Cross-Platform Discussion in Questionnaire
- The Dead by Daylight team is investigating player interest in cross-platform gameplay (i.e. matches set between PC and console players)
17. I believe that incorporating cross-platform gameplay would be:
18. How important is the possibility of cross progression? (i.e. maintain progress across all platforms)
I've read / heard about this idea getting some negative feedback in the past, for different reasons, but that being said I have to tell you that this is something that I would be very much looking forward to personally! I am happy to see that they are looking at the idea again, and asking players opinions! That's pretty cool.
I sometimes would really like to play DBD on my PS4 with my big screen TV more comfortably than sitting at a desk and for this reason I have considered purchasing DBD multiple times for console, however, the moment I think about having to farm bloodpoints all over again for my characters that I play I IMMEDIATELY disregard the idea completely every single time. I would immediately purchase the game for PS4 however if the progression stayed on both accounts / profiles or shared one account.
Also, another really cool thing would be that my girlfriend and I could play together! I only have the game on PC and she doesn't own a PC so there's no way should could play with me currently, but this would open up an opportunity for her and I to play together if shes on the PS4 for example grouped with me on the PC. We would love that!
Not to mention, Que times are probably going to be significantly faster which is the biggest reason to do this for sure.
I remember when Paladins (and still now after) went Cross-Platform the que times immediately dropped to nearly instant! I mean I never wait for more than like 30 seconds to find a que in Paladins now since that change!
Although I will admit that it has increased the number of "Bots" in my games significantly as well, I see more bots in Paladins than ever before, in fact so much so that I have completely stopped playing casual matches and only play Ranked now.. there this isn't an issue luckily, but its funny because I had never played ranked before this.
I would only play casual matches with friends, so therefore if a similar change did happen in DBD I would recommend the increase in SWF. But besides that I would see all of it as a benefit, and I don't care about (the pointless current ranking system in DBD) to worry so much if that meant some players had a small tiny advantage of others because of controllers vs PC or what not. Especially because it would constantly be mixed anyways I am sure.

Oh wow, no comments? I'm surprised, thought it was a bigger deal huh. They even had questions about it straight from the team.

This is actually really important to me too. I'm in the opposite boat as you, OP. I have the game for PS4 and have almost pulled the trigger on buying the game for Steam a dozen times, but thinking about having to redo everything I've gotten over the last year+ makes me stop cold every time. I would purchase the steam version in a hearbeat if I knew that my progress from the PS4 would carry over.
This is especially important as the next generation of consoles rolls out next year. I worry that the player base on PS4 will dwindle once PS5 is out. Cross platform play would mean people on the old gen console could still play if they have access to the PC playerbase.
My only question is whether all unlocked DLC would carry over as well. On PS4, you start with Nurse, Hag, Doc, and Huntress already unlocked. I've unlocked Spirit, Plague, and Clown with shards, and bought Bubba and Ash with cells. Will all these characters be unlocked if I buy the PC version, or would I be down to just Trapper, Wraith, and Billy? I mean, I would probably rebuy those DLC's as long as all the BP I've spent on those characters carried over once purchased.
In any case, I 100% support cross platform play!

That's an interesting thing you mentioned that I actually haven't thought of, since I've never played on console I forgot that they had certain killers already unlocked to start.
I think it would be fair then either to also unlock those killers on the PC version at start for new players (to create a potentially better new player experience for people just starting DBD) or the reverse maybe still allow players to keep their "Progression" (levels, perks, etc) on those killers/survivors but only locked behind the purchase of that specific DLC for PC also. My thoughts at least, this way it would still be fair either way for both parties!

As a PS4 player, I am really against cross platform from consoles to pc. This would probably make me leave the game. PC is optimized so much better than console. It would just be an unfair advantage, besides the mouse and keyboard control.
6 -
get over it squirrel... this is not a shooter; there are no big disadvantages for console players versus pc players.... trust me a lot of potatoe players on pc. It would be a massive deal if they do this because we get instant queue again like in the past. fast matches with a big player base. i sign for that
4 -
nurses? Different techs? It's completely different across platforms man
0 -
nurse has been murdered on pc recently
0 -
Well what do you think that has done to console nurses then.. she is still way stronger on pc than console. If you think I'm wrong check the data
0 -
My question is with regards to what would happen to players with separate console/PC accounts if they do ever implement cross-progression.
1 -
Except your not going to have one Nurse competing against another, even if there is advantages. I dont understand the mindset of being against cross-platform because of that. A console Nurse isnt going to somehow do worse because PC Nurses exist. A player using killers on console shouldnt be experiencing any difference in play than what they're already experiencing.
3 -
You aren't understanding my point aha, with a mouse a nurse has more control of where she is teleporting, where she can't do that on controllers. So it would be easy for pc killers to kill console survivors because we don't go against as many great nurses or killers because it is harder on console. So if it all of a sudden had pc killers switch to go against console survivors not only will match making be longer but it will be unfair
0 -
Cross progression is a must, imo. It would hands down make me buy the game on many other platforms.
cross play though? Between consoles im really hopeful, but console-pc crossplay would result in some unfair advantages for pc players (since the game is much more optimized on pc.)
5 -
If your suggesting a sudden difficulty spike, that would end up being fixed the very first rank reset. You (hopefully) wouldnt be placed at the same ranking as your use to seeing, thus eliminating the difficulty. This has less to do with survivors using controllers and more to do with being unaccustomed to facing tough opponents. Many very good DBD streamers...use a controller while playing survivor against PC killers
2 -
I don't think matchmaking would take longer, but I do agree that PC players would have the advantage. They have access to better headsets, which would benefit Spirit players. They have better mouse control, benefiting Billy, Nurse, and Survivors, as they will be able to control their camera much better, allowing for better use of the chainsaw, blinking, and 360ing killers, as survivors and killers on console have much worse camera control, making it harder to avoid a killer/hit a survivor.
4 -
Just a thought... Couldnt you also just as easily argue that someone gaming on a PS4 PRO has an unfair advantage against someone of a normal PS4, due to having a more powerful machine running the game? In what way is this different than PC to console, in which... youd be facing against ppl with a more powerful machine playing the game? Or even 2 ppl on PC, one with a budget computer and one with a 6000 dollar one?
3 -
As far as kb/m goes, it only really offers an advantage in the fact that you can better control how fast you turn in a 1st person mode. Survivors being a 3rd person camera... that advantage goes out the window. It would actually be more likely youd have an easier time on a controller, because a keyboard would be the equivalent of using a 4 position D-pad instead of a left thumbstick. You can control a 3rd person camera with ease with a controller, and not be bound to any sort of controller sensitivity that plague controllers with 1st person views. This is why Marth is able to perform just fine on survivor...on controller.
1 -
The only way this will EVER work is if they get their stuff together and optimize the other platforms.
Doing this would make for a miserable experience for anyone not playing on PC despite the faster queue times.
Anyone who thinks there is no advantage playing with 100 FPS compared to 20 FPS is completely delusional.
4 -
Do like some games that have cross play - don't want to play with PC players, Check the box, you no longer play with PC players. Easy!
Personally I would love for the chance to play with my PC brothers/sisters.
4 -
yep this is a good suggestion and mind process. i think it's necessary to have the game go forward because of how stale the game has become we need all the players together to improve the matchmaking times.
2 -
I agree. I'd love to see cross-platform support. I'd also really love to be able to share my account across all platforms as well. Either way, I'm not going to stop playing. I have way too much fun playing DbD.
3 -
No. Im talking about the external hardware like a mouse.
0 -
M/kb users already go against controller users on this game, as well as others. How would it be any different?
1 -
Because console players do not go against m/kb players and the m/kb players have a faster turn speed when console players are capped at a certain speed
0 -
Obvious pc troll
0 -
The problem I see with this is dividing the already smaller console community
1 -
Only the turn speed of KILLERS are affected controllers, and like I said before... Console and PC killers arnt competing against each other here. You'd have a rough time ever telling the difference between a survivor using a keyboard and one using a controller.
2 -
I think it would be good to optimize console to perform at least close to pc level before bringing up the idea of cross play. Even without the mouse and keyboard in mind, pc has way more frames
1 -
I would absolutely love to have crossplay as well as cross-progression...
I play both on PC and on xbox. (when my pc wants to cooperate with DBD's bs "fullscreen" anyway),
I have absolutely no issue playing against pc users on my xbox... I highly doubt it will be all that different.
some people are more skilled and some are less, the hardware won't really make a crappy killer/survivor suddenly better than you.
1 -
This is definitely a good question, but I am sure that there is a healthy way that they could implement a solution. It may be difficult for them to create this said solution however, but if they put the work in there might be many benefits as rewards for us players.
That being said, I do know (as I mentioned in my original post) that there's definitely players that are against the idea because they are very worried about one platform having a clear advantage over the other.
Interestingly enough though, if you actually took the Questionnaire you would realize that it seems like they were MORE worried about PC players being at a disadvantage against Console Players, not the other way around (based on the questions I had to answer), which surprised me because I for sure thought PC players would be the ones at the "slight" advantage.
Overall I think they could make it work, I think it would be healthier for the community, and I think that with a few fixes if they were willing to actually spend the time on doing it right and proper it would end up being 90%+ fair for all platforms without a big discrepancy. But that's just my opinion.
1 -
This 100%
If they are already experiencing those issues now, why would it change when they go up against PC? lol
Unless PC Survivors are like coincidentally insanely better, but I'm not sure, I did remember reading somewhere that Console Survivors have easier/better looping mechanisms than PC actually. Something due to the way the controller works rather than the keyboard/mouse.
0 -
I mean, maybe.
But wouldn't you just get used to it? Adapt to the better Killers? Also, there are not that many "Amazing" PC Killers anyways in ranks where you would have to worry about this.. maybe Red Ranks, but Red Ranks are supposed to be challenging anyways.. If you're playing in the Green Ranks or even Purple it probably won't be the hugest difference I would imagine.
Also, as much as people "enjoy ranking", because technically there is legitimately 0 reward for the current ranking system and it resets once a month, why does it even matter?
Again, this is my personal feeling on the matter, but I would MUCH rather have a larger player base to play with, faster match making, more balanced (accurate ranking) matches due to larger player base, and the ability to play with more of my friends and own a copy of the game on both PC and PS4 for myself... than worry about another player having a slight advantage over me in a game where the ranking system doesn't even offer any rewards so I only play for fun.

If this happens will that mean console getting start and end game chat? Would be weird pc players talking to themselves.
1 -
There are times when the frame rate sinks harder than the ######### Titanic on console, I have no desire to deal with that garbage against a PC player who could run the game on the highest settings while running 36 different programs in the background
1 -
I would 100% agree with this statement if I knew that those numbers were accurate, and perhaps they are. In which case before something like this gets implemented it definitely needs to be worked on first!
I don't know what FPS my DBD plays at on my PC but it works just fine without issues.
20 FPS on Console seems a bit exaggerated on the lower end, but I could be wrong. Personally I think an optimal FPS where I can typically play a game is around 30 minimum, if DBD runs lower than 30 fps on Console then I certainly agree it needs to be looked at and improved, because I would not even want to ever play DBD on console at 20 fps. However, if it is able to run at a steady 30fps then I barely see a problem.
The difference between 20 and 30fps is maybe bigger than the difference between 30 and 100 fps lol , if we are talking 40 to 100 then the difference between 20 and 30 is definitely bigger!

Oh #########, that's a great idea!!! Make it Optional.. Cheers!
0 -
As far as movement goes, it would be similar to using your D pad instead of your left thumbstick. That's why for survivors, kb/m vs controller is a total non-issue.
0 -
For all the pc players who think the FPS is no big deal, would you be willing have an option to drop your frames to 20 to join the console community? Probably not
0 -
If they dont fix the crap FPS rate on ps4 dont bother cross playing because PC is already easier to play than PS4 or Xbox. The games frames chug constantly and you have less control of your camera on ps4. If I run through the cornfield as killer on ps4 my fps literally drops to negative 60.
Fix that then you can consider cross platform. Even if it's an option to turn it on or not. It would probably be less used. Or you can let us transfer our accounts to steam. Then I'd say it's good
1 -
I agree with this, and just wholeheartedly state that FPS should never be below 30 in a finished game that is out of beta in my opinion. If these claims are accurately true then that would mean there are a lot of framerate issues that need to be acknowledged first before Cross-platform can happen unfortunately, but hopefully it would all be a step in the right direction!
