For Survivors...

If you pip without escaping... do you feel like you got a participation award?

In that situation, how do you feel about the Emblem system and their 2k/2e balance focus on "fun"

To me it's more about if I feel I played well. I don't particularly care if I escape if I played a good game. The same goes for killer. I don't really care how many kills I get as long as I played decently.

The pip means i did well in the match so i dont mind. When i play survivor i aim for everyone to survive and if 2+ die i feel like its a loss. Which is weird because as a killer if i dont get a 4k i feel like thats a loss.

Emblems don't affect how much i enjoyed a match, so...

    1. Depends on how the trial went.
    2. I feel nothing. 😐️

When I play survivor it depends on how I play. There are some games where I complete two gens by myself and run the killer for two or three minutes, but I end up getting no altruism. In red ranks that's not a pip if you get hooked even once. Black pips in red ranks is frustrating for me as survivor, because I feel like if I had left my gen or didn't break that hex totem I found or didn't take aggro for a survivor I knew was on death hook, I wouldn't have escaped, but the emblem system screws me over for it. I would rather escape than pip, because pips come with winning over time.

    Not in the slightest.

Someone could escape by doing nothing in this game.

I could do gens, a couple of saves, some totems and lose the killer a couple of times and have an engaging match so I dont see why should escaping be the one thing that makes me feel like I participated.

Sometimes after a good match I will go for a risky save and get someone out swapping my life for theirs.

It's about the fun in the game as a whole and not just one aspect of it and why pipping requires you to do many things.

No, even if I die I did something usually. For example if the killer decides to tunnel me the entire game and I die but still managed to pip. Everyone else probably got out because of it. There are 4 of us while the game is about surviving ect the game sucks in terms of wincon as a survivor I think as long as I did something that contributed to the survival of the group as a whole and people got out because of my contributions I would consider that a win for me.

That’s why it’s easier to pip as survivor, you can die and still level up, The killer has to get 3 kills minimum. The ‘balance’ around 2k/2E is heavily in the survivors favour.

I don't care if i pip, as long as i have fun. 😀

I view the match as a whole. If I died but pipped and 2 escaped...I feel it was a good game. If I pipped and killer still got 3 or 4K, it definitely feels like a loss still. If I don’t pip and escape, it still has the feeling of a win anyway, despite the fact I may be left with that feeling I might not have pulled my weight.

So to summarize, a pip alone only feels like a win if at least 2 get out. That’s why I completely agree with the devs in regards to the 2K balance they try to achieve. In the end, it totally does matter how many kills there are in the game.

Not true. Some killers have an easier time getting certain emblems than others and in order to die and still pip, you need to do really well. I wouldn't say it's a participation trophy at all. They do need to make it easier to pip as killer, though. I remember people being confused at the time when they made it harder to pip on both killer and survivor. Killer was fine before.

As a Survivor if I escape and I get a Safety I feel neutral.

The pip means the game says I won but the Escape is the goal so if I die and I Pip I feel like I still won but if I escape and get a safety I'm ok with it because I still finished the goal. Kind of like when I play single player game and I finish it but get no trophies because I didn't do anything special, sure I didn't get any special rewards but I still beat it ;)

As a Killer, my goal is the 4k(that's how many Survivors there are so why not), 3 is good enough, 2 ok, 1 is me trying, and 0 is #########.

I feel that for Killers it should focus on 3k/1e You get rewarded for killing most of the team, killing that 4th is the cherry on top, if you kill 2 then it's acceptable but do better.

Pips and ranking mean nothing to me. And they feel more like a measure of playtime.

And this feeling is not imaginary when my insanly bad girlfriend that can’t Even move her camera while moving (we still have fun tho), consistently pips for just being in the trial. There is absolute no skill involved.

as long as you dont suicide on the hook and don’t die until 2 gens are completed by your team, you are pretty much guaranted to pip.

In other words escaping and to some extent bloodpoints is my only measuring tool.

No because some games you're just not escaping period. If it's a situation where there are two of you left and the killer slugs the other guy, chances are you're not getting out.

I will sometimes YOLO myself at gens or hooks just to get enough emblem points to pip knowing I will die.

    I'd rather pip than escape.

    Imagine caring about rank.

  • Member Posts: 1,310

Eh, depends, if i feel like i did a lot to help my team then im happy with a single pip on death. But if i somehow pip but i feel like i either: didnt loop the killer for ages, or get enough gens done, i will be very surprised about the pip, but ill be like "im mean.. ill take it... dont really deserve it though"

Honestly, my reaction is more often "oh crap, I pipped". To me, the silver lining of not escaping is that I don't get as many emblem points as I would otherwise. I'm quite comfortable in purple ranks. So quite the contrary - rather than being a kind of "consolation prize", when I pip without escaping I consider it more of an unwelcome and undeserved reward.

My personal opinion on the emblem system is that it's far too easy to rank up as survivor. If we consider red ranks, in theory, as the top players who know the game inside out and excel at all aspects of gameplay, I consider myself more purple in terms of my skill level. So I think the survivor ranking system is flawed not in its structure per se, but in how accurately it reflects skill level.

I've never cared about rank since the first time I got to rank 1 and red ranks for both sides are just not fun

    Killers like:

    Myers

    Plague

    Billy

    Bubba

    GF

Theyre all punished for using their abilities by getting weaker emblems due to the nature of their power. Survivors have no such problem, they just have to play reasonably well and get rewarded 9 times out of 10.

Not very fair if you ask me.

Survivor's role is not as dynamic as killer in most cases. While you can have different perk builds to make you a different sort of survivor, most will be a generalist, even with certain builds. This isn't the case with killers since they have powers and unique play styles to go along with it. Therefore, it may be harder to put all that on the point system we currently have. It is something that should be addressed, though, if you ask me and I never said it was fair.

  • Member Posts: 382

I know I’m not arguing, the ranking system has way to many holes in it to consider everyone’s abilities.

Each role should have their own ranking system, might make it fairer.

  • Member Posts: 634

I'm honestly so used to dying that it isn't necessarily a win condition for me. Coordination is poor on solo cue. I usually go by how fun it is and how well I think I did. If I had decent chases, I consider it a win, even if I lose.

If you pip without escaping it generally means that you played an active part in the match. That, or you simply you know, ran the killer a bit and immediately saved everyone you can. Of course if you have a bad killer, or you know, really effective teammates, then it can make that difficult. A killer that applies a lot of pressure and hooks while playing what you might call "fair" is the easiest way to earn points and a pip. That's why I never cared about playing against Nurse's, because the matches were usually over quick but I always pip'd and earned loads of bp lol\

Reality is, if you pip it doesn't mean you had fun. I don't think a game with the large amount of perks and killers in it should be balanced around fun or a 2/2 ratio. The point I was trying to make was I still had fun against the most OP killer of the time because I ran around, juked a bit, you know I had fun despite the fact that maybe my team got 4k'd. That said, and maybe I'm bias, but I'd take pre-nerf Nurse over current Spirit any day.

The Emblem System works for the survivor role because it rewards you for doing various actions, and it can obviously tell if you was the MVP of the survivor team — regardless if you die or not.

There have been several times where I did so much for my team that I was able to double pip even through I was sacrificed.

Overall, if I did a lot for my team, yes, I feel like I played a huge role as a survivor. 😁🤗

  • Member Posts: 634

I'm not sure. It might be too complex for them if they considered every role/play style. I think it'd be cool if they added scoring events related to using their powers or side effects, though.

  • Member Posts: 382

Ah I meant killer/survivor not each character etc. Something that takes killers abilities into account, while considering the survivors contribution to the match.

If it were easy I guess they would’ve come up with it by now 🤷‍♂️

  • Member Posts: 1,218

In a sense, maybe. I like to do a lot of things and not just stay on gens. I want to go make some risky plays, get some totem bloodpoints, grab some loot.. do as much as I can and I usually rank up from that. I don't know the numbers or rules of the emblem system and I don't check the endscreen to see how I can do better because, it's just not worth it since I get to 1 well before the end of the month anyway. I'm already at rank 4 as survivor and 6 with killer, because of the tome.

2k/2e for fun? That's the way it should be if the game wants to remain popular with the majority of players. Not sure what you mean here.

  • Member Posts: 3,144

I've gotten a 2 pip even though I died, so yeah I feel pretty good about it. Lets me know I did a lot for the team.

  • Member Posts: 3,144

I do when I play survivor. Players in red ranks tend to be a little better than players in lower ranks.

  • Member Posts: 1,310

Dying doesn't really mean you lost. I've done 2+ saves, a gen or two, some totems, and heals and Chase's in a match and died. Sure, I didn't escape but I worked and tried to play really well. And I felt satisfied.

  • Member Posts: 3,347

Nah, you can still play well and be credit to team and die. If I escape and I don't pip I just feel like "wow, I really did nothing that game" though. I don't actively go out of my way to try to earn pips though.

Killer pip requirements in red ranks are really silly and not compatible with the 2/4 average balancing goal though. By that standard a 2k should be a black pip no matter what as that's considered "you're in the rank you belong in, gg", but that's not how emblems work. Funnily enough the old killer ranking system was more in tune with that standard as you needed 2 kills + 1 hook to pip, slightly above the 2k.

  • Member Posts: 7,525

If I'm rank one on either side which I am every season black pipping is the norm.

If you're at rank one pipping signifies you should be ranked up, if this is happening consistantly then you're a god tier player.

If you're black pipping constantly it means you're earning enough to stay at the rank you're at.

Some people don't understand this concept.
