It’s based on the idea of a ball of snow rolling down a snowy hill. Physics means that ball will pick up snow and get bigger and go from a small ball to something that’s actually dangerous.
In DbD snowballing is when a killer (mostly) is able to take a single survivor mistake and turn that into a massive advantage through smart play, or just utilizing the killer’s potential.
Leatherface insidious camping someone they got in the basement has snowball potential. Person 2 comes for the save and now there’s two people in the basement.
Hag downing someone as a trap goes off nearby is snowball potential since she can now get two people down with relatively little effort.
And so on and so forth.

It means to gather momentum. To be hard to change or turn around.
IE: When you start rolling a snowball down a hill, it picks up more snow, so it becomes bigger, so it rolls faster, so it picks up more snow, becomes bigger, rolls faster, gets more snow..
If if someone, or a team, 'snowballs', I means they gained too much momentum to be easily stopped.

As mentioned above, it's a game term for an aspect being OP or going out of control from a simple mistake or easy achievement.
This doesn't really appear in DBD so most examples are soft-cases where the situation went sour for multiple reasons and not solely caused by 1 action.

It does not have to mean something is OP or due to a mistake.
You can claim Killers 'snowball' because they start weak or equal to 4 Survivors, but as Survivors die, they get stronger and stronger. The game momentum snowballs in the Killer's favor.

Meaning rather than hooking Survivors I found, I decide to down one Survivor and move to the next, the goal is down every body, hence the term 'snowballing', you hit one person, down them, move onto anyone in a close proximity and get the most downs you can.
Everyone is a comedian, you know. Snow.

I know, it can also mean something goes out of control or is caused by easy achievements.
There are many variations of what 'snowballing' means, and there are many ways for an aspect of the game to go from X to above average power, but in this game 'true snowballing' doesn't really happen. Killers can get stronger, but that's it.
