are so dependent on meta perks, especially on these 2:

If you don't use Borrowed Time - your teammate most likely will die from a camper

If you don't use Decisive Strike - you'll die from a tunneler and will not give your team more time to do gens

REALLY, I WANT TRY DIFFERENT BUILDS, I AM SURE A LOT OF SURVIVORS WANT TOO, BUT I AND THEY NEARLY EACH TIME DOING IT GET PUNISHED. IT FEELS LIKE KILLERS PURPOSEFULLY MOTIVATE PLAYERS RUN THESE 2 META.

Somebody will tell that tunneling is a legit strategy, but devs confirmed that it is unhealthy gameplay to tunnel when they reworked Dying Light.

2) Disgusting ranking system.

Ranks are not about skill, but about time you spend in the game. You can play with purple rank Survivor and he will play barely better than Default Dwights. And for some reason newbies of brown ranks sometimes must deal with red/purple rank Killers. No needed to say how it is horrible.

3) So stressful without friends.

The game is more than 3 years and there are still almost no tools decreasing the gap between solo's and swf's.

Why people yet cannot see other Survivors' inventory? Why people are not able to know which dud is getting chased and when it is the best time to save someone from the hook? Why the obsession mechainic still be ...the one tool at least somehow decreasing the gap? It is annoying that solo cannot have as much info that they will not be frustrated bcs of the gap..

4) Survivors are boring

Dbd have yet 17 killers and... 19 different models of 1 Survivor. No needed to say which side gameplay is much more various. the majority of killer represent their own way how to catch Survivors and apply pressure. What you need to do as Survivor: repair, be chased, save, heal, thats all. Totems are rng based, sabotaging is meh. I agree chases can be very fun, but imo there should be much more various actions and especially more secondary objectives.

5) RNG is so stupid sometimes.

One hundred millions hex Skill Checks at 5 seconds, "empty" map which may have only 8 pallets! (the opposite problem with Killers but its not so painful), Ruin stands for the whole game in Hawkins/Lery/Gideon (thanks for Detectives Hunch!), etc..

Sorry for my emotionality.

  • What can I say ? This game is not noobfriendly especially when talking about solo survivor . The only thing I can suggest to you is to struggle through , with more experience you become more numb to these problems (or ignore some of them entirely) I'm not saying that they shouldn't be addressed rather that you need to brave them .

My favourite survivor perk build at the moment is: "Borrowed Time", "Decisive Strike", "Balanced Landing" and "Spine Chill".

I played only survivor for the first 100 hours of the game, then killer for the next 200 hours of the game. Now i'm playing both sides and know the problems of each one.

I thought this was a joke at first but you're serious.

I do wish Survivors had more to do than just Gens and get chased or save friends. We've been asking for 2nd Objectives for a while and they gave that to us in the form of The Archives.......yay, exactly what everyone asked for...

I literally only play solo survivor, it's quite easy and relaxing at the moment.

What rank are you playing at? That could be the issue.

I'm surviving at least 8/10 games and that's including games with mori's/iri hatchets etc at rank 1

There are other ways to deal with campers/tunnelers besides BT and DS. Those are the most effective and easy to use but here's some other options.

    Anti-Camp:

Kindred - Warns other survivors that the killer is close and to just rush gens.

Deliverance - Other survivors can ignore the save and rush gens while you yeet off the hook and make the killer waste time chasing you again.

Camaraderie - Hook stages take longer which means more wasted time on the killer's end.

Slippery Meat + Up The Ante - Deliverance light. Not guaranteed but does not require a safe rescue first.

Spine Chill/Resilience/No One Left Behind/Leader - You perform the unhook action faster.

Swarm - This is when you rescue as a group and all "swarm" the hook such that the killer can't grab/hit the guy making the save. Alternatively, one of you can take a hit allowing another to make the save during the blood wipe animation.

    Anti-Tunnel:

Styptic Agent - Give yourself or the guy you just saved BT without needing BT.

Breakdown - Makes it harder to tunnel because they have to bring you to a new hook. Also gives you aura read on the killer.

We'll Make It/Botany Knowledge/green or purple medkit - Heal the guy you just saved way faster. If you do it right then the killer has to plow through 2 health states to tunnel not just one. Most killers go for the weakest target so this may discourage them from tunneling.

Mettle Of Man - You get an extra health state. Difficult to get to proc though, but devs said changes to protection hits are coming so it should become more useful when those changes hit.

Poised/Lightweight/Q&Q/Iron Will - Stealth perks can make it harder to track you which means you have a greater chance to escape a chase where you are being tunneled.

Scramble - If you save someone and expect the killer to tunnel then take a hit. More often than not this gives the guy enough time to get away and they killer will break chase on you to look for them. You can also swarm the hook area and make a lot of scratch marks so that it's harder to follow the guy that just got saved.

Adrenaline - Insta-heal when being saved after gates power. Same as Styptic.

Flashlights - If the killer tunnels you can make a flashlight save. In fact just showing you have a flashlight near the guy he is tunneling will force the killer to deal with you before making the pick up, which gives the tunneled guy a chance to get revived from dying.

I feel the same way. I'm a rank 4 solo survivor and I can play multiple matches in a row without feeling any pressure or frustration. The only meta perks I always run are dead hard and ds to counter tunneling, I also always run We'll make it (that perk is very good and underrated). I save the forth slot to use different perks and try different things; perks like bond, better together, urban evasión, balanced landing, borrowed time or any other perk that I might find useful, but I never ever run adrenaline. I hate that one.

Most of the time I pip or safety pip. I find killer gameplay at red ranks to be much more demanding and frustrating, sometimes two matches in a row are enough for me when I play against sweaty red ranks trying to genrush.

As a solo, I use meta perks the majority of the time. When I don't run them, I get severely punished for it.

For instance: in the rare occasions that no one uses DS and the killer doesn't have any obsession perks so NO ONE is an obsession, guess what happens? A survivor is hooked and then tunneled off the hook the majority of the time because the killer knows he can't get punished for it. I get why they do it, I mean why wouldn't they go for the unhooked survivor knowing they are not going to get punished by DS?

    SleepyWillo Member Posts: 2,197

The best part is when you see killers call survivors sweaty or tryhards for using BT/DS. They are literally anti-tunnel/camp perks now. If you dont tunnel off the hook then they wont effect you!

Well, if you want to play a different objective, why don't you just go play Deathgarden?

  • HatCreature
    HatCreature Member Posts: 3,298

I'm not really a shooter guy tbh, I'm more melee. Deathgarden looks fun though and the designs for everything is beautiful. If only DBD could borrow some of those amazing design choices its cousin has.

Well, if aiming isn't your cup of tea, you can always just play Scavenger. Usually, the only things you have to aim at are stationary targets like Drones, or your own feet to activate your character's power.

No one is forcing you to pick BT or DS.

Especially DS is just a crutch that helps bad players.

If you're a real survivor player you wouldnt get boosted to rank 1 using meta perks.

    Survivor's perk variety is huge.

And tunneling isnt a problem if you're good at looping the killer.

  • Monlyth
    Monlyth Member Posts: 982

My thoughts exactly, honestly. If you're getting tunneled, it's usually because you're an easy target. Either put some time into learning how to loop, or learn how to stealth so you don't have to loop.

  • Aztreonam78
    Aztreonam78 Member Posts: 1,131

But what if you are getting tunneled by Spirit, Hag, Billy, Freddy? You cannot loop them for a long time, especially the Spirit. What people have to do vs people chose the tunneling strategy as these killers? I pretty often encounter players like these.

Archives are very good, more blood points, skins, charms, challenges at which you can adapt your build or creat a new one!

Maybe at rank 1 there isn't. But I can assure there are plenty in the purple ranks. Solo survivor is fun if your team is competent. If not it's typically a ######### show.

I will agree that you don't have to run bt and Ds.

and yet there are still people who claim survivor is chill and easy compared to killer. Yeah 4 man coordinated swf is a lot stronger, but solo survivor experience is just awful. You have to deal with campers, tunnelers and dumb teammates, which is super frustrating. I’m rank 1 on both sides and imo it’s much more relaxing playing killer than solo survivor.

You're not on console is the problem, you really dont know what it's like at red ranks on PS4 or Xbox because you've never done it , I've been on both PC and PS4 I'll go out and say that most PC randoms aren't too bad at red ranks but holy ######### on console there are so many boosted players who don't even look behind them when they run or killers who still fall for the 2016 window juke, not saving teammates and just hiding in a remote part of the map where a gen is already done, it really makes you wonder how these people are so bad but it's console so there are a bigger variety of players on the game, not everyone has a gaming PC or can afford one

  • White_Owl
    White_Owl Member Posts: 3,786

Not to be that guy, but currently BT and DS are getting used a lot against killers who don't camp nor tunnel.

I disagree with pretty much everything, except a bit about the ranking system. At red ranks I don't feel like I'm playing with good survivors at all.

I used to get so mad when i got killed as survivor. Then i stopped caring about surviving. Only perks i run allcthe time are spine chill and Sprint burst. Other 2 slots are whatever i feel like it. Never run adrenaline cause i never expect to make endgame and when i do its cause I've been safely and stealthily doing objectives all game and stayed healthy. DS i always miss the skill check. I usually top out at rank 8 but I don't play all the time

  • HatCreature
    HatCreature Member Posts: 3,298

I like the Archives but they are by no means a secondary objective, not one bit at all and they do not contribute to actual gameplay. You still do Gens and you still get gen rushed, someone needing to loot 5 chests does not change that.

I do love the charms though :) I'm really excited to see what else they come up with as it'll be fun to really personalize them.

I agreed with DS. The perk is not just an anti tunnel, it can punish killers for doing their job too well. Though, it’s still the best tool to fight campers.

I am glad you understand the struggles of Survivors as well.

So many biased Killer mains on here that think it's a cakewalk. Compared to Killer it might be a bit more relaxing but far from easy unless you're a coordinated swf (which is like the only way to have a decent match as survivor but even that is being complained about, how dare we play with our friends, right killers?).

I also have to agree that playing without BT and DS is almost impossible.

I've seen so many stupid suggestions on this Forum regarding Survivors but i'm not gonna mention names obviously.

To everyone. Play the other role as well and you will see how it will change your view on things.

    1) "campers and tunnelers"

Camping has a big counter and that's to gen rush. If the killer camps punish it. By gen rushing the killer will depip and only get a single kill if you guys are any good. This will discourage the killer from camping more. Tunneling can be tunneled aswell. BT and DS are one of the most run perks on survivors. Also the same strategy can be used on tunneling killers. The killer only realy targets a single person which leaves the 3 of you free to gen rush and get out

    2) agreed.

    3) "stressful without friends"

Nope. The only thing that is really a hindering factor are bad teammates. Other than that you still have all your second chance perks, large god loops, fast gen times, and pallets. Even without perks the game is still survivor sided. Just don't get caught. If you got caught even though you had multiple loops to aid you, then you just got outplayed.

    4) "survivors are boring" killer can also be boring. I can agree on 2nd objectives though. But the reason why survivors have no abilities is because devs didn't want a low and top tier between survivor abilities. They dont want to discourage anyone from playing anybody they want.

    5) "rng is stupid" yes but i feel rng on killers have it worse. They can have ruin just to get it destroyed within seconds. They can spawn on blood lodge with 25 pallets. They can completely have their games ruined by one auto aim which can't be turned off. They can have all of these combined. And that's not even including all the tools survivors have against them.

Noob friendly? I played from rank 20 to 15 on a new account. Most of the time we were vs some spirit with tier 3 ruin, proxy camping and tunneling every single one of those default claudettes/dwights. I really hope that all those people refunded because yeah it is noob friendly but in a way that lets noobs to derank in order to farm new/terrible players.

You're in low ranks with dumb killers, just do gens and leave and you won't have campers and tunnlers every game because that's just going to get you gen rushed. It still happens in higher ranks but only when the killer is feeling salty. You also don't need meta perks because you got 3 teammates who aren't potatoes...sometimes. Like you said rank is stupid

The only real thing i whole heartily agree with is its boring, a lot easier to win but boring. I think that's why there's so many try hards, if your idea of fun is just "winning" get good, get meta, and get SWF and congrats. Ez

BTW im only in green ranks as survivor but I don't use any meta perk builds, i mostly use the 3 teachables and spine chill and do just fine. It also adds to the variety because every character becomes unique instead of just a skin.

I mean honestly i wish the game was like that by default, no teachables and only 1 of each survivor can be in the game at once. I doubt it ever happen but if it did they could buff the perks to be a lot stronger since they cant combo and could also be predictable by the killer

    Aztreonam78 Member Posts: 1,131

Its a bit difficult to do gens when your teammates constantly go down. Yes, they are potatoes.

You say gen rush is a counter to camping, and that the killer will only get one kill if they camp, but here's the thing. A person hooked takes 120 seconds to die on hook. A gen takes 80 seconds with Ruin in play(assuming you hit every single skillcheck, and even red rankers don't do that). If you're looking for Ruin you're wasting time against the camper. If you do it during Ruin, you have 3 gens done and if each one is on another gen that's half a gen done each, or(I dunno how much slower it is with 2 on one gen but) 90% of one gen done and another still at 50%. So how is the killer only going to get one kill if they're camping? That's not even including Dying Light or Thanataphobia, which both will slow gens down even more, even if only one person is injured/hooked. You also have to take into account time finding out the killer is camping, and running back to your gen. This also requires the perfect scenario of your teammates not stupidly attempting the save regardless. Meaning you either need teammates who understand, or you're in a SWF.

I mean hell I had one guy make a BUILD around camping with Ruin, Agitation, Iron Grasp, and Monstrous Shrine(Yes...Monstrous Shrine) just to ensure the camped person died faster.

Shouldn't be, that should make it even easier. Im not saying just let everyone die but if you're on a gen i wouldn't get off for an unhook for a survivor that i know is gonna go down again until i know the killer is a good distance away. Im not saying you're going to start consistently winning by just playing but you'll pip until youll have competent teammates. Hell do it enough and you'll have optimal teammates and have 20 wins in a row until your streak is ended by a mori or a frustrated killer face camping. EZ

Genrushing against a camper may get you to escape, but you'll not get many points because you won't have any chase or altruism points.

I dislike it when people say "just do gens" in any scenario that involves a camping killer. Sure, if escaping is all I wanted to do.. but I want to have a fun game and score points while I'm at it, not "just escape".

Borrowed time should be a necessary, needed perk when solo-queuing. Of course there would be some idiot that doesn’t have borrowed time unhooking against a twatty tunnelling spirit face camper. That’s why game chat needs to be implemented.
