I rely on Discordance, help me free up that slot
So for a long while now I’ve been running discordance on nearly every killer. I find that if 2 survivors hop in a gen right away together and you don’t have it that gen is popping super fast.
Id rather learn some tips to find people early and free up that slot. I’ve thought about using whispers instead but if possible I’d like to do it without a perk at all. So how do you find people fast at the start without just getting lucky that they’re in the first gen you go to.

well it depends on the killer, for example i run whispers on pig, if it's not active then i'll stand up, if it's active then i'll crouch, i'm not a huge fan of discordance cuz sometimes it will never activate, and when you go the generator with 2 survivors on it then you'll only chase 1 person and the other one will continue working on it

Well there are a few different perks you could replace that with. However, since you said without using a perk, it's just a matter of learning survivors spawns, reading tracks, hearing, predicting their movements. Kinda hard to label in a concrete way as it's more just intuition from lots and lots of practice. That said, Discordance is a really good perk in general and it's not bad to use.
Preventing yourself from losing a gen or two instantly at the start is gonna come from either Ruin or combining Corrupt Intervention with Discordance. With neither of those combos you are gonna lose gens quite fast unless they are really messing up.

Corrupt Intervention and Discordance is an amazing combo together.

Why? Discordance is a good perk and is not very used so people dont recognize it instantly, everyone uses BBQ and Ruin so survivors tend to counterplay it when someone gets hooked and learn to get great skill checks, even if you dont use them theyll try to stealth BBQ just because everyone else does.
Discordance is not as expected so people can get caught by it a lot of times before they realize you are using it.
I use Surveillance and a lot of times I get "How the heck did you know I was there? oh crap, you have Surveillance" on postgame chat.
As a killer being unpredictable is an important factor in your success, cookie cutter builds get counterplayed fast.

Whilst its a great information gathering perk, i do see why you'd want to get rid of it. Sometimes it never triggers in a match, or when it does its just a sad warning this gens gonna pop soon and you can't do anything to stop it.
So anyways, it depends on what flavour of killer you are. If youre a trap based killer (hag, trapper etc) then you dont have to worry about finding the survivors, thats an afterthought. As a stealth based killer, at the start of the match patrol the edge based generators, as thats likely where survivors spawned or traveled to.
As one of the more traditional "im hunting you" killers (billy, nurse, spirit) you dont have the luxury of stealth so use any mobility powers if applicable and beeline for generators. And on the others more M1 or slow killers (bubba, huntress, plague etc) you sadly just have to hope, or run information perks.
Now more generic tips can be, at the start of a match head towards any totems (if applicable), to potentially catch survivors in your bait. Assuming you're like the vast majority of the playerbase and are using bbq, that in itself can work as your information perks.
Now in my opinion, discordance is great, helps prevent wondering around in the early game, warns you off quick gen rushes, inceased odds in obsession finding and goes great with pgtw, but i find its counterable nature too constricting, so i would reccomend swapping for whispers
It is, also in my opinion, too helpful to have a information gathering perk besides bbq, even if it seems unnecessary, and to me whispers has no equal

Most of the time survivors spawn opposite side of the map near edges, but there is no reliable way to catch them early on beside Whispers or checking gens.

I’m really trying to learn to use whispers efficiently, even now I appreciate how it can tell me when no one is around but I need to learn a bit better how to pinpoint people with it

Let me tell you this: efficient survivor groups will split up in early game since that's how you can apply the most pressure on the killer. Bit early game is the most important time for the killer. So against strong and efficient survivors this ain't helping you much, unless you pair it with the perk that blocks the furthest gens (but even than survivors could just wait out that timer). It works against normal survivors, but against normal survivors you don't even need perks in the first place (as long as you play a mid-high tier killer

Well, to use whispers effectively also depends on the killer you use, its most helpful on stealth killers or typical M1 killers who need that early game find to snowball.
Firstly the most common use is in your generator patrol, simply walk towards a generator, if it lights up and makes noise as you approach theres someone there, otherwise its clear and move onto the next gen.
As stealth killers (and most importantly pig since if its lit, crouch) you hug the edges of maps and if it lights up you know when to start moving stealthily. It also shines with the trapper/hag as you know when theres survivors nearby so as not to place traps.
Another common tip is when you see it light up, it usually means theyre 32 meters away from where you then and there, so to dounle check you can step back a few steps, and if it turns off you know the exact distance.
Last common use of the perk is also in the late game, when theres less survivors and theyre playing more immersed, if its lit up you know you have one cornered somewhere, and even better if its the last person and you have closed the hatch, it gives a much wider range to detect people at doors for you, making it easier to catch them.
The only times whispers wont be useful is mid chase, cuz you know where they are already, or when you're camping a hook (since hooked/downed people still count) whispers also greatly works with "monitor and abuse" as its 32m range is larger than your (usually) 24m terror radius, meaning you know the survivors are there before they know you're coming
In summary, the best and most useful part of whispers is it greatly widening your gen patrol path, instead of having to actually check the gens physically. The other uses of whispers is just gravy (also only ever use it tier 3, tier 1 and 2 covers way too much area for you to get any usable information)

I usually just keep the exact distance I need from gen to gen to hear if it's been worked on at all. You can be pretty far away and hear nearby gens, so you can speed up your gen patrol by doing this. That said I'm not a top tier killer(though I have been getting a lot of stomps on my Myers games recently).

Run "Tinky Winky" (Tinkerer) as it will still alert you to gens nearing completion while also giving you a little bonus of 0 TR. Its a great tools for finding your "Pop goes the weasel" target too. This will also keep you feeling at home with your gen monitoring perk preference.

Isnt discordance also the only perk that is better in the first version then the 3rd because then your getting info every 8 seconds instead of 12. (Basically the cooldowns shorter i mean)

It's not that uncommon for survivors to spawn inside/near your terror radius. It's uncanny how often my Whispers (on occasions when i use it) light up right at the start or within 2 seconds of the game.
Edit:
Check out the closest gen to your spawn point. There is a good chance at least one survivor spawned there

Find Surveillance much more handy over Discordance.

Generally, yes. There are a few other perks where situationally they are better at lower ranks. Whispers rank 1 on pig for example lights up at 40 m so you can crouch before the survivors hear your heartbeat, rather than rank 3 where whispers lights up at the same time they hear you coming.

They should either put a buff on the higher levels or fix it lol.

Discordance is pretty reliable. People love to work together when gens are going slow. Run it with ruin, pop, corrupt, thana, dying light etc. They make people want to work together to circumvent the slowdown. If you're tired of discordance, I'd reccomend whispers. It combos well with ruin and corrupt intervention. Great for most killers; wraith, clown, and bubba don't get much use out of it.

I prefer surveillance over discordance and spies from the Shadows over Whispers. Try out spies if you haven't.

I’ve tried spies not a fan, it also feels more map dependent
