A Fix For Lame Gen-Tapping
I'm basically done kicking generators. I've watched a ton of streamers, and I've seen Survivors basically blow the Generators a kiss and they stop sparking. It's lame as heck.
So here's a fix:
Generators stop actively regressing if they are being worked on, but RESUME regressing if left alone unless a successful skillcheck is made. A failed skillcheck will NOT stop a generator from resuming regressing if the Survivor stops working on it.
This will stop Survivors from literally running circles around a generator and tapping it in less than a second without losing any chase power. This also takes into acocunt Pop and Overcharge; if the Survivors SUCCEEDS; the gen stops Regressing. If they fail; it keeps regressing.

The easy fix is just make like a 1 or 2 second wind up animation before repairs begin

i agree. It can sometimes take like 30s for a skill check to show up. But maybe 3-5s

You know how you fix gen tapping
Don't run ruin.

I also think failing a skill check should have a chance of locking a gen for 30 seconds, just so that it punishes them more.

"Regression continues until survivors have repaired 3.75 charges on that generator."
This means they have to sit on the generator for ~5 seconds as the current regression can be considered a 25% reduced repair speed.
Just not sure if that "buffer" should instantly reset to max if the survivor leaves early or refill back up with the regression rate. (0.25/s)

Someone didn't read the contents of the thread :/

Not too sure how I feel about this one. I don't run around blowing kisses at them. However I do tap them to make the killer look round said gen.
Does not always work but sometimes it does. If I am running to unhook someone and pass a gen that's not running, I will blow it a kiss as you call it so the killer thinks someone has just started work on it an is hiding because of them approaching.
But no I don't blow them all kisses because they have been kicked. If I see them get kicked, that means I was working on it and close by.

Yeah it’d be nice if the survivors had to work for their objective.
Gen tapping to get through ruin needs to be fixed too, very cheap gameplay gimmick.

Startup animations: Must be completed to success, or nothing
Cleanse totem has 16sec of 'startup animation', if you stop during that time, you have to do it all over again.
Unhook has 3sec animation, if you stop during that time, the hooked Survivor isnt unhooked.
Kicking gen has 3sec animation, if you stop the animation, the kicking doesnt happen and you have to do it again.
So, I think after the gen kicking, Survivor must have 3sec animation to have that spark stop (means no more regression), then they can continue to fix gen again.

If camping and tunneling are fair game, so is tapping. Can't have cheap play styles for one but not the other. Get over it.
7 -
Exactly! Its not like camping and tunneling have any perks to help prevent them...oh wait BT and DS. Nothing prevents a survivor from running by even in a chase if they have distance and gen tapping.
Your way of thinking is absolutely silly. Just because there are multiple things that are wrong (or in your words "cheap") and can be improved on doesnt mean that all issues should be ignored till everything is fixed at once. Two wrongs dont make a right :p

It takes longer to do a gen this way, therefore it already punished survivors. So doesn't need your or anyone elses lame fix.
1 -
Nope
0 -
Takes longer to do generators this way. No fix needed.

Overcharge and brutal strength are a counter to gen tapping in chase.

So, on top of ruin, overcharge, dying light, Thana, pop, you also want a no progress window too? You must really suck at catching survivors, therefore you're not representative of a competent killer, so your suggestion is unnecessary to implement.

can you not say next
1 -
Neither of those actually have any effect for gen tapping mid chase. The overcharge skillcheck actually allows you to hit the skillcheck after youve already run away from the gen.
0 -
Not that it's really a issue it takes so long to gen tap a generator. Its quicker to actually just do it and live with missing a few skill checks.
Instead of relying on Ruin to do your job for you maybe you should learn more then just chases.

OP was refering to a tap being able to stop regression, not anything about ruin.
1 -
There really does need to be a longer animation when tapping a gen that locks survivors in for like .5 seconds, it's ridiculous that survivors can still tap the gen while looping killers endlessly and the killer can't even punish them for it.
2 -
Oh my bad. Normally I start reading and it's about Ruin. I do agree that to stop gen regression should be as long as a killer needs to hit it. Them tapping and us being locked in place for a second or so is annoying mid chase.
1 -
I'd argue that's not a good way to balance and design your game though. You're right though, both need adressing. Camping has been a problem in this game since the beginning, and getting camped is the exact opposite of fun. Gen tapping should be adressed nevertheless in my opinion. Just because one thing is bad doesn't mean we have to keep other bad things as well in this game. But camping should also be nerfed to make it even less viable, to discourage people from camping as much as possible.
1 -
Gen tapping isn't a problem. If you want to counter it just use overcharge. Even red rank survivors don't hit overcharge skillchecks consistently.
1 -
The only thing Ive seen that KINDA counters it is surge. They take the time to tap it, only for me to down them shortly after and surge to start the regression back up while applying that 8% bonus.
0 -
Overcharge is surely the best counter as for now, but I like the idea of a 2 sec progress bar before the regression is stopped.
As said before by C3Tooth, it would be consistent with unhooking, kicking, destroying pallets, cleansing...
(PS : gen tapping to counter Ruin is ok imo)
1 -
Id agree with you if it wasnt for the fact that Overcharge's skillcheck is the only skillcheck in the game that wont auto-fail if you start moving. You can hit that bad boy while being like 10 feet away from the gen, lol. Only real downside is if you need to vault a window or something, so you hit spacebar for THAT, lol.
0 -
You're totally right.
Just said Overcharge is the best we have, though it's clearly not a perfect solution.
0 -
Cases like this is where Mindbreaker becomes a troll perk. Tap a gen and now you're exhausted, lol.
1 -
If they're looping around the gen and poking it each time you kick it, kick them in the face.
0 -
Um...you dont know how the overcharge skill check works....you can keep running and hit it. So how does overcharge counter gen tapping? It doesnt. Next!
And how does making the killer stop mid chase to spend to spend 2 seconds smashing a gen with brutal strength which by the way took the survivor like .5 second to gen tap without the need to stop moving counter gen tap? It doesnt. Next!
1 -
Just run overcharge Problem solved!

This.

What about it?

I'm talking about the quick taps to stop regression. The ones Devs claim 'are a risk in chases' when they take 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 of a second to do.

I personally run pgtw
0 -
Exaggeration of something doesn't help the situation.
0 -
Which does nothing because Survivors can hit the skillcheck while running away. It's a bug that has yet to be fixed.
I'm not exaggerating by much. I've seen streamers where Survivors run past a gen and it stops regressing for 'no reason'. If you think about it, it took that Survivor 1 frame of animation to stop the gen from regressing. So 1/60th of a second.
I got that number because the game runs at 60 frames per second, which includes frames of animation.
0 -
I think gen tapping through ruin is about 60 seconds slower. But i think thats compared to not missing any skill checks while powering through ruin. No idea the times if you miss a few skill checks.
It comes down to is it okay to avoid game mechanics like skill checks if it takes about 60 seconds longer.
0 -
It's still an action which hinders them slightly in a chase. Successfully catching them, then kicking the gen afterwards will be the most effective tactic here.

True pair that with huntress lullaby it get better except lullaby a hex :(
0 -
I wish Lullaby and perk like Unnerving presence. The closer Killer is, the noti sound before skill check gets shorter.
Just image Unnerving is a Hex, the skill check zone dropped 50% until the Hex destroyed, it would be so lame.
0 -
It takes zero skill and can completely negate a perk? No ‘next’ here bud.
0 -
A lot of these comments are just extremely unnecessary and are pretty killer biased.
Also it would be nice if every time I visit the General Discussions tab there's a post complaining about a survivor feature. Especially when it's coming from the same person.
0 -
The perk isn't negated. Isn't the whole point of ruin to slow gen progression? Gen tapping progresses the gen slower then normal. The only thing that negates the perk is working through ruin and hitting all great skill checks, which isn't very hard to do anyway.
I'd gladly take someone gen tapping over someone who can hit every great skill check.

Nah you can be happy you can kick a gen boy i wod be happy this will removed again its to easy for killers otherwise
0 -
Overcharge, pop, bbq had to have cd of 60 sek in my opinion
0 -
Cant believe so many people dont understand what tap the thread is about.
Hint: its neither the one to ignore skillchecks or the cop.
0 -
I disagree entirely, I respect someone if they can hit greats all the time and power through ruin over someone who just taps and gets it done anyways.
0 -
honestly if the game is coming down to you 3 gen patrolling with enough people up to gen tap multiple gens then you kinda lost the game and I think it's fair they can do it lol. When i'm playing as killer and it gets to that point it's just kind of oh well you get as many as you can you shouldn't be given an easier advantage to win cause you messed up your early game set up to have a strong late game. gen tapping is also good for tracking when survivors want to stay in an area and is useful information throughout the game. it also baits some survivors into taking hits all to protect a tap for me to down them right next to the gen and destroy it after they hook.
gen tapping isn't really an issue. I see how it's frustrating but you can't expect to have the game hold your hand to a 4k every round.
