Killer 101: A Guide
Hey guys! Are you a brand new Killer just starting to stab Survivors? Then boy do I have the guide for you. Sit down and I'll tell you EVERYTHING it takes to git gud.
- You see those perk, add-on and offering slots? Make sure your picks are Survivor approved only! That means no moris, no BBQ, no NOED, etc. Actually you know what, don't put anything in any of those slots! It doesn't matter that they were put in the game to be used! Don't do it!
- Are you chasing a Survivor for more than 2 seconds? That's called Tunneling! Please immediately break off and find another Survivor. Actually, just go to a corner of the map and stay there ok?
- Did you spot your first Survivor within the first minute of the game? Pretend you didn't! Don't do anything for the first three minutes. We wouldn't want the first Survivor to DC, right?
- Did you hook your last Survivor instead of giving them hatch? You're supposed to let them go every single time silly!
- Did Survivors t-bag you with every chase? Was a Survivor being toxic with the flashlight the whole match for no reason? Did you hang out at the hook to see them die and got called a camper? Naughty, camping killer! You're supposed to just swallow all that toxicity! Yummy!
- Did you get your ankles broken by a SWAT SWF and told you're garbage in post-chat? Ahahaha, they got you there! It wasn't the fact that they were on voice with sweaty builds, just cruising through the whole thing. Nah, absolutely not!
- Do you play Freddy? Spirit? GhostFace? Oops! We're not supposed to touch them or people will DC! Look at a tier list and make sure you pick the lowest of the low okay?
- Listen, why do you have this game installed anyway? For shame! Click on your settings and wipe it out! There we go, playing Killer like a pro already!
And there we have it folks. One more Killer on their way to becoming a pro...oh, they went to play another game.
Good call.

Even as a joke this was boring and a waste of time to read. Wish people would grow up and either contribute or ask legit things.
6 -
Pretty much like your comment.
The discussion here is legitimate. Balancing the game is all well and good but the community itself is a problem. It needs to be cleaned up.
8 -
The community needs to be cleaned up? Seriously? Toxic people exist. Nothing new to the this community, the internet or the world.
0 -
And you're suggesting...what? Living with that?
I'm sure that will attract and retain new players. Good job buddy, the game will live for years to come.
4 -
Yes, toxic people exist, but there seems to be a greater concentration on these forums. It's such a one-sided argument on anything. You're either on Team Killer or Team Survivor and you simply refuse to accept or even consider anything the other side is saying.
It's really hard to play both here and the OP is right. The community has to take a good look at itself. I even had a thread about it regarding all the killer nerfs people keep complaining for.

What I'm suggesting is learning to deal with toxic players and keeping your peace of mind instead of dreaming of the day all people with less than noble intentions would be wiped from the face of earth. The game and the forum are just miniatures of the world outside.
@PigMainClaudette : I agree that there is little actual discussion going on but unfortunately discussing more about it is not going to make it better. You can't wake up those who pretend to be asleep.

I always found it funny because no matter the argument if your on the opposite side of it your now "x main" why do I need to main anything to disagree with a bad idea.

On a funny note, I play killer and survivor and suck at both. This has helped me not to take seriously so many "discussions" on the forum, it's amazing.
2 -
Only game where the community not only admits their toxic but are proud of the fact lol.
I swear some people only play this game because you can consistently win as survivor. They don't even like horror!
2 -
Just to make sure, are you saying I'm proud to be toxic in my post?
0 -
That's what im getting from your post. "Toxic people exist, deal with it!"
2 -
Congrats on contributing to the problem.

It's a fact though. Complaining about them won't make them go away but come back stronger. I'm just saying because I've recently put a lot of work to finally get out of grey ranks on killer and had to deal with a lot of bullying and general toxicity. It's a bit surprising to come across as toxic when I'm saying that having a thick skin is the best way to deal with it.
1 -
Damn what im getting from this is you're a toxic survivor.....who is likely about to become a toxic killer lol
I was hoping that forcing people to play both sides would make people chill tf out but since after rank reset I'm coming across a lot of bad killers who just camp the first person they hook I think it just made the game worse
Also wasn't talking about toxicity in game neither was OP lol you just kind of volunteered that info

I was hoping this was an actual guide with up to date pointers.
I am disappoint.

I can and do my part. But can other people admit there is a problem and fix it? Hmm...
0 -
Well... I don't get how you still think I'm toxic after that long explanation but you're entitled to your own opinion. I guess if I don't start waving a sign "stop toxicity", I'll be toxic. Not to mention you have no context past me saying that toxic people exist and are not going anywhere.

There are plenty floating around

You said you worked hard to get out of grey ranks as killer meaning you only play survivor. This was justification for why it's ok for the survivors to be toxic, something again nobody was talking about.
Maybe im connecting the wrong dots but it seems suspect lol

Some possible builds put together this month. Or do you have a specific killer in mind?
1 -
The OP was talking about survivors being toxic. Or maybe I'm wrong and you can explain to me the meaning of that first post.
Me playing a survivor is a justification for why it's ok for survivors to be toxic? LOL

Same I said screw it and just started to play for fun. I haven't needed ruin in a bit so all I do is play Pig anymore.
1 -
You didn't reply to the first post you replied to them saying "this community needs to be cleaned up" they actually specifically separated "game" from "community"
Also i didn't say that but im going to assume its force of habit to go into defensive for survivors which might just be a little toxic lol.
Btw most survivor mains are toxic because its so easy to win, but if they weren't it wouldnt actually change the game. Being a toxic killer realllly sucks and does ruin the game. Not saying you are but since rank reset I've been stuck dealing with face camping trappers trying to do the challenges lol. EZ win for 3 people but at this point people aren't trying win they're trying to do challenges

I know it’s satire but it’s coming pretty close to the truth these days.

I'm gonna have to ask here, what exactly do you mean when you use the word toxic here? It's a word with so many meanings that it's hard to discuss here unless I know exactly what your definition of the word is.

What the OP meant by toxic was their board. The ######### the dev posts, the partisan attacking of all of the other side, just generally being a #########
Toxic survivors are the t bagging at the exit gate, the pointing, the taunting right before healing or using an exhaustion perk. This is the majority of the toxic playerbase but none of it actually effects the game. You could still gen rush and use all the meta perks without taunting and it would not actually change the game.
Toxic killers however are the campers, the mori loopers, the sluggers who just watch you bleed out. This all actually effects the game and the enjoyment people get out of it. With toxic survivors its more about them being empowered to do so with no consequences

Thanks for the thorough reply.
I fully agree that the general trend of at times crazy negativity is often incredibly pointless and divisive. It's one thing to be skeptical or even a pessimist, but some people seem like they see problems where there are none. And on the partisan thing I honestly wish the more extreme examples (the ones using "lol ur a <role> main" as essentially their primary arguement ) were considered shitposting or even spam by default 😄
And on the in-game stuff, that's a perfectly understandable stance as well. Some people do seem to think using meta perks, slugging in ANY situation or playing SWF is inherently toxic afterall, which I'd personally just call scrub mentality as personally I'm more of an "anything that isn't explicitly against the rules of the game goes" kinda person. So as long as someone doesn't grief, abuse exploits or harass people post-game it's fair game.

Thanks! I’m currently enjoying Wraith but he is frustrating against swfs who body body block. I’m not a pro gamer and never will be, so I could never master any killer. Who do you recommend would be good for someone like me to play as that will give swfs a pain in the butt?
I don’t need to kill all of them, two will make me happy.

I'm a beginner killer myself (rank 16 currently) and I'm nowhere near knowledgeable about all the killers but the way to find the best killer for you and is to give every killer a chance. No rush.
I started on Wraith too but then got frustrated with his power and moved on but I'm thinking about going back with the experience I've gained meanwhile.
I've had surprisingly good matches on my lvl 1 Freddy. I only take him out for dailies at the moment while I main Hag but Hag is a tough nut to crack. People say Spirit is OP (even though she's getting changed in the next chapter) but I personally don't enjoy playing her. On the other hand, Pig is not generally very strong at the moment but I enjoy being stealthy in a different way from Wraith and landing that dash attack is very satisfying. I hadn't tried Trapper until the Rift came out because everyone was saying how weak he is and how nobody ever gets caught in his traps. After playing Hag first, however, Trapper has been fun.
Aggressive SWF teams will be frustrating. It takes time to learn their tricks and find ways to deal with them. I don't think any killer in my beginner hands would secure a win against them. I know they'll escape unless they make a very stupid mistake so I take the time to hone my skills on them in chases where they're usually happy to show off XD Be calm, be vigilant and you'll eventually start to see the holes in their defense.
Some actual practical advice:
- Keep your chases short with high return on investment. Don't get baited away unless you're working on your chasing skills.
- Don't damage a generator if there's a survivor circling nearby ready to tap it. First make the survivor run away by injuring them. Of course, a down is even better.
- Beware of pallets and flashlights when picking up survivors.
- Think ahead and don't always follow right behind the survivor. Surprise them. Traps in meta placements for example don't work well against experienced survivors.
- I've had some fun on Wraith with Bone Clapper and "The Ghost" - Soot. Find a gen being worked on, uncloak out of sight, profit.
I hope it's helpful. I'm not an expert or pro gamer myself. But it can be immensely satisfying when I finally get the hang of something. I don't know whether you've tried Dark Souls 3 but there's that fight against Pontiff Sulyvahn and it's not considered wildly difficult by the community but when I tried it for the first time, I thought it was impossibly difficult and I would never get past it. Fast forward a couple days, I got the rhythm of it, beat the boss and ended up liking it so much I went to help others with it.
P.S. Sorry for super long post XD
